I currently have a 1.5 hp Hayward pump with 1.5" ports. Can I up grade to a pump with 2" ports with causing an issue with the rest of the plumbing.

Hi, Robert. Yes, you can install a pump with 2" ports without causing an issue.

I have a 1.5 hp Hayward northstar, will this pump be a good replacement for my original?
Reply
Hi Anthony, Yes this 1.4 HP Variable Speed would be a great replacement for your 1.5 HP Northstar. You will save a ton your operational costs by going to a variable speed.

Do you guys sell extended warranties? If I install it myself does that do anything to the 2 year warranty?
Reply
Hi, Anthony. We do not offer any extended warranties. If the pump is self installed, you're still eligible for the full manufacturer warranty.

After carefully researching VS pumps I decided on the Waterway PD140. The utility company provided a $350 rebate, the warranty is 2 years even with a DIY install, and itβs made in the USA!
The pump showed up in a very solid box with tons of formed foam. Adapters were provided for my 1 1/2β pipes and the variable height for the base were very helpful for the install.
Wiring was easy considering my previous pump was 220 just like the new pump is pre wired. Make sure you have a 1/2β seal tite connector - the pump does not come with one.
The pivot attachments on the pump are great and make plumbing it easy with the flexibility.
The new pump is quiet, powerful and doing a great job on our 28,000 gallon pool and spa. Our old pump was a 1 hp and our system ran at 20 psi - same as the new pump in 3450 rpm....
The only improvement that I would like to see would be an easy on - off override to continually run for heating or opening.
This is a great pump and I highly recommend it!

Installed new unions that. were sent to me replacing the defective ones. Defective ones couldn't be installed in the pump. So it was just installing the new ones that were sent and connecting the hose from the pool and the hose to the filter.

(4 out of 5 stars) Over all very good

Lots to talk about with this pump. I wanted to buy a Pentair Super Flo VS, however cost $50 more and only has a 60 day warranty if self installed. That seemed like BS to me so I took a chance on the Waterway PD-140 instead since it was made in the USA. We purchased our house two months ago and the pool had an old Hayward Super Pump 1.5HP which was having issues. Our local utility company had a $400 rebate through the state's energy saving program so it made sense to buy a more expensive variable speed pump as it ended up costing me the same amount as cheap Chinese made single speed pump. What I like about the pump - It seems well made and is much more substantial than it appears in the photos online. It's very quiet overall and is almost silent at 1500 rpm. It really moves a lot of water and I found that at 2650 rpm, which is about 600 watts, it will move enough water to make all of my returns and three fountains flow. The controls are easy to use and it doesn't take long to program it once you figure out the flow of the various modes etc. The electrical install went surprisingly quick and the layout and thought that went into the electrical box was really obvious. What I didn't care for - I don't know if this shipped directly from the manufacturer or what the deal was but it literally took 11 days to arrive, which in this day and age is forever. The packaging job was terrible and the protective motor guard on mine arrived with two small cracks around the screw holes. I have a suspicion that maybe this happened at the factory because the bottom of the box was well protected with foam. The box itself had ZERO packing tape on the top of it, only two large staples that were barely holding it closed. I was a little annoyed but figured everything was probably okay. When I opened the box I found the unions and 1.5" to 2" adapters loose in the box, with the loose top I'm sure if it was turned on its side they could have possibly fallen out. Either the factory or the dealer could have slapped a piece of tape in any direction on the box. The "adjustable" unions that ship with it seem to work okay, however it's definitely not obvious where two fo the O rings fit on it and there is no reference or drawings of the unions in the accompanying manual. Lastly, like many folks with variable speed pumps over time at low speed mine develops a little big of an air bubble inside the basket. I've programmed mine to cycle up to 2650 rpms three times during the day to keep the full prime which seems to work well. Overall, I think this pump is a great value for the money and would definitely recommend it to anyone shopping for one.

(4 out of 5 stars) Feature rich pump for 20,000 in ground pool.

Seems like a very good unit for a 20,000 below ground pool. Lots of features for programming start and stop times and seems to be very safe. Came highly recommended, and although I have not been able to fully use it due to other pool neglect issues, I am confident that it will be a good purchase and performer once other pool issues have been addressed.

(5 out of 5 stars) Excellent VS pump value
Reviewed By: Inyo Customer ()
What a good pump value. It is the perfect VS pump for old pools like mine with only one suction line and all 1.5in plumbing. My old pump was a 1hp PacFab HydroPump with an open face impeller so this pump is a great upgrade in water moving capability and efficiency. I love having the capability of kicking this pump up to full speed for backwashing. It backwashes much more effectively than my old pump. I have an MX-8 suction cleaner and my old pump could not move enough water to make it run well. The PD-140 at only 2500 RPM provides enough suction to let the MX-8 climb the pool walls. I run it at this speed for 4 hours and then kick it down to 1500 RPM where it will still move the MX-8 around the pool floor. This pump is very quiet too compared to my past pumps. This pump also has a built-in freeze guard. In N Texas this is a very welcome feature not often found in lower power VS pumps. This pump also comes with swivel unions, which eased my installation. With regular unions I would have had to remove my old plumbing and start over. At this price point the PD-140 is a great value and I am happy with my purchase.

This replaced and old single speed pump. It has 3 speeds plus it self primes for 3 minutes with unbelievable amounts of suction. My pool was cleaned up in 24 hours.Set up is easy. Would purchase again. It was a Inyo recommendation and a good one at that. Good value compared to others that do the same.
