What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

I have A.O.Smith B848 Centurion 1.0 HP motor, Can I replace1.5HP B2848 motor instead?
Reply
Hi Vasant, If you currently have a B848 motor then I would suggest staying with the 1 HP B2848 Motor. The reason being is that most likely your filter was sized to be able to handle a 1 HP pump and possibly the 1-1/2 motor will be to powerful for your filter. If you decided you definitely want to go up to the 1-1/2 HP Motor than you would need the B2858 1-1/2 Full Rate Replacement Motor you will also need to change your impeller to a 1-1/2 HP impeller and we would need to know the model of your pump to make the impeller reccomendation.

Depending on the model of Jandy Stealth, yes you can. There are two different versions. To switch down a motor size you would just need to downsize the impeller and the diffuser. Other than that, all the other parts can stay the same.

I have a 5KC39UN6086X Marathon motor that I would like to replace with this model. It is attached to a Jandy PHPM 1.0. I noticed that a shaft seal is recommend when purchasing a new motor; however, I'm not exactly sure which one to purchase. It's a saltwater pool with a Jandy PHPM 1.0 Housing. Thanks.
Reply
Jason,All of your seals pertain to the make and model of your pump end. The correct shaft seal for your Jandy PHPM pump is 5020-086 (old style) or 5020-087 (new style). The best way to tell is by the serial number listed on the pump body (housing). The old style seal is used with serial #s prior to P08FF0001. If you have the above serial # or later, you would use the new style shaft seal.

Hi David, The WFE-6 pump replacement motor will be the A.O. Smith 1.5 HP EE Full Rate Motor (B2842) which has a total hp of 2.21, verses this B854 motor has a total hp of 1.65. The A.O. If the Service Factor (S.F) on your motor label indicates 1.47 or 1.5 then you will need the 1.5 HP Full Rate Challenger Motor if your S.F indicates 1.10 then you will require the Challenger 1.5 HP Up Rate Motor. On the motor is Pinnacle high flow pump Magnatek Centurion switchless motor 16718001 How can I tell what size ?
Reply
Hi Mike, That's a great run on your pump 19 years! This would be the correct replacement motor for your Magnatek Centurion switchless motor 16718001 if you are just looking to replace the motor and not the entire pump. If you want an entire pump then the Pinnacle is no longer being manufactured so you will have some re-plumbing. If you decided to go with entire new pump then I suggest the 1.5 HP PureLine Prime Pump. If you do decide to just replace the motor then you will also need a Pinnacle Tune Up Kit.

Hi, Steve. This B854 motor is the correct replacement for the PHK2RA6F-103L pump. The Shaft Seal (PSR 200), Diffuser Gasket (355030) and Housing O-ring (355619) are the recommended items to replace when replacing the motor.

Some confusion, before placing an order. I have a 1-1/2 hp pump 7-177475-20. Your description on b2854 says it is 1.5hp but never states my part # in the description or on section of pumps that this will replace. Additionally b2848 says that it replaces 7-177475-20,,,but this is described as a 1hp pump.???
Also, my pump currently is making loud noises,I'm assuming bearings, but I do not intend to install this pump until needed. What would be your return period, should I need to return ??

Good afternoon, It is the B2848. It shows up under alternate part #'s. 30 days is the return period. If you let me know what type of pump this is going on. I can recommend a seal kit.

Yes, that would be the correct motor replacement. I will need the Jandy pump model, not the motor, to find the correct shaft seal though. If you do not know please attach a side view picture of your complete pump so I can help you with that.

I have a Jandy System that is 4 years old.
The motor is going to ground and the breaker will not reset. Electrician said motor is bad.
It has a Century Centurion AO Smith pool pump motor, part number O-193986-24. Type CX Frame Y 56 Y
The pump is a Jandy FloPro Series, model FHPM.
What is this the replacement motor? What pump seal kit do I need?
My unit looks square.
Are there any issues(options) with the connection to the pump?

The correct replacement motor would be the A.O. Smith 1 HP, 56Y Frame, Up-Rate Motor (B2853). There is not a seal kit available for this pump currently, but you will need to replace the Shaft Seal (R0479400) OEM whenever you change out the motor. Here is a link to the Jandy Flo Pro Pump FHPM Parts page for your reference in the event you need additional gaskets, o-rings, or parts.

I have a Jandy Pro Series Pump, Model FHPM 1.5 single speed. Is there a way to convert it to 2 speed? This pump is used for Spa Jets and it is too strong. Another idea would be to use a valve to restrict the drain water into the pump. Would this work or would it damage the pump?
Thanks.
Reply
Hi, Albert. You can use the 2-Green B2982T Motor as a replacement. You can use a valve to restrict the water flow to the pump but you'll have to ba careful not starve the pump. The pump will let you know when there is not enough water coming into the pump.

is there a kit or something to repair the motor or just replace it? thanks

Yes, the HP21104T would be the replacement for your current heat pump. As for your WhisperFlo the replacement motor B854 and seal kit is GOKIT32 unless you have a saltwater pool then it's GOKIT32SALT.

Hello. I have two identical motors that need to be replaced -- the existing ones are MagneTek Century Centurion 168345, Frame Y56Y. The pump for each is the PacFab CHII-N1-2A. These pumps are only used rarely, one to run the spa jets and one to run a couple of fountain bubblers in the main pool.
Is this the right replacement motor for my needs, and if so what else do I need to purchase at the same time (shaft seal, etc)?
Given the limited use of these, are there any lower cost options?

Hello Jarrett- No that will not be the correct motor. The model pump you have is Pentair Challenger 2 HP 115/230V Single Speed, UR Pump - 346201 (CHII-N1-2A). The motor that will work for your pump is the A.O. Smith 2 HP, 56Y Frame, Up-Rate Motor - B855. We would also recommend the Tune Up Kit Pentair Challenger Pump - GOKIT5.

I have a pentair challenger 1.0 hp motor/pump system and need to replace the motor. Can I use the AO Smith 1.5 hp as a replacement motor without changing the impeller?
Reply
Hi Vic, You would need to upgrade your impeller to the 1.5 HP impeller if you upgrade your motor to 1.5 HP. The reason being is that if you stayed with your 1 HP impeller then you would be paying the operational cost to run a 1.5 HP motor but only getting the water output of the 1 HP impeller.

One is the main and the other is a feature pump. The main is part number 7-17745-20. FR Y56Y. It's amp draw is 8.0/16.0.
The feature has part number 7-186236-20. FR P56Y. It's amp draw is 5.4/10.8. The replacement motor you sell shows a frame of 56y. Will that work with the Y56Y and the P56Y? Can the replacement be used with my feature pump with the higher amp draw?

Hi, Don. The B2854 motor which is the replacement for the WF-26 pump and the B2846 motor which replaces p/n 7-186236-20 are the correct replacement motors that will replace the P56Y frame motors. You can increase the motor with a higher hp motor which will require also replacing the impeller and other parts. Because of the service factors, they are basically the same motor with a different label. Either one will work. Be sure to replace your shaft seal when you replace the motor.

Yes, this is the correct single speed motor replacement and we advise to replace the seals and gaskets. For this one, it is the GOKIT32 or the GOKIT32SALT for a saltwater pool. If the impeller is clearly worn or damaged then we advise to replace it but most people replace the motor, seals, and gaskets.

Hi Gene, We are sorry but we are unable to track down your exact pump model so we can't suggest the proper replacement shaft seal. The B123 replacement motor has been discontinued but you could go with the B124 2 HP Replacement Motor if you go this route you will need to make sure you have 230V power as your previous motor could be wired 115V/230V and the B124 can only be wired 230V. Another option and the option I would suggest would be to go with a brand new 2 HP PureLine Prime Pump this would require a little replumbing but I believe in the long run would be your best bet.

Hi Andy, The Challenger tune-up kit does not include the square gaskets, however, we are showing that square diffuser gasket and square housing gasket are used on the Medium Head Challenger Pumps and the part # from your photos CHIIN11.5A indicate that you have a High Head /High-Pressure Challenger Pump which does not require any square gaskets. Hi Rando, Could you give us the information off of the motor for your current pump like HP, Amps, Volts, SF, Frame, Model #, etc.. Also could you give us the pump make and model information, common pump names would be Pentair Whisperflo, Pentair Challenger, Jandy Stealth, etc.. To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get any of this information we can make the proper recommendation.

Hi, Gary. You will need to remove the motor spacer in order to get this motor to sit level.

I removed the rear spacer that's on the base that I have but this pump still sits on an angle. This base, even with the spacer removed, has a lower front seat and higher rear seat because the pump that was originally installed had a thicker neck at the front behind the square flange. I know I saw a flat base on a parts diagram when I was looking for the pump but can't seem to find it again.

How long should a pump motet last. I purchased and installed this motor 16 months ago and the last couple of days it has started making very loud noise when it runs
Reply
On the average a pool motor will last approximately 3-7 years, however, other variables may affect that such as shaft seal failure, weather, resistance, insects, or even power surges. A loud noise is most commonly associated with a shaft seal failure. We recommend looking at the face of the motor to see if there is corrosion present which would be indicative of a shaft seal failure.
Reply
I have checked the front and there are no signs of corrosion. When I purchased the motor from inyopools 16 months ago I also purchased and replaced the seal.

Water coming out of bottom of pump where it connects to the housing. Going to replace the pump as it is old. . .see photos - is this the right pump? Also, my housing is a Jandy ProSeries Stealth Model SHPM1.5. What seal/gasket kit do I need? Thanks!
Hi ACTX, Yes this B2854 is the correct replacement motor for the motor in your photo. You will also need a shaft seal when you replace your motor and the Jandy SHPM1.5 has used two different shaft seals and this is determined by the serial # on the side of the pump. If your serial # is before P08FF0001 then you will need this Old Style Jandy Shaft Seal and if your Serial # is after P08FF0001 you will need this New Style Jandy Shaft Seal For example if the serial # starts with an A then that is before P08FF0001 and if your serial # starts with a R than that is after P08FF0001.

Thanks for the quick reply! I am confused as to which serial number I am checking? On the Jandy unit? It's serial number is U13FB2018.

Hello Peter- The impeller screw is going to be reverse threaded. They aren't necessary anymore so once you take it off you won't have to put i on your new motor.

What size capacitor goes with the Century 1.5hp motor?

So there are multiple 1.5 hp Century motors. If you can provide us with the motor model, part or catalog number then we may be able to locate the correct capacitor for you.

So in preparing to replace the seal and or motor, I separated it from the Jandy unit and trying to remove the impeller. There is a single screw (self sealing screw) that is very tight. If i understand some of the youtube videos I get it off by turning the impeller while holding the end of the motor axel with a wrench, not by using a screw driver on it?
Reply
If there is a screw at the very center of the impeller threading it to the shaft of the motor then that must be removed for the impeller to come off. Sometimes they can be stubborn. Please click here to check out a guide we created for this very task called "How To Remove Stubborn Pool Pump Impellers."

Hello. At a minimum I'm going to have to replace my B2854 Century motor. I understand the shaft seal must also be replaced at this time. My pump is a Jandy SHPM 1.0, serial L07FD4109. Also, if I decided to replace the entire pump and motor with a variable speed unit, what would you recommend as a replacement for similar service? Thanks!

Hi Jack, Yes are correct in needing the old-style shaft seal. If you wanted to go with a complete new Variable speed pump then we would suggest this 1.4 HP Waterway Variable Speed Pump You will save a ton on your operational costs by going with a Variable Speed Pump.

One final question. If I just want to replace the B2854 motor, what models, variable speed and non-variable speed would would be more energy efficient than the B2854? Thanks!
Reply
Hi Jack, Here is the link to the Variable Speed Replacement Motor you would need and this would be our suggestion. You will save a ton on your operational costs with a variable speed. Unfortunately, there is not an energy-efficient single speed option.
Reply
OK, Thanks. The variable speed motor you referred me to has a 48Y frame however while mine has a 56Y. Does that matter? Also I saw the B2842 motor which is single speed and claims to be about a third more energy efficient. Would that work as a replacement for my B2854?
Reply
Hi Jack, No worries about using a 48Y frame motor to replace a 56Y frame motor. The 56Y frame motor has a slightly larger barrel size but a rubber spacer is included with the 48Y motor so there is no gap between the motor and motor cradle. The mounting flange is the exact same between the 48Y and 56Y motors. Actually the B2841V1 1 HP Full Rate EE Motor would be the proper Energy Efficient Replacement for your motor. The reason you would need the 1 HP is that this motor has a high service factor giving it the same true HP of 1.65 as the B2854.

OK, Thanks very much. I'm going to go with the variable speed ECM16SQU however. I posted a question concerning what additional parts/kits I would need at the ECM16SQU page. I'd like to order today so If you could take a look at that I'd appreciate it. Thanks again!

Jack, that's great about the variable speed motor I think you will really like it. You will need this Jandy Stealth Shaft Seal when replacing your motor based on your pump info. here Jandy SHPM 1.0, serial L07FD4109.

OK, thanks. So, no other parts? I already have an R0446500 kit and an R0446300 backplate O ring. Just wanted to know if I needed any other kits or seals/gaskets.

I've got an old Pentair pump / AO Smith motor driving my pool fountain that has finally given out. Unfortunately, pump label is largely illegible due to age. Can you tell from photos if this would be the right replacement motor? Thanks!
Hi Robert, This B854 motor is NOT the correct replacement motor for the motor included in your photos. You will require this B2853 1 HP Up Rate Replacement Motor You will need this Challenger Seal Kit when replacing your motor. Thanks for supplying the photos the part # of 7-168452-04 and the label showing 1.25 HP was helpful in tracking down the correct motor.

Hey Patrick - Regarding the tune up kit, is there any way to know before I tear down the pump whether I will need the square housing and diffuser gaskets rather than the round ones included in the kit? Thanks …
Reply
Hi Robert, Can you find a CH model # anywhere on the pump? Maybe it is listed on that label near the bottom of the pump housing where the basket is located? If you can supply the CH model # then we should be able to figure this out for you.
Reply
I found this label on the side of the basket - looks like there might be a CH # visible … Hopefully this helps! RG
Hi Robert, Thanks for the photo! We are showing that the CHII-N1-1A Challenger does not use the square gasket, so you should be fine with the gaskets that are included in the GOKIT5 Challenger Seal Kit

Great! Thank you again for all your help. I have seen the video to do the change as well. My only concern is that, given how I've had the motor (13 years), mounting screws and impeller might be a bit difficult to coax out. Hopefully won't be too much of a problem. Really appreciate your quick response. Thanks again!

Hi. There is not a tune up kit available for your model pump, the seals will have to be purchase separately and they're listed on the Pentair Challenger CHII / CFII Series Parts Diagram page. The Diffuser O-ring - 355030, Housing Gasket - 355329, Pump Shaft Seal - PSR-200 (Standard) or PS-3867 (Heavy Duty).

I have a Zodiac PHPF 1.5 hp pool pump installed in 2012. My Zodiac manual is dated 2010 and shows an A O Smith/Century moter replacement as B858. Is this the correct motor replacement - see photo attached.
I have a 193986-24 so the B2854 seems to be what I have? My starter solenoid is out but the pump works (when I start by hand), what is the solenoid part number that I need?

The B2854 AKA B854 motor requires uses the RUN CAPACITOR, 30 MFD (5VR0303) (2444) http://www.inyopools.com/Products/07501352014035.htm The number 193986-24 is a part number for a motor, if the CAT# on your motor is not B854 or B2854 this may not be your capacitor. I replaced my old Petair motor with this one. I went from a 3/4 HP to a 1.5 HP. This new motor seems to run really hot. I can barely touch the housing once it has been running for about 15 min. Is that normal?
Reply
Yes, pool motors are designed to run at around 140 degrees so it will be very hot to the touch. Also please be sure that the impeller being used is not rated for the motor that you had prior for it may be too heavy for the newer motor and can cause issues with the it.
Reply
Thank you for the quick response. I have a standard Superflo pump housing from Pentair. Can you tell from the photos if this plastic impeller is unique to the 3/4 HP motor and not rated for the 1.5 HP new motor? If not, how would I be able to tell?
Hi Scott, Can you supply us with the pump model # it should be on the white or silver label on the Tan Pump housing which houses the basket. It looks like it is in the upper right of this photo but I can't read those #'s. Simply click the reply link below to upload those photos.

I attached two photos with numbers from the pump housing. I also added a 5 second clip of how it sounds. It appears to have a slight oscillating sound to it. Is that normal?
Hi Scott, Can you take a photo of the motor label and post that, just to make sure what you received is indeed the B2854 motor.
Reply
Can you tell me the difference between the B2858 and a B2854 models? Why is the B2858 so much more expensive?
Reply
The B2858 motor is a full rated motor and the B2854 is an uprated motor. The full rated model has about a half of a horsepower higher total horsepower than the uprated version hence the higher price.

Hi Alan, No this is not the proper replacement for the Hayward Super Pump in your photos. If you want to go with the same motor then you can go with this UST1152 1.5 HP Single Speed Motor if you wanted something slightly more energy efficient (i.e. about 10%) then you can go with this UCT1152 1.5 HP Motor and if you want something ultra energy-efficient (i.e. 50%-70% savings) then go with this V-Green Variable Speed Replacement Motor Your UST1152 can be wired either 115V or 230V and the Variable Speed Motor can only be wired 230V. With any of these options you will require this Hayward Super Pump Seal Kit.

We would suggest this 1 HP Full Rate Dual Speed Motor and this Hayward Super II Seal Kit. The reason we are suggesting the 1 HP full rate is that the True HP for the 1 HP full rate is identical to your 1.5 HP Up Rate. Here is the math showing this 1.5 HP Up Rate - 1.5 HP x 1.0 Service Factor = True HP of 1.5 THP and 1 HP Full Rate - 1 HP x 1.5 Service Factor = True HP of 1.5 THP

I have the Pentair Sta-Rite Supermax High Performance pump that needs the motor replaced. I currently have the 1HP motor and would like to get a 1.5 HP motor. Which is the correct one(s) to choose from? TY
Hi Scott, the 1.5 horsepower replacement single-speed motor will be the model B854 however it is not always recommended to go up in horsepower as it may be too much for your system. One fail-safe is to go with a variable speed so you can just adjust the RPM's and not have to worry. If you do that the variable speed motor is the ECM16SQU. Here is a guide that we put together that may also assist called "How to Size a Pool Pump for Your In-Ground Pool"

Hello Krupal, The V-Green 1.65 HP Square Flange 48Y Variable Speed Motor - ECM16SQU you purchased is the correct motor for your Plus HP. Also, I'm not sure if you meant shaft seal instead of seal plate, but the shaft seal you will need based on your seal number starting with "K" is the Pump Shaft Seal OEM 3/4" - R0445500. If you purchase the seal plate you will not need to purchase the shaft seal, the seal plate is the Backplate Kit - R0445200. I will send you a quote for both.

If you can see your pump's model number, the CF models need the GOKIT73, the CH models use the GOKIT5 or the GOKIT5SALTIf you just want the shaft seal, instead of the whole kit you would need the Shaft Seal or the Heavy Duty Shaft Seal (For Saltwater Pools)

Hi Mike, Thanks for the photos! We are showing that the P2RA5C pump is a 1/2 HP pump and the B854 motor you are enquiring about is a 1-1/2 HP motor. So you would have 2 options. Option 1 is to stay with the 1/2 HP Motor and if you went this route you would need the following items 1/2 HP Pool Pump Motor, 1/2 HP Impeller, and DuraGlas Seal Kit. If you wanted to go up to the 1-1/2 HP then you would need these items 1-1/2 HP Pool Pump Motor, 1-1/2 HP Impeller, 1-1/2 HP Diffuser and DuraGlas Seal Kit

Last I might be interested in changing over to a variable speed motor. What would you guys recommendation on that might be? I'm not sure it would be a big savings for me since my pool is rather small and I only have a suction type sweeper.
Reply
Hello Steven. The Magnetek Century model B2854 is the correct replacement for your current motor. The compatible Variable Speed model would be the ECM16SQU. A variable-speed motor utilizes less electricity than a single-speed motor because it operates at reduced motor RPMs - using less electricity, slowing circulation thus providing improved water filtering as well. The programming flexibility of the Variable Speed Motor provides the flexibility to tailor the pump's performance to the water quality needs of the pool. My pump was running and started making a very loud noise and then started leaking out the bottom. I replaced the seal but it kept making the loud noise. I can only assume the a bearing in the pump is bad. For about a week the pump ran without pumping water as the lid was leaking and not allowing it to prime. I assume the heat build up ruined the bearing. What are your thoughts? Century Centurion, part # 7-193993-05 5/8" shaft. Please tell me the proper motor for the replacement. Thank you.
Hello Phillip. The Century motors 1.0 HP Full Rate Energy Efficient (EE) Motor model B2841V1 is the direct replacement for the Century Centurion Motor model 7-193993-05. Century 1.0 HP Square Flange 56Y Full Rate EE Motor - B2841V1 From the information provided, the excessive noise coming from the motor is probably the result of bearing failure. Bearing damage can occur when the pump runs but fails to prime. Motor heat builds during operation and is not dissipated via the motor shaft to the circulating water. The result is bearing failure. The motor shaft seal, seal plate gasket, pump lid o-ring, and diffuser o-ring should be replaced concurrent with the new motor.

I have a Pentair pump housing. It is making a loud squeal when running. What motor and pump housing would I need to replace/ rebuild? Is there a 2 hp option?
Thank you for contacting Inyo Pools, Most likely the noise your hearing is coming from the bearings going bad in the motor. It could be the impeller is rubbing against something in the pump housing, but you will not be able to tell that until you take the pump apart. If you went to 2Hp option you may need to replace the impeller and diffuser.

Wondering if you can help. I have a Century 1.5 HP Square Flange 56Y Up Rate Motor - B2854 working on my pool and yesterday pump stopped working and was making a large humming sound. Shut it off and tried to restart after a short time and same thing happened. Tried again about a half hour later and it starting working. Today, I tried to turn it on and same issue (humming sound) but a few minutes alter it starting working again. Any idea what the problem is?
Reply
Hi J, you can start your diagnosis by checking to be sure the impeller turns freely - a stuck impeller, frozen bearings or frozen shaft seal will make hand-turning the impeller difficult and may cause it to not start. If that is okay, then you might try testing the capacitor using the instructions in the How to Test a Pool Pump Capacitor guide to confirm if it's the culprit. If the capacitor is okay, you will have to replace the motor. The capacitor is a small part that looks similar to a battery. They are typically only good for around 5000 starts before they go bad. So, if you’ve had your motor for a long time and now it won’t reliably start or hums, the capacitor may be the issue.
Reply
Hi Rich...thanks for the feedback. Really don't know how to check impeller and problem seems to be hit and miss. Some times it starts and other times just makes a humming sound and I have to shut off pump. Have called a pool service company, hoping it's a simple fix. Thanks again for your help in explaining what might be causing the problem.

I need a replacement motor for a1.5 hp Pentair Whisperflow WF-26 (part number 011773). I currently have a 1.5 HP A.O. Smith motor number 177475. Is the Century 1.5 HP Square Flange 56Y Up Rate Motor - B2854 the appropriate replacement? Are there other options?
FYI, I have tried replacing the capacitor (which was successful in the past), the shaft turns freely by hand, and the timer is turning. I suspect something either something has failed in the motor or a connection has corroded.
Hi Jerad, the Century 1.5 HP Square Flange 56Y Up Rate Motor - B2854 will be a perfect replacement for your WhisperFlo WF-26 pump. We would recommend installing a Tune-Up Kit for Whisperflo - GOKIT32 which contains new o-rings and a new motor shaft seal to ensure a leak-free installation. The other option for that motor would be this V-Green 1.65 HP Square Flange 48Y Variable Speed Motor - ECM16SQU. When set up properly, variable-speed motors can save quite a bit of electricity.

Hello Susanne. The Century Motors 1.5 HP Up Rate Motor model B2854 is a compatible replacement for the Pentair 355023S. The preferred method for electrical connection is 'Hard Wired". However, a "Plug-In" electrical connection is acceptable if it complies with all state and local electrical requirements. The Century Motor model B2854 is rated for 230/115V. A "plug In" style electrical connection typifies a 115V connection. Please be certain to wire the new motor to the correct voltage. The electrical wires can be removed from the current motor and connected to the new motor's terminal block. Installation Guidelines

Do you have a Performance Curve for this motor? I'm trying to figure out how many gallons per minute this motor can pump based on 72 feet of water. The motor is 1.5HP with 3450 RPM and the wet end is WF-26 for 1.5HP pump. I've seen performance curves on other complete packages sell on your website. Thank you!
Reply
Hello Timothy. Performance Curves are specific to the manufacturer/model of the pump and not the motor. The WF-26 is a 1.5 HP Up Rate Model with a total horsepower (THP) of 1.65 manufactured with the Impeller, 1 Hp Full 1 1/2 Hp Up. (073128) It is the combination of the 1.65 THP motor and the Impeller that produces data that appears on the pump curve. The Century 1.5 HP Square Flange 56Y Up Rate Motor - B2854 with the same impeller reads as a 1.5HP pump on the Performance Curve. Whisperflo Pump 1 1/2 HP - WF-26 At 72 ft of Head, roughly 90 GPM.

can this motor be used on a 208V electric connection
Reply
Hello Youssef. Motors are rated for 10% over or under the nameplate voltage listed on the motor. This is a NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) requirement. A 230 volt motor can operate as low as 207 volts. A motor rated at 208/230 volts means the motor will operate at the 208 volt rating, not 10% under the 208 volt rating. Motors that are truly intended for 208 volts are nameplated for 200 volts. Such a motor rating would allow the minimum voltage to be 180 volts.

what's the difference between a B2854 and a B2854V1?
Reply
Hello Fran. The Century Motors B2841V1 is a single speed 1.0 HP, 1.65 total horsepower (THP) Full Rate Energy Efficient motor. Even though the motor is 1.0 HP, the Service Factor is 1.65. Horsepower X Service Factor = THP. 1.0 HP X 1.65 SF = 1.65 THP The Century Motors B2854 is a single speed 1.5HP, 1.65 THP Up Rate Standard Efficiency motor. 1.5 HP X 1.1SF= 1.65 THP. Energy Efficient versus Standard Efficiency references the rated amperage draw (electricity usage) of the individual motor. The B2841V1 is rated for 14.8 amps @ 115V, 7.4 amps @ 230V. The B2854 is rated at 16.0 amps @ 115V, 8.0 amps @ 230V. The B2841V1 uses less electricity, costing less to operate.

Hello, yes, the Century (A.O. Smith) 1.5 HP Up Rate Motor, Square Flange 56Y Frame, Single Speed - Model B2854V1, B2854, will be the correct replacement motor for your unit. Additionally, you will need a seal kit for the motor replacement process, which would be the Pentair SuperFlo, Sta-Rite SuperMax Saltwater Seal Kit - Model GOKIT78SALT for your pump.
