Dual Speed Means Low Operational Costs - up to 70% less
This pump is a dual speed pump meaning that it has super low operational costs. Dual speed pumps have a switch that allows you to run the pump at a high speed of 1.5 HP or you can switch the pump to the low speed to operate at .39 HP. Normally you can run the pump at the low speed for your general filtration and when doing so this costs about 70% less than running at the high speed of 1.5 HP. The great thing is you have the high speed for things like vacuuming or if you get into a demanding algae situation.

How many hours per day should I run my pump?

There are many factors to consider; bather load, gallons of water, pump horsepower, type and size of filter just to name a few. A good guideline is 8-10 hours a day. On the cooler days and early and late season, you can cut the run time down to 4-6 hours because there is usually less swimmers and cooler water requires less chemicals. In peak season, when it is the hottest, raising the run time to 10-12 hours per day will help to keep the pool clean and circulating during it’s time of heaviest use.

Can this be changed to side discharge?

Is this pump self priming?

Above ground pool pumps are not self-priming as an above ground pool water level is higher than the pump which by gravity will feed water to the pump allowing it to prime.

I ordered a new pump and went to Lowes and got 20ft of pvc pipe and several elbows, threaded connectors and shutoff valves. I looked at the old hose and cut/dry fit my pvc before glueing. Once glued I waited a few hours before turning the pump on. Works like a charm now.
