What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

The output of a motor is not determined by the motor, but by the pump it is getting attached to. Some pumps offer up more resistance than other, which would affect its performance.

I had a Dura Gras 1 hp. I purchased a USQ1102 AO smith pump. but I can not get the Impeller off of the Dura Gras pump. how do I get it off or can I get it off?

To get the impeller off you would need to use a wrench to hold the back end of the shaft at the rear of the motor, then unscrew the impeller. Sometimes using a rubber strap wrench helps to remove the impeller.

what Impeller would I get for the new pump? would it fit in the old housing of the impeller? what would the whole housing cost?

These are tell tale signs that the motor is on it's last legs. Possibly able to be rebuilt it but at 8-10 years old, I would not advise to do that. Bad bearings usually cause the the high pitch noise and a motor running hot could be caused by a few other factors such as resistance, or even a temperature switch.

my motor just quit yesterday and from all info i see on it the USQ 1102 is the correct replacement. I have a HP of 1. Would it help my old pool if I upgraded to a 1.5 or 2 hp motor? Before it quit it wasn't pulling the water all the way to the top of the basket. If a 1.5 or 2 might be better, could you send me the model numbers and prices. thank you very much.
Reply
Hello Glenna, First let us address the fact that your pump basket would not fill to the top (prime). This is an indicator that you have an air leak either around the pump lid basket or possibly where the valves are before the pump. Changing to a stronger motor would not correct this problem. Second, I would not recommend upgrading your motor unless you have added features to your pool (ie. solar panels, hot tub, fountains) or if you have been experiencing issues with your pool not receiving proper filtration. An increase in the horsepower will improve the circulation, but keep in mind that you may need to change parts on your pump as well to accommodate the higher speeds.

Do you carry these particular parts? I'd also like to know the part number of this thing since everyone seems to be asking me this same question.

Good morning Tim, The bearings you are looking for are # 6203. If you type that in on our search bar it will give you a few different options. I would need to know what type of pump you have to recommend the seal. You can also type the model pump in with parts at the end and determine what type of seal you need. If you any help with this you can call us at 877-372-6038.

I am replacing just the motor and I noticed on the old one there is a rubber thing around the spindle but the new one doesn't have that. So I am wondering do I have to order that part? Or is that not necessary anymore?
Thanks,

The rubber grommet around the shaft of the motor is called a water slinger. Its purpose is to help deflect water away from the bearings behind the faceplate of the motor. You can use the one from the previous motor or here is a link to the available water slinger parts.

Hello Eric, Yes the USQ1102 is the correct frame size that will fit with your P2RA5E-1811 StaRite model pump. Please make sure when replacing the motor that you also get a GOKIT which will replace your pump seal and orings. Depending on which model you have Pre 1998 GOKIT6 and 1998 to present GOKIT54, the difference is the GOKIT6 is the pump seal kit if you have a copper cone and you can use GOKIT54 if your not sure whether you have a copper cone or not. You can remove the copper cone and use GOKIT54.

Hello David, This K48L2PA101A1 matches 1.0 HP Full Rate EE Motor (B864SE) - QC1102. I would highly recommend a pump seal or GOKIT when replacing your motor. We would need a pump model number to find the pump seal or GOKIT you would need.

I have a pool pump motor that was running, I turned it off to clean the filter and now it will not start. It is hot to the touch. The motor is a 1 hp Emerson 1081 with a 4 bolt flange. Would it be cheaper to rebuild it or purchase a replacement?
Reply
In some cases it is cheaper to rebuild the motor by replacing the bearings but that is not always worth it if the body of the motor is corroded or there are other internal parts that have burned up. Motors are designed to run hot at around 140 degrees. Most pool owners replace the motor in these instances though. You would need to know the model or part number of the motor and front pump housing that the motor bolts when calling in to place an order.

I currently have a 3/4 hp motor which I bought 2 yrs ago. It is now overheating and shutting off. I have checked all the wiring and replaced it. We use our pump 6 months out of the year. I am considering adding a programmable 7 day timer and go up to a 1 hp. motor programing it to run 4 hours on and 4 hours off.... Any thoughts on if this will help life of pump?
thank you

Hi, Louis. Unfortunately, operating the motor that way will not extend the motor's life. Motors are designed to run, to make sure you get the most out of the motor, make sure that the pump parts and the operating environment are maintained.

I need replacement motor for my 1HP whisper-flo WF-4 pump using SQ1102 motor. Can I use this instead?
Also, what kind of o-rings would I need? Attached pics.
Hi, Sam. Unfortunately, you can use the USQ1102 motor is you replace the Impeller with P/N 073127 which will reduce your water flow since it is a smaller motor. Otherwise, you will need to use the SQ1102 motor. Whichever option you choose, you will also need the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT.

Hello,
I believe this motor is the replacement for my Emerson C55CXKLS-5006, FR 48Y, 1HP, wired at 230 Volts (please see attached picture). Is there a variable speed motor that can potentially be used besides the motor listed. Also, the housing of my impeller is a P2R A5E-124L, code number ID92H (I think, please see the attached picture), so what seal kit will I need for either the motor listed or a potential variable speed motor if available). I hope this makes sense. Please advise. Thank you!

The Pentair Challenger does accept a square, or 'Y,' frame motor. But the Challenger uses fullrate and uprate motors, so we would need to know the model, part, or catalog number of your motor to determine the correct match.

Good afternoon Sarah. In order to cross-reference the correct seals for your pump, we will need to know whether you have a Pac Fab Challenger CH or CF series. Since the label on that front pump housing is worn then another clue to confirm which series you have is by getting the impeller and or diffuser part numbers.

Will this replace a Century QC1102 square flange 1hp motor?
Reply
No, the USQ1102 cannot replace the QC1102. The USQ is an uprated 1 HP, with a total horsepower of 1.25. The QC is a full-rated motor with a total HP of 1.65. The USQ would not be able to spin the larger impeller meant for the full-rated model. The correct replacement motor options are the QC1102 or the SQ1102; the latter is a standard efficiency motor that costs more to operate.

Hello, I'm considering purchasing a house with a pool, and have a question about the pump that's currently installed. It's a Century USQ1102. Everything appears to be operating correctly, but if I wanted to swap it out with something more energy efficient what would my options be? From looking around the site it seems like the UQC1102 and ECM16SQU might be replacements. Is that correct? Trying to find something as direct-fit as possible. Thank you!

Brian, Yes, the UQC1102 and ECM16SQU are both drop-in and more efficient replacements for your current motor. If you live in an area with certain energy restrictions, the ECM16SQU might be the way to go.

Hi Leonardo, FR refers to the frame of the motor, or, more specifically, the distance from the center of the driveshaft to the center bottom of the mount, expressed in sixteenths of an inch. A 48 frame motor is 3" from the center of the driveshaft to the center bottom of the mount (48 divided by 16 = 3) and a 56 frame motor is 3-1/2" from the center of the driveshaft to the center bottom of the mount (56 divided by 16 = 3-1/2).
