Does this pump meet California code for pool pumps?
Reply
California law will vary but most codes require any pump over 1HP to be a dual speed or variable speed. For a 15,000 gallon above ground pool, I would recommend a 1.5 HP dual speed pump: http://www.inyopools.com/Products/02200001004959.htm

How many hours per day should I run my pump?
Reply
There are many factors to consider; bather load, gallons of water, pump horsepower, type and size of filter just to name a few. A good guideline is 8-10 hours a day. On the cooler days and early and late season, you can cut the run time down to 4-6 hours because there is usually less swimmers and cooler water requires less chemicals. In peak season, when it is the hottest, raising the run time to 10-12 hours per day will help to keep the pool clean and circulating during it’s time of heaviest use.

Is all I need to do is add hoses to each end and put them in the water to make it go?
Reply
You would also require a filter, the system would work as follows.... Pump with hose back to pool skimmer, hose between pump and sand filter and then a hose from sand filter back to the return wall jet on pool. If you already have this set up then you could just replace your pump whith this pump here. If you need the entire system which includes the pump, sand filter and hoses then you would require this complete pool pump & filter system

I currently have a side discharge pump. Can the pump be rotated 90 degrees, making it a side discharge?

Unfortunately the housing does not rotate on the NE6170B pump. If you need a pump with a housing that rotates, you would need the Hayward Matrix: http://www.inyopools.com/search_matrix.aspx?Keywords=matrix

what type of switch does it have or do you just plug it in and unplug to turn on and off?

This pump does not have a switch but you could use our Above Ground Pool Pump Timer to automate when the pump turns on and off. You can also use the timer as a manual on/off switch.

what is the GPM of this pump

The gpm rating is based of the feet of head your pump has. The NE6170B (BC2730) will do about 90 gpm at 20 feet of head.

If I buy this PureLine pump to replace the Proline (which is on it's way out), will I need to purchase one of these nuts to make sure the new PureLine pump fits the hose to my filter? If so, which one?
Thanks!

Hi Brian, Most of the times that nut slides over the filter hose like this Filter Hose and Nut the female portion of the nut would thread right onto the the male thread of the PL1501 pump. You should not need to purchase a new nut as the ProLine uses a standard 1.5" female thread and the PureLine uses a standard 1.5" male thread.

In our experience we have found that 1 HP pump is more then enough power to properly circulate a 24' above ground pool. The good thing about going down from 2 HP to 1 HP is that the cost of operation is much less on the 1 HP.

Reply
Hi Lisa, The PL1501 is a great pump and would be a suitable replacement for the 340197 Dynamo Pump, the only caveat is that the plumbing ports on the PL1501 are not in the exact same position as the Dynamo pump. This means that you may have some re-plumbing. If you are using flexible hoses between your pool and pump as well as your pump and filter then this may not be an issue. If the plumbing being in the exact location as your old pump is important then I would suggest this 340197 Dynamo Pump as it is still be produced and the plumbing ports are located in the same spots as your current pump.

Any of this information would help out to make sure we suggest the proper pump. You can click on the reply link below to supply us this information.

Pond is small 10-x10 about 3ft deep. Filter is above water level. 1 1\2 fittings. Pump that was on filter was original pump 1hp. Two water falls and a rock fountain supplied by 1in schedule 80 pipe each having its own shutoff valve.
Reply
Hi Wesley, Thank you for the information! Since your pump is above the water line you will need a self-priming pump which means the pump can pull the water up to it. The PL1501 is a gravity fed pump normally used on above ground pools where the pump is placed below the water level. I would suggest the PL1600 1 HP Pure Flow Self Priming Pump for your pond. The PL1600 does have 1.5" plumbing ports so you will need to get a reducer from 1.5" to 1" which you can obtain from your local hardware store.

Hello, I'm looking at this pump for an 18 ft intex pool the pump that came died after one season and was weak from new anyways. Would this make a better pump for us. We have the ports on the sidewall to hook the lines. I'd have to double check line size but I think 2 in. And 3 lines total.

Hi Andy, Yes this PureLine Pump would be a big upgrade from the Intex pump that came with your pool. You would need to get some Intex adapters to hook the hose up to the pump. And here you may view our purchase the Intex Adapters. The most common adapter would be this Intex Hose Adapter to 1.5" Pump Port

My pump won't fill the filter basket area. Once I prime it it sucks all the water out and dosnt fill back in but water fills as it pumps. And since that happens i do not have much water pressure coming through the jet.

Need to replace H.E. Pump. Will this pump be a good replacement? What is your ship time to Iowa?
Yes this would be a good replacement for the pump in your photo. You may have a little re-plumbing but nothing major. Ship time to Iowa is 3-4 business days.

Will this pump be a proper replacement for this one?
Yes, this is a compatible pump replacement but you may need to use different standard plumbing connections if you have a package that came with a filter.

is this pump a good replacement for waterway HP1.0SPL

Hi Mike, In regards to power this would be a stronger pump then your Waterway pump. If your Waterway Pump is Side Discharge you can rotate the discharge on the PureLine PL1501 to be side discharge by following this Guide on Changing the PureLine Pure Pro XL to Side Discharge. You may also need to put some shims under the pump or filter so that the port on the PureLine Pump match up with the inlet port on your filter. Outside of these few modifications, everything would work just fine with this pump.

Is the 1501 a good replacement for a proline sd-10-1n11cb pump?

Hi Mike, This PureLine Pure Pro XL would be a great replacement for the SD-10-1N11CB, however, the connects may be different depending on if you're using a pump to filter hose. You may need this Adpater-417-4161.

I want to replace my DYNII-NI-1 with a PL1501 1-HP. What our the pros and cons if I upgrade to a 1.5 -HP to replace the old 1-HP unit?
Reply
Hi Ken, The PL15 series would not be the proper replacement for a DYNII-NI-1 since the DYNII-NI-1 is normally used for inground pools. Inground pools will require a self-priming pump since the equipment is normally above the pool water level. The PL1501 Pure Pro XL Pump is used on above ground pools and is classified as a gravity fed pump since the pump is below the water line and the water flows down to the pump. I would suggest our PL1601 Pure Flow 1.5 HP Self Priming Pump I think going up to the 1.5 HP would be a good choice as you will get a little more power out of your pump.

I’m thinking about downgrading my 1hp pump. It’s a small, above ground pool with about 5,600 gallons. Connections are great, but it doesn’t draw water in properly. For example, connecting a vacuum causes all pressure to disappear. Am I running TOO much hp?

Hi. A 1 HP pump is too large for a pool that size. You can replace it with a 1/2 HP or 40 GPM pump listed.

I have an Intex ultra 18x52'' and the sand filter pump i have is 1/2 hp, it isn't putting out enough to run my pool cleaner. Does anyone have any suggestions on what 1 hp pump to use that works with Intex. I did check and according to the pool vac my pump should be enough to run it.

Hi Oz, this pump along should be good for your set up, you may also need to use a few of these Intex Adapters to pair the pump with your filter.

I see most of the pumps are using soft hoses from the pump discharge to the top of the sandfilter. Is there a reason for this? As an old pipefitter is there a reason I cannot use PVC with a couple of unions between the motor and the sand filter if I use long 90-degree fitting instead of the standard 90-degree. This would help with the turn and reduce water flow restrictions to the sandfilter. I would use unions so I can take it down if need be as well as for winter storage.
Reply
Hi, Ken. The reason is to reduce the restriction. You can use hard pvc and unions if you wish.

I have a pentagram pump 115 volts. Not sure if it’s a 1 or 1.5 hp. Would this be compatible for my pool?
From other answers i have read this pump would be suitable for 24 ft above ground pool. My concern is that the electrical cord is different. My power source is not the standard three prong, I have the kind that has three weird shaped prongs and you twist after you plug it in. I am sure there is a name for it but this women does not know it. Do you have a pump with that type of plug.
Reply
Karen, we do not offer the 1 HP Above Ground Pool Pump - PL1501 with the twist lock cord. You would need to purchase the correct cord and then wire it to the new pump. The cord that would need would be the 3' Cord Assy. W/20a Twist-lock Plug - 31953-0101.

I have a Leslie's freestyle 15 foot above ground pool. I don't have any trees in my yard or near by. I have used a intex 2500 GPH pump/cartridge filter for the past 3 years and it has worked, but I have to change the filter every 2-3 days during season. I want to switch to a sand filter. Would this pump and Pureline 19" above ground sand filter/base work for my pool? Would it be better to go with the Intex Krystal clear 3000gph sand filter? Looking for longevity and minimum maintenance.

would this be the correct pump to match my filter? Hayward s=220T?
Hi Derek, with the Hayward S220T model sand filter any 1 hp above ground pool pump will be a good match. Here is the Waterway Hi Flo pool pump model NE6450 that will be an alternate option being that this pump is no longer available.
