What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Hello, Patty. The "56" and the "48" are in reference to the frame size of the motor. Normally, the 48 frames are shipped with a rubber insert you apply underneath the end of the motor and the base. They send that in case you are switching from a 56-frame to the 48-frame. If you would rather order the exact frame please use A.O. Hi Ken, This motor can be used with the Max-E-Glas pump but you will also need to confirm the service factor (SF) of your motor because they're different types of motors. Hello Jeff, I would check the motor tags and compare, there are certain motors you need to match up SF (service factor), RPM, VOLTS, and frame. Your frame is the only thing that isn't going to change on these two motors, please compare the motor label to each motor you are interested in to see if they match up to what you currently have now. So if you have a 115v and you go with the SQ1152 it wouldn't work because that one is specifically 230v.

I just bought this motor with GOKIT6, and I'm thinking I should have gotten GOKIT54. The only thing that appears to be "wrong" with the GOKIT6 is that the rubber seat for the white ceramic seal is too small for the opening in the seal plate of the pump. Yes, the USQ1152 should be the motor that is on that, but the previous owner may have which it and when he did most likely changed the impeller as well to fit the motor. If you are able to read a part number on the impeller so we can confirm that you have the correct impeller for a 1.5HP motor otherwise you will have to get the 1.5HP impeller with the USQ1152. And yes, the GOKIT5 is the correct seal kit for your Challenger.

The pump/motor has over the past few months become quite loud. The noise is a whine more than a growl or more coarse sound. I replaced the motor several years ago and wonder if this is an indicator that the motor has a problem or that the pump itself is bad.
Reply
The best way to really be sure is by taking the motor off of the pump housing and then bench testing it to see if it continues to make the sound. If it does then that means that it is the motor bearings.

The 1.65 HP Variable Speed Pool Pump Motor Square Flange - ECM16SQU is the replacement for variable speed. This motor requires 208-230V connection. The A.O. Smith 1 1/2 H.P Square Flange Up Rate Motor - USQ1152 is correct for single speed replacement and offers the 115/230V connection. Please view our 5 Reasons To Get A Variable Speed Pool Pump Motor and do not forget to replace the pump shaft seal.

I have a Sta-Rite MPRA6F-148L pump. It seems to run fine for awhile then randomly shuts off dispite the power being on. I’m not sure if it’s overheating or what? It does seem to let off a lot of heat when running. I can only comfortably touch it for about a second. Should I replace the whole unit? Or does just replacing the motor usually do the job? If so, whichever motor would I need. Thank you!!
Reply
Hi. The shutting off of the motor could be that it is getting too hot engaging the Thermal Overload. You can replace the motor or the pump but can still have the same issue. Use the A.O. Smith Troubleshooting Guide to determine if the thermal overload or the motor is the issue.

To install this Motor will I need a "Installation Kit" ?
Reply
So there is no actual "installation kit" but there are tune-up kits a.k.a. gokits which have the seals and gaskets recommended to be replaced. In order to cross-reference that kit, we would need to know the model name or number of the front pump housing that the motor bolts to. If you cannot locate that model then you can email images to upload@inyopools.com so we can advise.

The replacement motor is indeed the QC1102 and you can use the GOKIT54. Just be advised that if you have the copper cone insert in the seal plate then you would need to remove it. As far as a complete replacement pump, I would recommend the model P6E6E206L.

It is not usually recommended unless the system is tested and recalculated to be able to handle the extra water pressure. Some pool services offer the service to come out and pressure test your system to confirm.

I just received my new 1.5 Hp USQ1152 Replacement Pool Motor for my Pentair Whisperflow WF-26 pump. I am concerned about the impeller lock bolt as it is too wide to fit in the new motor's shaft. I know there are threads on the outside of the shaft that the impeller screws into; however, that leaves a large hole in the middle where the old bolt used to go. Do I need a new bolt, new impeller or does the bolt just get left off? What is the correct salt water seal/gasket kit for the WF-26? Thanks!
Reply
Hello Brett- The impeller screw is old technology and does not fit the newer motors. It is no longer needed and can simply be left off during installation.

I have a whisper flo high performance pump # 0326341051105Z,,#011515-label is ripped not sure which is model/serial# and I see 230V 2HP on the label as well. it currently has a USQ1152 MOTOR 1 1/2 hp, Is this the right motor for it,need to replace and was given 2 different answers, should it have a 2 hp motor? which is the correct motor?
Reply
Hi, Evelyn. The Whisperflo Pump model 011515 was design to use a 2 HP Full Rate Motor - B2843. It appears the pump was reduced to a 1.5 HP which would have required changing the internal parts to match. Since the pump is now using the USQ1152, you should replace it with what's there. You will also need to get the Whisperflo Pump Tune Up Kit - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT.
Reply
Which internal parts would that be? How would I know they were changed. I replaced this motor a little over 2 yrs ago. Is that how often they need to be changed? My pool servicer did not do right by me. How can I be sure he changed the other parts?
Reply
Evelyn, The Impeller would have been changed from P/N 073130 to 073128. I'm certain that the impeller was changed or else the motor wouldn't have lasted this long. Using the larger impeller p/n 073130 with the USQ1152 motor will cause it to overheat immediately.

Hi Lee, No this is not the correct replacement motor for the motor you have included in the photo. You will need this B2982 1 HP 56Y Dual Speed Motor the B2982 will be the correct replacement for you. When replacing your motor we would suggest a tune up kit but we would need to know the make and model of your pump, common models would be the Pentair Whisperflo, Jandy Stealth, Pentair Challenger, etc.. If you could supply us this information or send a photo of your complete pump showing the basket area of your pump where the pipe goes in and out (wide shot of Pump) then we would be able to suggest the proper tune-up kit. Simply click on the reply link below to supply this information or upload your photos.

Hi Lisa, Yes this is the correct replacement motor the motor for the C48L2PA105. We do always suggest a Seal Kit when replacing a motor. To determine the proper seal kit we will need to know your pump make and model information, common pump names would be Sta-Rite Dura-Glas, Dyna Glas, Dyna Max, etc.. To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. So the SQ1152 actually has a higher total horsepower of 2.2 because it is a full rated motor and the USQ1152 is an uprated motor which has a total horsepower of 1.65. Always multiply a motor's labeled horsepower with the service factor to get the total horsepower.

The gaskets are matched to the pump housing and not the motor. This is your parts diagram: Pentair / Pac Fab Challenger CHII / CFII SeriesThere are two versions of gasket kits that are compatible with Challenger, one for the High Head and one for the Medium head. If you can see your pump's model number, the CF models need the GOKIT73, the CH models use the GOKIT5 or the GOKIT5SALTIf you just want the shaft seal, instead of the whole kit you would need the Shaft Seal or the Heavy Duty Shaft Seal (For Saltwater Pools)

is this pump good for a well sprinkler pump?
Reply
The USQ1102 is the motor and not a complete pump. It can be used on some irrigation pumps. You'd want to make sure the specs from the original motor match the specs of this motor. The important specs are the HP (1.5), Service Factor (1.1), Frame (48Y), and voltage (115/230).

I have a Hayward Max Flo XL with a 1 HP pump. I added solar heating and need to move to a 1.5 HP pump. Is this the appropriate replacement for the SP2307X10 motor?
Hello Tim. The Century Motors USQ1152 is a compatible motor replacement for the MaxFlo XL SP2307X10. USQ1152 With the upgrade in motor horsepower (due to the "push" increase necessary), a corresponding change in the impeller is necessary. The Hayward Pool Products Impeller SPX2710CM is the correct upgrade. Impeller 1.5 THP - SPX2710CM The motor shaft seal and seal plate gasket should be replaced concurrent with the new motor. Pump Shaft Seal O-ring If the solar panels' height is above one story or an extensive distance from the pump, a 2.0 HP and a 2.0 HP impeller should be considered.

Can you still ship these to CA?
Reply
Hi Robert, we are unable to ship these to California due to the Title 20 motor regulations, so our friends in the Golden State need to order either the dual-speed SQS1102R motor or the variable-speed ECM16SQU motor. Both can save you quite a bit on your electric bill when they are set up properly. PLEASE NOTE that both motors operate on 220 volts only and may need an adapter to interface with an automation system if you have one.

Hi,
The motor running our Hayward Pool Filter is running really HOT!
I don't know for how long, and if this is normal, I just noticed it recently.
I'm assuming it's telling me it wants to die, but, maybe it runs hot all the time...
Normal? or not?
Attached is a photo. I'm guessing this would be the proper replacement?.
Also, any tutorial videos on replacement?
THANKS for your expertise!
Dave
