Is the UST1202 the replacement motor for my 2HP Hayward Super II pump? My motor does not have that external bump. Does that make a difference?
Reply
Hello Doyle - The UST1202 is the correct motor if the service factor (SF) of your current motor is 1.1. This rating can be found on the motor label. The external bump is a run capacitor. All of the new 2HP motors have this capacitor.

Hi Bill - No. USN1202 is the proper uprated replacement motor for the Hayward 2hp pump model sp4020ns. See the Service Factor (SF) on the label of your current motor. If it is 1.2 you have an uprated motor. If it is 1.35, you have a full rated motor and you would replace it with SN1202.See our guide on "How To Understand True Pump Horsepower - Up Rated vs Full Rated".

If you did change from a 1-1/2HP to a 2HP with the super pump you'll have to replace the impeller as well because the motor will be too big for the impeller. Also you'll need to know the flow rate of your filter and foot of head to see if your filter will even be able to handle the increased flow rate.

Reply
Hello Don- No, it is recommended that you stay with the A.O. Smith Round Flange 2 HP Full Rate Motor - ST1202. The ST1202 is a full rated motor and has a total HP of 2.6. The A.O. Smith 2 H.P Round Flange Up Rate Replacement Motor - UST1202 is uprated and only has a total HP of 2.2. The St1202 is a stronger motor and if the appropriate parts aren't changed when going down to the UST1202, i.e. impeller and diffuser (if needed), then the motor will fail prematurely. Hi, JJ. A 1.5HP full rate motor has a total hp of 2.25 so technically you already using a 2hp motor. You will have to upgrade to a 2hp full rate motor ST1202 which will have a total hp of 2.6. You will have to replace the impeller along with the necessary parts to make the conversion depending on the pump model. If you're replacing a 1.5hp full rate motor to a 2hp up rate motor - UST1202, you do not have to replace the impeller, diffuser etc. just the pump seals.

Hi, Matt. The original pump model # SP2607X10 is for a 1HP pump. Hello Kevin, depending on what year your unit is there is the 2008-current version which would be A.O. Smith 2 HP Up Rated Northstar Replacement Motor - USN1202 and there is no gokit with this there is HAYWARD NORTHSTAR/TRISTAR SHAFT SEAL (OEM) - SPX3200SA. With the Hayward Northstar 1998 to 2007 needs a Tune Up Kit Hayward Northstar 4000 Series Pumps (Pre-2003) - GOKIT66 and the USN1202 motor is the same.

Hi, I have a 17-yr old Hayward Super II Pump SP3015X20AZ w/ 75' head in Arizona where I run the pump 12 hours per day every day. The original unit lasted 11 years until the motor went out. I then replaced it with a refurbished motor and I am on my 4th refurbished motor in 6 years. Lately the water is barely flowing over my raised hot tub - it used to really flow. I've replaced seals every time w/ motor - white impeller ring inside is shot. Is it time for an all-new pump? Thoughts?
Reply
Hi Frank, Yes based on what you have said I would suggest an entire new pump after 17 years some of the internal components of the pump may be worn down. If you want to replace with the exact same pump then you can get this Hayward Super II SP3015X20AZ or I'm a big fan of the PureLine Prime Variable Speed Pump this pump is great as it lets you dial your HP into any HP between .5 HP and 1.65 HP which will save you a ton on your electrical bill, typically 65% savings over a single speed pump.

I have a Hayward SuperPump Dual-Speed 2HP that is dying. I do NOT want a replacement with dual speed, we never use it - the pump is on a timer and stays in high speed always. The UST 1202 looks to fill the bill for me. I realize that the current motor bolts to the pump portion inside that plastic housing. (I have had this entire deal disassembled for impeller and seal replacement in the past.) And that the replacement motor will bolt to the housing on the outside - that's not an issue for me.
The UST1202 or Century 2.0 HP Round Flange 56J Up Rate Motor - B230SE can be used to replace the current 2.0THP Dual Speed. The Tune Up Kit Hayward Super Pump - GOKIT3 or GOKIT3SALT for salt pools is needed when replacing the motor. I noticed that the motor you said that i need doesn't have a run capacitor on top and my old one does. Does that matter? Will i have to wire it differently?
Reply
This will not be an issue, the new motor has an internal capacitor where the old motor had an external capacitor and they will be wired the same way.

This motor shows compatibly to my motor per the motor tag. However, the flange appears to be different. My motor flange has 6 bolts. This motor has 4 bolts. Will the 4 holes line up correctly and not use the other 2 bolts or is there another motor with the correct flange?
Hi Richard, yes the motor is mounted by 4 bolts and it is bolted to a plate that uses 6 bolts to attach to the rest of the pump housing. This is the correct single speed replacement motor for your motor UST1202. When replacing a pool motor we do suggest a Seal Kit. Hello Hugo, upgrading to a 2 HP single speed motor may or may not be wise as with the increased water pressure that could be to much for your filter and or plumbing design per the pools initial pool build specifications. However you would not need to consider or calculate those variables with a variable speed motor such as the model EVQ225. It is also much more energy efficient.
