Part # GOKIT38
Standard tune up kit for the Sta-Rite P4E & P4EA Max-E-Glas II / DuraGlas II pumps includes the shaft seal and all o-rings, gaskets and lubricant.
We highly recommend replacing the shaft seal, o-rings and gaskets when replacing your motor. If you use your old shaft seal, it will not mate up properly with the new motor and may leak.

For More Pool Pump Motors
I recently changed my pool motor and gaskets. I made sure to lubricate all the gaskets with vaseline. A few days later water is leaking from the pump. What did I do wrong? Help please!!

You never want to use vaseline on any rubber gaskets or o-rings. Vaseline is petroleum based and will deteriorate the rubber quickly. Whenever you change the motor on a pool pump it is recommended that you replace the gaskets and shaft seal as well. A >Go-kit contains the shaft seal, packet of non-petroleum based lubricant and gaskets you will need for your pump. If you already have the gaskets, you can purchase >Magic Lube.

My pump is not priming even after cleaning impeller. Will purchasing this kit aid in fixing that problem?

The seal kit can help with loss of prime. I can't guarantee that it will solve your problem. The loss of prime could be from an air leak at the valves or plumbing in front of the pump.

my stayright pool pump mpra6c-207L motor needs replaced. What motor do you recommend ? Do I need the tune up kit also?

Hi, Jim. The MPRA6G-207L model pump will use the USQ1202 motor. There is not a tune up kit available for that pump so you will have to purchase the seal and o-ring separately which are all listed on the Sta-Rite Dyna Pro/ Dyna Pro E Pump Parts Diagram page.

Can I get this kit (GOKIT38) with this Shaft Seal PS-201V, 3/4" Shaft Size (PS-201V-CMS)? I am replacing the motor with A.O. Smith 1 H.P Square Flange Up Rate Motor - USQ1102 and have a saltwater pool and would like the extra protection. Thanks

We, unfortunately, do not carry the saltwater kit version of that seal kit so the saltwater main seal would have to be purchased separately.

These are steps I followed to replace the seals in my DIY project, they might be similar for your pump; make sure you get the specific parts for your pump model and follow your own user manual.
1. Turn off electricity from the breaker box, open the basket lid and purge the pump removing the drain plug to release the pressure in the system.
2. Unscrew the handle on the clamp and remove it.
3. Separate the motor from the tank body.
4. Remove the diffuser screws from the seal plate to access the impeller, pay attention to the diffuser position because you’ll have to match it when reinstalling it.
5. Remove the cap in the back of the pump and secure the shaft from turning with a wrench.
6. By hand unscrew the impeller counterclockwise, it’s reverse threaded. I used pliers because it was tight.
7. Remove the seal plate from the motor unscrewing the four bolts in the back.
8. Remove the two parts of the shaft seal, my pump had a heat seal which I read you don't have to remove unless it is damaged.
9. One part of the shaft seal came off with the impeller, I took it off with pliers.
10. To take off the other part, I turned the seal plate face down and tapped out the shaft seal with a screwdriver.
11. Apply the lubricant included in the kit and place the new shaft seal carefully in the seal plate, do not touch the ceramic part of the new seal with your hands or lubricant.
12. Reinstall the seal plate to the motor, add the second part of the shaft seal with the metallic part facing the impeller. Again, do not touch the ceramic part with your hands.
13. Replace all the O-rings and add Magic lube all around them.
14. Put everything back in its place, hold the shaft from the back again and tight the impeller by hand (clockwise).
15. Reinstall the diffuser, remember there’s a screw port larger than the rest.
16. Reassemble the motor to the housing and reinstall the clamp.
17. Attach the handle to the clamp and tighten until it starts squeaking.
18. Prime the pump, turn the power on and you are all set!

(4 out of 5 stars) A Must When Changing Motor
Reviewed By: George C. from Homosassa, FL ()
Pros: All the necessary parts
Cons: Could have included instructions
I purchased this kit when ordering a replacement motor. I found it necessary to go on-line to figure out what gasket went where. A sheet of instructions would have been helpful. Also the large gasket provided for the split impeller casing was a round o-ring, while the original gasket was flat. Fortunately it fit in the casing face and sealed it, although there was some difficulty in getting it to stay in place while the pump was being reassembled. Finally, there was one small o-ring left over which I couldn't figure where to install it. This kit should be purchased when replacing the motor - you'll have a like-new pump.
