I recently changed my pool motor and gaskets. I made sure to lubricate all the gaskets with vaseline. A few days later water is leaking from the pump. What did I do wrong? Help please!!
Reply
You never want to use vaseline on any rubber gaskets or o-rings. Vaseline is petroleum based and will deteriorate the rubber quickly. Whenever you change the motor on a pool pump it is recommended that you replace the gaskets and shaft seal as well. A >Go-kit contains the shaft seal, packet of non-petroleum based lubricant and gaskets you will need for your pump. If you already have the gaskets, you can purchase >Magic Lube.

My pump is not priming even after cleaning impeller. Will purchasing this kit aid in fixing that problem?
Reply
The seal kit can help with loss of prime. I can't guarantee that it will solve your problem. The loss of prime could be from an air leak at the valves or plumbing in front of the pump.

my pool pump is doing what it is supposed to but it is making a high pitched sound. thank you rick.

Hello Rick - It sounds like the motor bearings are beginning to fail. The motor will eventually seize up and need to be replaced.

How do I tell if my pump is pre-1998 or 1998 to present? Thanks.
Reply
Bob, If you have the serial number for your pump you can call Pentair at 1.800.831.7133 and they can tell you when your pump is manufactured. You can also take the pump apart and look at your seal plate, if your seal plate has that copper insert you have the pre-1998 model.

I have a DURA-GLAS H/L Pump. Which Kit will work to replace all the seals?
Reply
Hi Gil, If your pump has a Copper Seal Insert you will need the Sta Rite Dura Glas & Max E Glas Pump Pre 1998 Tune Up Kit. If you it does not have one the Sta Rite Dura Glas & Max E Glas Pump 1998 To Present Tune Up Kit would be the correct kit.

I recently purchased a 5A kit for a Sta rite pump. The big black pump housing that the seal goes into... does the ceramic side of the seal go into the housing ? which side of the spring loaded part of the seal touches the ceramic one?
Reply
Steve,To get a better idea of how to install your shaft seal, we recommend you watch out how to guide video showing how to replace a pool motor shaft seal. It may not be your exact model pump, but it should be the same process for your pump.

I need to order a go kit for a Sta Rite Dura Glas pump. You have two kits available for pre 1998 and post 1998. How can I tell which one I need? Thank you.
Reply
Besides the age of the pump, there is no discernible way to determine which tune-up kit corresponds with your specific pump style.

We are not sure if our pump is pre 1998 or post 1998. Which kit would you try first? Is there much deference? Thank you!

I'd recommend giving Hayward a call at 908-355-7995 and provide them with the serial number so they can tell you if it's pre 1998 or post 1998.

The motor is a 1hp and now froze up, I would like to go to a 1.5hp dual speed with timer. What motor would you recommend? It is 230v.

I am looking for the tuneup kit for my Sta-Rite P4E6E-151L pump Type AUK.
Can you please tell me what the part number for that is?

purchased the gokit54 , was told on online chat here that was correct for my motor and pump. leaking everywhere, suggestions please...

The GOKIT54 is the correct seal kit if you have a Sta-Rite Dura-Glas so if it is leaking the housing o-ring or shaft seal was not installed properly or you do not have a Sta-Rite Dura-Glas.
Reply
I am in need of the shaft seal ONLY which is included in the GOKIT54. Is it available as an individual part and what is the ordering information if it is ??
Reply
Replaced the Duraglas pump motor and used this kit. The pump housing o-ring is a tubular type (hollow, like most o-rings). The original o-ring was solid rubber. The new o-ring was carefully installed one week ago with silicone lubricant. I now have a slow leak (one drop every 5 seconds). Shouldn't the kit include a solid gasket for the housing? And any ideas on stopping that leak?
Reply
Hi, Chris. I would recommend inspecting the o-ring again making sure it's seated correctly, lubricated and the clamp assembly is tightly secured.

Is the pump shaft seal included in the GoKit54 suitable for saltwater pools?
Reply
The shaft seal that comes in this kit is going to be the standard one that you can use or you can purchase the salt water version shaft seal separate. That part number would be 5250-200 for the pre 1998 series and 5250-210 for the newer series.

I have a spa sized "pool" and the filter system is not moving as much water as it used to. There is no leaking from the pump housing. The suction valve that determines flow from the bottom pool drain and the top strainer when changed from pulling water from both to one or the other doesn't change the outcome. The motor "runs." What are next steps?
Reply
Hi, Shaun. If you're getting low flow back to the pool then the issue cold be your filtration system if the pump is staying primed. You can get more in our How to Correct Low Water Pressure in Your Pool System guide.

I need a motor to replace my Maxeglas PE-5D-124L 1H94W aosmith K48K2PA105 uak.. What do you suggest and how do I know if it is pre or post 1998?
Reply
The replacement motor for your model motor is the UQC1102 and the pre 98 kit is used for the pump models that have the copper cone in the hole of the seal plate and the after 98 kits are made for the seal plates that do not have that copper cone.

recently purchased C1245 pump motor from you. What GOKIT do I need
GOKIT6 or GOKIT54?
Reply
Hello Duane, This is depending on if you have a copper cone located in the seal plate of your pump, if you do have a copper cone then you would want a GOKIT6 if you do not have a copper cone you would need the GOKIT54. If you are not sure, it is best to get the GOKIT54 then if you find out you do have the copper cone you can remove that cone and still use your GOKIT. Please watch this video on tune up kits.

I own a Sta Rite Maxi-Glass pump. The motor model is K48N2PA105, but the model number printed on a thin metal band is P4E6G-189L. Can you tell me which tune up kit to order from you?
Do you carry motor bearings for a Sta-Rite P2R 1HP?
Reply
Phil, due to the liability surrounding replacing motor bearings and other internal parts, the manufacturers do not give us the information to reference which bearings go with these individual motors. For that reason you will need to call them to see if they will offer this information; AO Smith can be reached by calling 866-877-5216. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I have a PE5D-181L pump with a 3/4 HP AO smith pump. The bearings on that pump are shot.
I want to replace the pump and have one in my shopping cart.
Can you verify this is the proper tune-up kit for my pump?
Thanks,

Hi, Dana. I'm unable to see what is in your cart, this tune up kit will work with your model pump.

hello, is this the correct kit for the following pump.
Hi Sean, yes this GOKIT54 is compatible with your Sta-Rite Dura-Glass/Max E Glass series pool pump. Please be sure to remove the copper insert in the seal plate if yours still has it in order for the shaft seal to fit.

I am replacing the motor on my sta-rite pump (picture attached). I currently have a Marathon IMpower motor that is on its last legs. Should I use this kit with my pump. There is no copper seal insert. Secondarily, since i am likely going with a variable speed motor, would the heavy duty shaft seal help with motor longevity over what is in the kit?
Hi Gary, yes this gokit would be correct for your model Sta-Rite DuraGlass pool pump. Please keep in mind that you may need to remove the copper cone insert that may be in the seal plate where the shaft seal goes. Also, a heavy-duty seal is more durable and for this series would be part number 5250-210.

My sta-rite pump is PE A5G-126, will this be compatible? I know I may have to take out the copper plate, but wanted to make sure that the kit is correct.
Additionally, what model exactly is PEA5G-126? Dura-glas or Max-E? Thank you!
Reply
Hi Kelly, the PEA5G-126L is a Sta-Rite Max-E-Glas pump, so this Tune Up Kit Sta-Rite Dura-Glas & Max-E-Glas Pump 1998 To Present - GOKIT54 will be perfect for your pump.

I have a sta-rite p2rA56 (or B) -124. It is mated to an A.O.Smith SQ1072 pump. Is Go kit 34 the correct parts kit for my setup? I’ve included a couple photos of the tags. Thanks in advance!
Hi Allan, your DuraGlas pump will need the GOKIT54. If you open it up and see a metal cup in the end (see #7 on this drawing here) you can discard it and put the white part of the shaft seal into the seal plate directly, as that part was not used after 1998. The rubber sleeve around the white ceramic ring ensures a snug fit.

Hello Paul, technically you can use this seal kit for your series pool pump. You would only need to remove the copper cone in the seal plate where the shaft seal sits if you have that cone there.
