Please note that capacitors store an electric charge and should be handled with the utmost caution and care. We do not encourage handling a capacitor without any type of safety measures in place and highly recommend contacting a professional service company for repair/replacement. For those that feel comfortable changing the capacitor here's >How to replace a pool pump capacitor. In order to match up the capacitor you will need more specifications on the capacitor. You will need to match the voltage, the MFD, whether or not the capacitor is a >run or >start type and the actual dimensions of the capacitor body.

I have a 2-speed Emerson spa motor and it won't start. Once you turn the shaft it will take off and run good. Is it the capacitor?

Hello Jerry - It sounds like it may be a start capacitor. You can use our troubleshooting guide to see if this is indeed the problem.

Hi, my pump currently has a A.O.Smith 628318-313 capacitor in it. Your site indicates that this part is a substitute part for it, can you confirm this part will fit my 628318-313 housing? Thanks.

Turned off circuit breakers at the pump and main fuse panel.
Removed back of motor by unscrewing 2 screws.
Touched both terminals at the same time with a screw driver to "short out" any remaining charge in the capacitor.
Used a pliers to detached the two leads to the capacitor terminals.
Note: Marked on the capacitor which lead went to each particular terminal.
Released the clamp that holds the capacitor in place.
Installed the new capacitor in the exact position of the one removed and connected the leads.
Replaced motor cover with the 2 screws.
Turned on the circuit breakers at the main electrical panel and at the pump.
Turned on motor and presto the motor and pump work perfect.
