I have a Pentair Intelliflo 3 HP VS pump. My pool is small- about 10,000 gals. I know my pump is overkill. What size DE Filer would be most compatible and efficient to use with this pump? 36, 48 or 60??
Reply
If you wanted the ability to run the Intelliflo pump at the highest speed which is roughly 3 HP then I would suggest the largest of these filters. On a standard pool set up the Pentair Intelliflo VS will be outputting 120 Gallons Per Minute (GPM) at the high speed, with this being said we would suggest a filter which can handle at least 120 GPM's. Out of the Pentair FNS DE filters you listed we would suggest the Pentair FNS Plus 60 Sq. Ft. Filter which would have a max flow rating of 120 GPM's. You would also need to get the Multiport Valve for the FNS filter which allows you to backwash or clean the filter.

What is the warranty on the Pentair Intelliflo 011018 pump?

Hello Arnold - Pentair offers a 3 year warranty if the pump is installed by a qualified installer and registered within 60 days. It carries a 60 day warranty if not installed by a qualified installer.

I have a new Pentair Inteliflo VS, a Pentair Intelichlor IC 60,( with the power center).
Must I have a control system, i.e. Intelitouch or Suntouch etc. in order to make these two items run in co-ordination with one another?
If not, how do I wire the two items so they are in sync?
Reply
Hello Michael - SInce the Inteliflo takes the place of a standard timer box, the only way to get these two to run in sync is with a controller system. Either the Intellitouch ( with assorted options ) or the Suntouch will do.

-- On page 31 of the operating manual it states that this pump requires 230vac +/-10%.
-- On page 3 it says that this pump is a 3 phase motor.
-- To the best of my recollection almost all residential homes are just 2 phase, and not 3 phase, so is this pump only used in commercial applications where 3 phase is typically available?
-- Lastly, what HP is this pump rated at?
Thanks!

Hello Bob - The 011018 Intelliflo is a single phase pump. This is a residential pump. Residential homes have single phase electricity. This pump is 3HP.

I currently have a STA-Rite Pump model P6EAA6F-206L 1.5 HP pump. It is starting to make a loud whining noise at start up. So I am thinking it is time to up grade. This is for residential. The pump I have has worked great for 8 years.
Are the connections any different between the old and this new model?
Am I correct, you want me to pay to have one pump removed and another installed to have a 3 yr warranty? If the connections are the same or similar, that's just a waste of my money.

Hi Brian, The Pentair Intelliflo pump listed on this page would not have the same plumbing port locatons as your Max E Pro pump. We do still carry the Max E Pro Pump so if you wanted an easy swap out of the pump then that may be the way to go. You also have the option of just replacing the motor and this would be the 1-1/2 HP Full Rate Max E Pro Replacement motor if you replace the motor you will also need a Max E Pro Tune Up Kit. The Intelliflo pump on this page is a variable speed pump which means you can dial the HP up or down on the pump to really save you a ton on your operational costs. I'm not sure about the warranty question as our warranty on any of these pumps is 1 year so you may have been speaking to Pentair directly on this.

All of the pictures I've seen of this pump show the controller oriented so that you have to be looking at the pump from the motor end. My equipment is enclosed by three walls, with the pump basket at the open front and the pump motor pointed towards the back wall. It seems like this would be difficult to program in this orientation. Can the controller be rotated 180 degrees for easier setting? (A Hayward VS pump controller can be removed and mounted on a wall.)

Hi Tom, The IntelliFlo Variable Speed controller can not be rotated or removed to be wall mounted, that's one con's of this pump. Otherwise this is a great pump.

Hi, The IntelliFlo Variable Speed (011018) will work with solar, the IntelliFlo Variable Speed w/ SVRS (011017) is the model that would not work with solar or in-floor cleaning systems.

Good afternoon David,The Intelliflo would be a great pump to upgrade to, as far as the sand filter, if you are not having any problems with your current filter I would just leave it be until something goes bad on it and you have to start replacing parts on it. According to the manufacturer's installation instructions for the Pentair Intelliflo, The pump is to be supplied through a residual current device (RCD) having a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA. The pump should be permanently connected to either a circuit breaker, 2-pole timer or 2-pole relay. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact Pentair at 1800-831-7133.

I can help you with this, just need a little information from you. In feet, how far is your pump away from your main drain that is at the bottom of the pool and what model filter do you have? I will need to know these things so I can figure the flow rate you need and to make sure your filter will be able to handle the flow rate that the variable speed pump puts out. If you don't know the model of your filter you can attach a picture of it and the label so I can identify it for you.

My local dealer is offering the Intelliflo VST 2 (011055). Is your model (011018) comparable? I've also seen two answers on warrantee, 60 days if a non pro installs, but is it either 2 or 3 years if a professional installs it? Lastly in calculating head pressure, is it the cumulative of all the lengths of pipe length from and to the pool or the average length? 30,000 gal pool, 1 1/2 in pipe, PENTAIR TA-60D sand filter, 3 input, ave 50' (main, skimmer, spa) 3 out (pool, spa, fountain) 9' rise.
Reply
In our experience there are very minimal difference between the 011055 and the 011018 pool pumps. Pentair came out with a program called Trade Grade which is a line of product that cannot be sold online, this program was established to protect the local brick and mortar retailers. Many times Pentair will make minor modifications to a product and market it with a new name and then put it in the Trade Grade program. Both motors are a Permanent Magnet Motor. Yes, it is a 60 day warranty if not installed by a professional and 3 year warranty if installed by professional. The feet of head is going to be the average of lengths from your skimmers and main drains to your pool pump so if the average is 50ft, you will not be able to run the IntelliFlo over 2500 RPM's without blowing that filter. So if you are wanting that pump you will need a new filter as well that can handle that flow rate that the IntelliFlo produces.

Thank Gijs, I would suggest the Hayward S244T 24 In. Sand Filter or if your pocket-book can afford it then the Hayward SP310T2 31 In. Sand Filter the larger filter has more overall filtering capacity which means longer time between back washing and longer life for your pump.

I was the told the IntelilFlow 3HP would solve my problem. This would take a lot of repiping. What would be a good solution.

Hi Randy, I would suggest the larger HP pump and I really like the Pureline Prime 2.7 HP Variable Speed Pump With either pump you decide to go with, we would suggest trying to plumb as much 2" pipe directly into the suction port as possible, even if you can't re-plumb all with 2", if you can get 12" to 18" of straight 2" pipe going directly into the pump that would help your priming issues. We have a good Video on Pipe Sizing and Priming Issues which you may find helpful.

Hello
I need some advice purchasing a new pool pump. We live in Vancouver, Washington. The pool is enclosed top and sides. Pool size 28'x15' rectangle, Avg. depth is about 5.5 feet. Approx. 17,325 gallons total. About 36.09 GPM.
I have gone through 2 Hayward Super Pumps in 16 years and from what I have been reading, Variable Speed pumps are the way to go.
I have been shopping the Pentair Superflo VS, Intelli flo and Hayward Eco Star VS.
Do you have any suggestions or recommendations?
Reply
Hi Scott, Thanks for the question! I really like the PureLine Prime PL2606 2.7 HP Variable Speed Pump it is a drop in replacement for the Super Pump so plumbing will be quite easy for you. The PureLine uses a Century/AO Smith Variable Speed Motor which is considered the top of the line pool motor. Please note that you will need 230v for any of these pumps with the exception of the Pentair SuperFlo Vs.

Is this pump a drop-in replacement for a Hayward Tristar pump (concerning the piping)?

Hi Robert, No the Intelliflo plumbing ports are not in the same spot as the TriStar. We do carry a TriStar Variable Speed Pump that would have the same plumbing port locations.

Yes, you can use an in-ground variable speed pool pump. You just want to be sure to use the max rpm setting on the variable speed as equal to the max flow rate that your system can have.

Hi, Mike. The Strainer Housing used with the WFDS-4 will fit this IntelliFlo Variable Speed Pump if the WFDS-4 pump was manufactured after 11/98.

how do i drain the pool it is pretty high
Reply
Hi. Draining the pool is based on what type of filtration system you have or how your pool is plumbed. If you have a Sand or DE filter you can turn the filter to the waste position to drain your pool. If you have a cartridge filter a separate waste port would have to be installed between the pump discharge and filter inlet.

This Intelliflo model does have 3 times the maximum horsepower of what you currently have but the pro to this is that you can always adjust the rpm setting lower hence not locked into using the higher strength. You can always look into a model like the PL2605 variable speed pump which has about a half of a horsepower more than what you currently have as well.

the Pentair 11018 scores 65 vs Hayward SP3202VSP with 90. Is it because the Pentair has a 3 HP motor vs. Hayward 1.8 HP?
My pump leaks nears motor with loud high pitch noise. Should I replace the pump/motor combo or just replace the motor only with an energy efficiency variable speed?

Hi, David. The total hp of the pump does determine how much energy it uses along with the operating schedule. If your original pump is more or close to 10 years old, I would recommend replacing the entire pump with a variable speed. If your original pump is less than 5 years, you can convert it to a variable speed pump using the ECM27SQU - V-Green motor along with the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT.

Hi - I have a an Aquatools 1.5 SPL (HP) (Model #AT2515000)single speed pump controlled by Pool Pilot Digital. Pump failed and needs to be replaced. Would this be a drop in replacement? If not, can you recommend one that is? Having trouble finding anything about the AquaTools Pump.
I have a 23K Inground, Freeform pool, Pentair System 3 Cartridge Filter, and Pentair Ultratemp heater. No features, 2 bottom drains, 1 skimmer, 2 returns. Head UNK.
Thanks

Moved into a house with older inground kidney shaped pool rough guess is 15,000 to 20,000 gallon. 34Lx14W shallow end is 4’, deep end is 7.5’ Currently there is a pentair 011512 3/4 mfg 1/2012 hp pump plumbed in. All 2” coming out of the ground to the system. According to the calculations i should have a 1.5hp pump
Would i benefit from this variable speed 011018 or just stick with what i have

Hi, Whisperflo user. Pump as sized using several different aspects of the pool. You may not benefit from using an IntelliFlo Pump based on the pump you currently have. You can use our How to Size a Pool Pump for Your In-Ground Pool, and Total Dynamic Head (TDH) Blog

I have a Pentair Intelliflow pump and am planning on running the pump 24/7 through the winter months. Can I program it to run two schedules: Running at approx. 2200 RPMs during the day and down to 1000 at night?
Reply
Hi. Yes, you can. Its all a matter of programming the pump.

Does the amperage drops proportionally with the speed selected on a variable speed pump. The pentair pump 011028 has a max amperage of 16 amps at speed 3450 rpm
Reply
Hi, Aquilino. The amps will drop as the RPM's is reduced.

Hi Darwin, you would need to use a Pentair automation control panel and a screen logic upgrade in order to control via wifi remote control.
