How many hours per day should I run my pump?
Reply
There are many factors to consider; bather load, gallons of water, pump horsepower, type and size of filter just to name a few. A good guideline is 8-10 hours a day. On the cooler days and early and late season, you can cut the run time down to 4-6 hours because there is usually less swimmers and cooler water requires less chemicals. In peak season, when it is the hottest, raising the run time to 10-12 hours per day will help to keep the pool clean and circulating during it’s time of heaviest use.

I have an eighteen ft diameter, 4 ft deep above ground pool. Is the volt pattern the same as the haywood? Is this the best one for our pool? Is it better to get 1HP or 1.5HP? Thanks, for your help. Donna Hight
Reply
Hi Donna, This pump would be the same voltage as the Hayward above ground pool pump, this pump is an 115V pump and uses a standard 3-prong plug. For your pool I would suggest the 1.5 HP pump as this will ensure that you have a large enough pump to properly circulate your pool.

I have a 30 foot Above Ground Pool. My pump motor has gone out. It is a 1 HP but have had some tell me that I need to go at least 1&1/2 HP. Is this what I need to do? I run my pump 24 hours a day during summer months. All so do I need anything more than just the pump?
Reply
Hi Teresa, Yes for a 30' round above ground pool we would suggest a 1.5 HP pump. If you are just looking to replace your pump then this is all you would need. If you are looking for a pump and filter then I would suggest the 1.5 HP Pump with 19" Sand Filter.

Need to replace my above ground pool pump. Is your pump adaptable to discharge from the side instead of the top to the filter?

Hi, the discharge port can be rotated so that you have a horizontal discharge. To do this you will need to permanently remove the Pool Pump Mounting Flange Key #15.

I currently have a jacuzzi 1 1/2 h.p. pump for a 24' round pool. I got the pump second hand and I have no idea of it's age. It has been leaking from the drain plug which is stripped out. It has a different plug from where it goes into the outlet (a.c. plug). Can this pumps plug be adapted to that outlet?

If you are needing a drain plug for your pump, I need the pump model. If you do not know please attach a picture of the complete pump so I can identify it for you.

I have a 24 by 48 above ground pool and my jacuzzi laser sand filter system recently died will this be a good replacement for it pretty much Universal correct?
Reply
Hi Michael, Yes this pump would be sized properly for a 24' round, the ports are not going to line up exactly as your Jacuzzi pump. If your Jacuzzi pump has the discharge coming out of the top and you are using flexible hose from the filter to the pump then this pump should be good for you.

Hi Robin, In my experience the PureLine Pure Pro XL is every bit as good as the Sta-Rite Dynamo. The plumbing ports on the PureLin are not in the exact same spot so you may have a little re-plumbing.

I have a 24 x 52 above ground pool with a sand dollar filter (sd-40) I need to replace the pump and sand in the filter. I went to a local store to buy sand and she said if the filter required 150 lbs of said then I need to change the pump from 1 hp to 1 1/2 hp. It says on the tag a design flow rate of 40 gpm. Can you recommend a pump?
Reply
Hi, Joey B. A 150 lb sand filter does not require a 1.5 hp pump, you can use a smaller pump as long as it does not exceed the flow rate of the sand filter. I would recommend staying with a 1 hp pump, the PL1501 would be my recommendation.

I have a 16 x 32 above ground pool that has a waterway hi-flo 1.5hp pump system w/ a 120 cartridge filter also from waterway. I am looking to replace the pump only and want to move it to a location above the waterline and about 40' from the skimmer. I'll eventually move the skimmer when I replace the liner, but not at the moment so it needs to have a 40'-45' run to the skimmer. I have wiring for both 110 and 220. I am looking at this pump and maybe a VSP. recommendations?
Thanks so much!

Hello Kevin- We were just speaking and the phone call dropped. As long as you can verify that the filter can accept a minimum of 80 gpm and you do, in fact, have 230v you can use the PureLine Prime Variable Speed Pool Pump 1.65 HP - PL2605.

Hi, Cynthia. You can use a 3/4 hp or higher pump depending on where the equipment will be positioned from the pool, filter size, and the additional features that the pump will be used to operate like a heater, pool cleaner etc. If you can provide us with that info we can tell you what size pump you'll need. You can also reference our How To Select Above Ground Pool Pumps Guide.

Hi Mel, This pump would be very similar to the Turbo King but the plumbing ports are not in the exact same position. If you are using flexible hoses going to and from the pump then this should be pretty easy. If you are using hard plumbing then you may have some minor re-plumbing to do.

Hi Chad, Yes this would be a great pump for a 15'x 30' oval 48" deep above ground pool. If you wanted a pump and filter then I would suggest the PureLine PL1511 1 HP Pump and Sand Filter System another option if you wanted to purchase the filter separately would be the Hayward S180T Sand Filter.

Hello,
I have a 42,000 gallon inground pool. The deep end is 10' deep. I want to use the pump as a dedicated vacuum. Should I go with a 1 HP or 1.5 HP pump? Thank you.
Reply
Hi, Thomas, we suggest something like the 1.5 HP PureLine Prime Pump as you will need a self-priming pump. The PL1502 is a gravity fed pump typically used on above ground pools as the water is above the pump meaning that pump does not need to self-prime. However, for inground pools, the pump is normally at the same level or above the pool water and you will need a self-priming pump like the 1.5 HP PureLine Prime Pump.

Hi Roy, If you are looking for a 2 HP 2 Speed Pump then we would suggest something like the Waterway 2 HP 2 Speed Above Ground Pool Pump this PL1502 pump is a 1.5 HP Single Speed and we do not carry the PureLine Pure Pro XL in a 2 HP two speed.

I intend to use this in a trout pond for aeration and water flow. The pond is medium size. Will fit a hard pipe to the outflow and have the water shoot in the air and back into the pond. Will this work for that? Cheaper than a pond pump.
Reply
Hi Mike, This is a gravity fed pump so this pump would need to be placed below the water level. For example, on an above ground pool, the water is above the pump which allows the water to feed down to the pump. If your pump is going to be above the water level then I would suggest something like the PL1601 PureLine Pure Flow Pump.

Technically, the direct replacement is the model PD11506 but you can use this model also as a replacement. Just keep in mind that you may need to modify the connections because if you currently are using unions threading directly to the external part of the pump ports then those unions may not work.

I don't think I understand what you are saying about threading. so I would have to change the hose from my pool to my pump and from the pump to my filter? So sorry thought I added them. Please see attached photos
Hi Ricky, Thanks so much for the photos those are quite helpful! I would suggest both a pump and filter as if you just upgrade your pump then it will pumping more water than your filter can handle. For example, the new pump could output 60 Gallons Per Minute (GPM) and your current filter may only be designed to handle 30 GPM, this will cause additional stress on the pump and shortening its lifespan. My suggestion would be the PureLine PL1510 Pump and Sand Filter System however that system is scheduled to be shipping June 1st, so if you can wait that would be what we suggest for your pool.
Reply
Thanks Patrick, The pump/filter you suggested is a 1hp. I’m thinking of getting something that I may be able to use in the future. if I decide to pull the trigger on a fiberglass pool I’ve had my eye on. So my question is can a 1.5 hp pump be ok for my current size pool and can that handle a 16,000 gal pool (in the future)
Reply
Hi Ricky, the 1.5 HP Sand Filter System would be a bit of overkill for the Best Way pool but you could do it. The main problem would be that the pump on the PL15 series is a gravity fed pump meaning that the pump needs to be below the waterline of the pool. Most likely the fiberglass pool will be an inground pool meaning the pump will be above the waterline and you will need a Self Priming Pump like the PureLine PureFlow PL1601. If you go with the PL1601 pump then you would need to go with a filter like the Hayward S180T. If you go with this set up you would need to use rigid PVC which mean a bit of re-plumbing on our Best Way Pool.

I purchased the 1 hp pump and filter you recommended. I’m also looking into this Remington solar chlorine free sun shock system. I live in Miami, fl and the sun is sweltering and then the normal 2 hour rain storm really make it a pain to keep chemicals balanced. Do you think this system would work on my vinyl pool? I’m worried the copper it releases may damage the fabric. Like I stated in my first comment I am a beginner and maybe it’s a gimmick but looking for expert advise. Thank you
Reply
Hi Richard, I too have been concerned about introducing metal into the water causing staining. We have always found the best results by making sure your CYA, pH, and Chlorine are balanced. These are the most important items to monitor if you monitor these on a weekly basis and keep them in the proper range then maintaining your pool should be a breeze. This Video on How to Clear a Green Pool goes over a lot of good basics on water chemistry which you should find helpful.

Yes this pump is a replacment for the Eco Kleer pool pump but if you have hose connections that thread to the outside of your pump ports then you will need to use standard male threaded fittings for the ports and hose clamp your hoses to them.

My current Hayward pump is electrically hard wired to an electric box that runs underground to a power switch under my deck. My question is do you have a 1.5 HP pump that I can wire into this to replace the Hayward. I only see a corded option and I have no other power supply to that area.
Hi, Brian. You can remove the power cord and hard wire this pump.

I need to replace this Hayward 1.5hp pump that lasted 30 YEARS attached to a 27' above ground pool! Can i replace it with this this pump? I'm 65 so I don't need the new one to last 30 years. And of course I wouldn't be using the plastic base the the old one is attached to. Thanks!
Hi, John. Yes, you can use this pump with your existing filter.

I have a Hayward Power Flo LX SP1580x15 that has died. The company that installed our 27 foot round above ground pool no longer sells Hayward, but they have advised me if I purchase the PureLine 1.5 HP Above Ground Pool Pump - PL1502, the fittings that screw into the ports may not match exactly. Is that the case? I'm looking for a pump/ strainer basket that I can attach my current hoses to and plug in without having to call an electrician or plumber. Would the PureLine 1502 work for me?
Hi Julie, Yes this PureLine PL1502 Pure Pro XL would replace the Hayward Power Flo LX pump in your photo. We would suggest purchasing the hose adapters listed on this page which would allow your current hoses to connect with minimal difficulty.

I am replacing a Hayward powerflo matrix pump with a de filter. What fittings do I need to make the connections work.
Reply
Hi Mike, both pumps have 1.5" female and male ports. It looks like the Hayward Pump with a DE Filter has a Side Discharge but you can rotate the discharge on the PureLine PL1502 to be side discharge by following this Guide on Changing the PureLine Pure Pro XL to Side Discharge. You may also need to put some shims under the pump or filter so that the port on the PureLine Pump match up with the inlet port on your filter. Outside of these few modifications, everything would work just fine with this pump.

We are looking for sp 1510 z1 xehc -what is different from this one.
Hi Janet, The PureLine Pure Pro XL PL1502 is a 1.5 HP vs. the Hayward Matrix in your photo is a 1 HP so the Pureline will be more powerful. The plumbing ports on the pumps will not be in the exact same location but since you are using flexible hoses this should not be an issue. The warranty for the PureLine will be better in the sense that it still carries the full 1-year warranty if it is purchased online where Hayward limits there warranty if their pump is purchased online.

should the pump housing be loose from the pump? It is not tight, you can actually move it a little with your hand. It doesn't leak or

Will this pump be compatible as a replacement for the pentair dynamo 1.5 hp 340210?

Hi Rebecca, As far as power goes and the electrical cord this would be a great replacement for the the pentair dynamo 1.5 hp 340210. The plumbing ports on the pump are not in the exact location as the Dynamo so you may have a little bit of re-plumbing. If your filter is using flexible hoses between the pump and filter this should not be an issue.

Will this work for a 30 ft above ground pool with 54 " sides? Our current pump was 2 hp and quit working. I am thinking we probably could go with 1 1/2 hp from everything I have been reading.
Reply
Yes we suggest a 1-1/2 HP for a 30' Round Above Ground Pool and the PureLine Pure Pro XL would be a great option for you.
Reply
This is what our current pump says, what would be comparable, our pool is a 30 ft above ground with 54" sides.
The PL1502 would be comparable in power to the Aqua Pro Pump in your photo. The plumbing ports are not in the exact same spot so you may have a little re-plumbing.

Our Hayward pump just burned itself out. Is this model the correct replacement?
Turned my pump on and it turned on and sounds normal. It has on off switch 1.5 like those black ones picture. It is hooked up to a large sand filter. Thought all was good BUT put hand on suction intake hose and not much suction. Usually good suction/ when low suction I would backwash. The output hose is pushing out water but not as good as last year. Both holes have less power. Took off hoses, not clogged, but no change. Does this mean pump going out or broke or do I look for another issue?

Hi Daniel, You could not since in that scenario the pump would be above the water level and this pump is not a self-priming pump meaning it cannot pull water up to it. You could use the PL1601 PureLine Pure Flow Self Priming Pump and you could add this 115V 3 Prong Cord to that pump.

These two pumps differ in an important way; the Dynamo is self-priming, and the Pure Pro is not. This means if your pump is set above the pool's waterline then the Pure Pro XL would not be able to draw the water up and into the filter. If your pump is installed below the pool's waterline then it is a suitable replacement.

Hi Ashley, Yes this pump would be a suitable replacement.

My pump is still working well after many years of service. I'm looking for a replacement filter cover exactly as shown. Can the cover and O-ring be purchased separately?

Yes you may purchase the lid through this link - Pure Pro XL Lid and the O-ring through this link - Pure Pro XL Lid O-Ring

i need to replace SP1515Z1BC
Reply
Yes, this pump is a suitable replacement for a SP1515Z1BC depending on your filter you may have a little re-plumbing. If you are using a sand filter with hoses on an above ground pool then this should be easy and no re-plumbing.

I'm installing a 21 x 41 dog training pool. Our cartridge filter is rated at 525sft, could you recommend a suitable pump to achieve high flow and filtration. Thanks

We will need to know the GPM rating of the filter. If you can give us the manufacturer and the model of the current filter we can find something that will work with your filter system.

Is there a on/off switch on the motor?

Hello Paul, The Pureline 1.5HP Above Ground Pool Pump is not manufactured with an ON/OFF switch. For ON/OFF control the Above Ground Pool Timer models P1101 or P1121 would be compatible. how can I get the pump cover to lock

Hello Mary. If you are encountering an issue with the pump lid sealing, lubricate the pump lid o-ring with a silicone or Teflon based lubricant. If the issue persists replace the pump lid o-ring. The pump lid should hand tighten in a clockwise direction. Pool Pump Lid O-ring - PL1586

would this pump be a suitable replacement for a Jacuzzi Model S1B-6-S1 pool pump? The current pump motor has died and since this pump is 15 years old i was thinking total replacement instead of replacing the A.O.Smith 7-187610-21 motor.

Hello Calvin. The Pureline 1.5 HP Above Ground Pool Pump PL1502 would be a suitable replacement for the Jacuzzi Model S1B6S1 Above Ground Pool Pump. The increase in pump HP will improve water circulation in the pool. This change will likely require plumbing modifications.

Hello Joe. Attached please find a brief tutorial on the subject of Above Ground Pool Pump and Filter Systems. How To Size an Above Ground Pool Pump and Filter System In a cost/value analysis, the 2 systems that merit consideration are: Pentair Products EC-PNCC00750E1160 Above Ground Cartridge Filter System Clean & Clear® Aboveground Cartridge Filter System - EC-PNCC0075OE1160 and the Waterway ClearWater II Cartridge Filter System 522-5167-3S. The Waterway System is slightly oversized (1 1/2 HP pump with 150 sq ft filter) but it has dual-speed capability (lower energy consumption on low speed and better filtration) and is currently available at a reduced price.

Hi,
Will this replace our current pump.
Your pump is sold exclusively at Doughboy Pools. Unfortunately, they do not provide information about it to cross-reference. We offer Sizing Your Above Ground Pool Pump https://www.inyopools.com/blog/sizing-your-above-ground-pool-pump/ The MODEL # PL1502 is a gravity-fed pump, if your pool is submerged or partially submerged in the ground you cannot install it, it is not a self-priming pump like the 1.5 H.P In Ground Pool Pump - PL1601 https://www.inyopools.com/Products/00100018074613.htm
