Part # 5056-08
Manufacturer Code U109-93SS
Dimensions 1.3" L x 1.23" W x 1.23" D
Pump Shaft Seal 5/8" OEM - U109-93SS
The mechanical seal has two white side surface, one larger then other. What side is face-up on the seal plate? Also what end of the Shaft seal meet the seal plate and the Impeller. This is my first time changing the pool motor.
Thank you.

Hi Rich, You would place white side of the shaft seal up inside of the seal plate. We have a great Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Shaft Seal which goes into great detail on the topic.

No you would not need silicone glue to install this shaft seal. We have a guide with Video on How to Install a Shaft Seal which will walk you through the installation process.

I have a AO Smith pump (p/n: 7-165201-07) 2HP serial No. 317063M. The shaft seal is leaking...what parts do I need to fix it?
thanks

We would need the front pump housing model that the motor bolts to in order to cross reference that seal for you.

Is there any physical difference between the Pentair Shaft Seal U109-93SS (Part #5056-08) and the Generic Shaft Seal PSR100 (Part #5250-100)? Do both seals use the same type/quality of materials (stainless steel, ceramic, plastic and rubber)?
I don't care that one is made by Pentair and the other by US Seal, I'm more concerned with the quality of materials. I've had some problems with rusted seals and want to make sure either seal will function the same.

Yes sir, either seal will hold up the same. I don't know which Pentair pump you're referring to otherwise I would give you specifics, but if there's a saltwater shaft seal on the parts diagram for that pump I'd recommend purchasing that one if you're worried about rust.

Pros: Good price
Cons: Bought one locally. Didn't fit
The rubber boot that the cermic stationary seal seats in was wrong diameter. I found out after I bought a new seal locally that I could reuse the old boot with the new cermic seal. I saved everything and will use it next time I replace the seal.

Pros: perfect fit

Perfect fit pump motor shaft seal. Easily installed and furnished in box with written instructions. Not clear was which side of the two pieces mate to each other. Instructions only caution to pay attention when disassembling the old seal. My pump, however, had been disassembled by another individual. Using the tutorials and parts diagrams on INYOpools site provided the needed clarification. I wore uncoated, latex gloves to keep from leaving skin oil on the ceramic seal surface.
