Hi, Your pump is actually a 1 HP Full Rate Pump which is equivalent to a 1.5 HP uprate motor so you would need the PL2854 1.5 HP Up Rate Replacement Motor We do show where you purchased the 1 HP up rate motor would you like for us to bill your credit card the difference and ship out the 1.5 HP Up Rate Motor, also we would suggest this Super Flo Tune Up Kit when replacing your motor. Finally here is a Video on How to Replace a Pool Motor which you may find helpful when tackling this project. We will put your order on hold until we hear back from you on how you would like to proceed.

The 3/4 H.P Pool Motor Square Flange 56Y Up Rate (B852, B2852) and the 1 H.P Pool Motor Square Flange 56Y Up Rate - B853 are comparable motors. Please view our How To Understand True Pump Horsepower - Up Rated vs Full Rated guide. Hi, Thomas. You will need to test the capacitor using our How to Test a Pool Pump Capacitor. If the capacitor fails, then it will need to be replaced. If it's okay, then you can check the windings using our How To Use a Multimeter to Test a Pool Pump Motor - Winding Resistance. Your options for replacing the motor is this PL2853 (standard), B2853 (standard) or B2661 (energy efficient). You will also need the Super Flo Tune Up Kit - GOKIT78.

Can you tell me if this motor will work as a replacement for attached pic?
You will actually need the PL2854 1.5 HP Up Rated Replacement Motor as you current motor is a 1 HP Full Rated Motor which is equivalent to a 1.5 HP Up Rated motor. To explain this it easiest to show the math which I will do so here 1 HP Full Rate x 1.65 Service Factor = 1.65 True HP. 1.5 HP Up Rate x 1.15 Service Factor = True HP of 1.65

Is this the correct replacement pump motor (see attached photo). Also, can you tell me what is the correct tune-up kit.
Hi Joe, Yes this is the correct replacement motor for the B2853 motor in your photo. Could you confirm the make and model of your pump so we can suggest the proper tune up kit? Common pump names would be Pentair Whisperflo, Jandy Stealth, etc.. It looks like you may have a Whisperflo and if so the tune up kit is this Pentair Whisperflo Tune Up Kit.

You can use this PL2853 or the B2853 as single speed motor replacement options.

Hi Tony, Yes this PL2853 motor would be the proper replacement motor for your motor in the picture. When replacing your motor we would also suggest a Tune-Up Kit but to be able to suggest the proper Tune-Up Kit we would need a photograph your entire pump, a wide shot showing where the plumbing goes in and out of the pump. To send us photos simply click on the reply link below and upload your photos.

Hi Tony, No you don't need the complete pump. The humming is a bad capacitor in the motor and a motor replacement with Tune Up Kit will get you back up and running. Here is a Video on How to Replace a Pool Motor which should be helpful when you tackle this project. The only side note is that if you live in California you will need a variable speed motor if you live any other state than this single speed motor will be fine.

I have a .75 HP Pentair Whisperflow pump that is dying. I've never been satisfied with the suction on the skimmer furthest away from the pump and would like to replace my .75HP motor with a 1 HP motor. Besides having to upgrade the impeller would the rest of the pump housing be compatible?
Current motor: 071313 Current Empeller: 073127
Reply
Hi Chris, Since your current motor is a Full Rated 3/4 HP which has the same True HP as a 1 HP Uprated motor, this would mean you need to upgrade to a 1.5 HP Up-Rated Motor to see an increase in power for your pump. This would mean you would require the PL2854 1.5 HP Up Rated Replacement Motor and this 1.5 HP Up Rated / 1 HP Full Rated Whisper Flo Impeller and this Whisperflo Seal Kit. This would be all you need to upgrade the HP. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

What is the difference between the Pureline PL2853 (139.99) & the AO Smith B2853 (157.99) motors? I see one has a 2 yr warranty vs 1 yr on the other and there is a difference in amps. What does a lower amp rating, PL is 5.7/11.4 and the AOS is 6.6/13.2, mean in regards to operation of the motor?

Essentially they are the same motor style, the B2853 but made by two different manufacturers. The lower amp rating means it costs less to operate.

So that will really vary on maintenance, however, I would say on the average of about 15-20 years. If the housing isn't warped from heat, cracked or leaking then they can last a very long time.
