Will a gas heater operate at the low speed of a dual speed motor?
Reply
Probably not - Most gas heater will shut off at low GPM levels (20-40) to keep the heater cores from overheating - 20 for 200 BTUs, 40 for 400 BTUs. Depending on your pool system you might get these GPM levels at the low speed but generally these heaters must be run at the motor's high speed.

What is the difference between an Electronic and Millivolt ignition?
Reply
The basic answer is that Millivolt is the old style of ignition, using a standing pilot light. While the electronic ignition uses a spark start system like a gas grill. Electronic ignitions are more efficient in gas usage and also are better suited for high wind areas where a pilot light might get extinguished.

I am replacing an old Raypak 206k BTU heater and I need to know if this will fit on my concrete pad. Do you have the dimensions of the heater cabinet?
Reply
For the Raypak 206 BTU RP2100 Series the cabinet measures are as follows:Width - 20 inches, Depth - 28inches, Height - 38 inches.Any fuirther techinical data be found in the Raypak Specifications Guide

Please tell me what differences this model has in comparison to the Raypak 180 K BTU CuPru Nickel heater.
Reply
Hello LC - This heater has a copper heat exchanger and the 180K BTU has a cupro-nickel heat exchanger. The cupro-nickel is a more durable material. That is the only significant difference between the two models.

My house is at 5,600 feet elevation. Spa will be 550 gallons in-ground plaster/concrete.
Natural gas-240VAC. No jets. Does heater sense pressure and temperature? What pump should I get to match with this heater?
Reply
This heater does have a water pressure switch and has a thermostat, so it does sense both water flow and temperature. Since your house is at 5,600 you would need a Raypak High Elevation Heater. The 206,000 BTU Raypak heater has a minimum flow rating of 20 Gallons Per Minute (GPM) and a max flow rating of 120 GPM's. Based on these flow ratings any pump from 1/2 HP to 2 HP would work fine with this heater.

have a inground pool Grecian goes to 8ft deep end 37ft x16ft would this 206000btu work???

HI William, This 206,000 BTU unit can heat your pool, however I would recommend the Raypak Heater 266000 BTU NG ELE (009217). It heat your pool faster working less which will make the heater last longer.

I have never ordered something like this online. Have you ever delivered one of these units to a customer and for some slim chance this heater did not work or a problem with this unit not working. Just curious what the procedure would be if this happen. I know the chance of this happening is minimal. I'm going to be ordering soon and would like to know what to expect in case there was a problem. Thank you and have a great day.

Hi Gregory, We have had some cases in which you've explained. Once the unit is installed then that will fall under the manufacture warranty. The manufacture will work with the installer to resolve the issue if it's cause by a manufacture defect.

I have a 30'x12' inground pool. The pool goes from 3-6ft in depth. Currently I use a Natural Gas 181,000 BTU Pool heater. The product is a Raypak RP 2100 Mullivolt Plus. I am trying to order a new heater but do not want to change the size of the gas pipe or water connections. Is this the best solution for that? Is this the most efficient size?
Reply
Hi, Carlo. Yes, replacing your current RP2100 with a new RP2100 would minimize having to change plumbing and gas pipe connections. This is an electronic unit, not a millivolt so you would have to run power to this unit but is the smallest BTU unit available. The p/n for the millivolt unit is 009192.

Does the unit come with the "Pagoda" top or is that sold separately?

Hi, Alana. If you're referring to the square cover it does but the Indoor Stack Top - 009838 is sold separately.

Hi, Bridget. This 206K BTU can be used to heat your pool. If you would like to get more than a 1-degree temperature increase an hour, you can a larger BTU unit.

I just have had one of these fail with some kind of fire that has burned the wiring and cracked the heater manifold. I'm using a salt/chlorine generator system that has always been within expected ppm limits. Is there a problem using a salt system with this heater?

Hi, Scott. There is not a problem using this model with a saltwater pool. However, the cupro-nickel model 014938 is the recommended unit for pools with saltwater.

I have a Rayvac 2100 digital pool heater that has a leak. Is this something that can be repaired or do I need a new heater. Leak is coming from somewhere inside the heater. While pool is running, there is a steady dripping water leaking out. Who do I contact for help or what should I look for?

Hi, Pennee. Resolving the issue of a leaking heater could be as simple as replacing bad o-rings or as severe as replacing the entire heat exchanger. The unit will have to be inspected to determine the cause of the leak.

On breezy days the flame is frequently extinguished. Is there an easy fix for this?

Andrew, unfortunately, there is not an easy fix that we can suggest in most cases you have to reorient the heater unit. If you would like, maybe call RayPak and ask their technicians if they have a quick fix. They can be reached by calling 805.278.5300.

Thinking of buying the 206,000 btu heater. Natural gas meter is 85 to 100 feet from water heater. Pipe size is 1" Trac pipe. Is this gas pipe big enough to supply. We are replacing a 175,000 btu heater.
Reply
Hello,Thank you for contacting Inyo Pools. The longest gas line you can use with 1" and natural gas is 90 feet. If your piping is longer than this, you will need to go with a smaller heater or increase your gas line size.

I have a Raypak P-R406A-EN-C pool heater and want to replace it. We use the heater for SPA only. We live in California. Can Raypak P-R206A-EN-C be used to replace? What would be the specific model that we should look to replace the original 406 model? Just want to make sure we are able to use the existing gas and water pipe connections.
Reply
Hi, Vivek. Keeping the P-R406A-EN-C allows you to use the existing gas and water pipe connections. Replacing it with a smaller unit will require you to have to change the gas line size and regulate the meter.

Our pool is a vinyl 16x32 inground pool. We had a natural gas heater prior , it lasted about 7 years and we recently removed and got rid of it. Would this be a good fit for us.?

I am not sure what the total gallons is, I will need the average depth of the pool and the shape of it to calculate total gallons. An example; if this pool is 20,000 gallons the minimum BTU size to install is 167K BTUs. If you selected to order the 206K BTU for a 20K gallon pool it would take approximately, 1-hours and 10-minutes to raise the temperature by 1-degree. Can i control this heater through my Jandy board iaqualink 2.0?
Reply
The digital model heaters are equipped with the ability to work with external remote controls. The supplied 7-pin remote wiring connector supplies power out to either a toggle switch or the switch contacts of a third party remote. The remote works by either making or breaking the circuit created by the remote wiring. Typically, a remote does not supply power to the heater, it only provides a switching function to turn the heater On or Off. If your remote is suppling its own voltage to the heater, it will not work with this heater and may damage the digital circuit board

Hi Sherry, If you are below 2,000' in altitude then this Raypak 266,000 Natural Gas Heater w/ Heavy Duty Heat Exchanger would be a direct replacement, your heater has a heavy duty heat exchanger which lasts longer against pool chemicals. If you want the standard heat exchanger then you can go with this Raypak 266,000 Natural Gas Heater.

What is the difference between the Electronic and the Milivolt ignition?
Reply
Hello Stewart. Millivolt ignition systems ignite the burner(s) utilizing a standing pilot light and do not require external power. The Millivolt heater generates its own power with a small thermocouple driven by the constant pilot light. Electronic ignition systems ignite the burner(s) utilizing an electronic spark or hot surface. Electronic ignition heaters require external power 120VAC/240VAC to operate.

Hi, I purchased this heater in July of 2023. Noticed this am there is a humming/groaning sound coming from it. Any ideas on what it could be or a list of things maybe to go thhrough. The heater isnt even 2 years old thxs
Reply
Hi Shane, a humming/groaning sound is generally indicative of not enough water flow going through the heater. Check to be sure your valves are positioned properly and, if they are, check the unitherm governor (#25 on this page - located on the header) by removing it and putting it in a pan of hot water. Check for movement at 110 degrees. Replace it if it is inoperative.
