I recently changed my pool motor and gaskets. I made sure to lubricate all the gaskets with vaseline. A few days later water is leaking from the pump. What did I do wrong? Help please!!
Reply
You never want to use vaseline on any rubber gaskets or o-rings. Vaseline is petroleum based and will deteriorate the rubber quickly. Whenever you change the motor on a pool pump it is recommended that you replace the gaskets and shaft seal as well. A >Go-kit contains the shaft seal, packet of non-petroleum based lubricant and gaskets you will need for your pump. If you already have the gaskets, you can purchase >Magic Lube.

My pump is not priming even after cleaning impeller. Will purchasing this kit aid in fixing that problem?
Reply
The seal kit can help with loss of prime. I can't guarantee that it will solve your problem. The loss of prime could be from an air leak at the valves or plumbing in front of the pump.

I am looking for a seal kit for a Sta-Rite PE5D-124L pump. This pump has the copper insert that the seal sits in. Thanks Rit

Rit,If you have the PE5D-124L with the copper insert, the GOKIT6 would be the right kit.

How can I tell if the pump is pre 1998 if model number is not visible?
Reply
I am sorry, but the only way to tell is if your pump has this ( J32 ) insert or not. The pre-98 have it in place, the post-98 do not. The cone became unnecessary so Sta-rite made it no longer needed. The best solution is to order the Post-98 Go Kit and if you find you have the cone, simply remove it.

My Sta-Rite P2RA5E-124L this afternoon suddenly dropped its pump pressure from 11 PSI to 2 PSI. It is still pumping water but the volume is way down, a few air bubbles are present at the pool returns, all suction baskets have been cleaned and the sand filter backlashed. The pump sound is different but the motor seems fine. have owed his pool fro 38 years and have never seen this happen. What is your best guess as to the problem?

I've got a pool pump motor = Franklin P/N 1103675400 (2HP 220V). The pump housing has C03-137P on it. The Diffuser has a part number CI-200PA stamped on it. I'm not sure about the flow rate of this pump as I cannot see the P/N stamped on the impeller. I'm told that this is a Dura-Glas and it was installed in 1985. Not sure of model number (decal missing).
With the clues above, can you please tell me the GPM of this pump? Also, I would like to verify tune up kit is GOKIT6.
Thanks!
Reply
Hi, Craig. Unfortunately, we do not have the proper info needed to calculate the flow rate of your pump you have. You would need to calculate the feet of head of your pool using the steps in our How To Size a Pool Pump. Once you've calculated the feet of head of your pool you can use the performance curve on the Dura-Glas & Dura-Glas II Brochure key # D to determine the flow rate. I would recommend getting the 1998-Present Tune Up Kit GOKIT54 because it can be used with the pre-1998 by removing the seal insert.

Starbright SBP-100 fwl Low suction from pool. Filer.pump stored in a heated basement each winter. Originally purchased in 2004. Motor seems to running as it has in past years BUT Suction is not very strong this season. The filter basket front end of the pump was clogged with leaves in basket. Cleaned basket and checked hoses for additional debris. Suction is low ? Debris in impeller?

Hi, Francis. Debris in the impeller can lead to low water flow, also a clogged or dirty filter can lead to a reduced suction and water flow.

Hi, Alvaro. You only ordered the motor, there is no way to tell what tune up kit you'll need from the motor. You will need to provide the pump housing model # and serial number.
Reply
how do you find the date code?
Reply
Hi. Only if you have the original serial number you'll be able to confirm. However, you can also inspect the pump's seal for a Seal Insert - J3-2-50. If there is one you'll need to purchase GOKIT6 (Pre-1998) if there is not one then purchase GOKIT54 (Post-1998).

I would like to replace my pump motor (only) type B USQ1102, ser. 24113CH 1 hp. Which seal kit will I need to go with it? Also, is there an equivalent model which might offer better performance (greater suction, quieter, longer lasting, etc) which is worth the added cost to purchase?

We are unable to identify the tune-up kit by the motor model number. We will need the model number from the service tag on the pump housing. The pump housing is the part that the motor is mounted to by bolts or a clamp. If you need further assistance with locating the model number, you may email pictures of the pump to upload@inyopools.com The energy efficient single speed upgrade to the USQ1102 is the Energy Efficient A.O. Hi, You will require the Sta-Rite Dura Glas Tune-Up Kit. The Dura Glas has 2 tune-up kits one here which is the Dura Glas Tune Up Kit before 1998 and another one here which is the Dura Glas Tune Up Kit after 1998. We put together a Video on How to Determine if your Dura Glas Pump is before or after 1998 which should help you determine the proper tune-up kit you need.

Hi, Denis. To determine which seal kit you'll need, you will need to confirm if there is a Seal Insert in the center of the Seal Plate as shown as KEY # 7 on the Sta-Rite Dura-Glas and Max-E-Glas Parts Diagram. If you do not have one, purchase GOKIT54.

Can I use a ps-200 seal and leave off the copper insert, on a pre-1998 DuraMax P2R pump?
Reply
Hi Steve, we do not show Duramax pool pump however the P2R is Duraglas. For the Duragass series, the PSR200 shaft seal is used on the newer generation models without the copper cone. The pre 98 series will use the PSR100 seal that uses the copper cone. Could you send us a few photos of your pump and motor? Please take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation.

I have an original sta-rite pump with a failing Marathon imPower motor. Since the Marathon motor is now discontinued, I am considering the V-Green 1.65 HP Square Flange 48Y Variable Speed Motor - ECM16SQU. If it makes sense to continue to use the existing sta-rite pump, I want to do a tune-up when I replace the motor. I need to confirm which kit. Picture attached. Thanks
Hi. I think I have a pre-1998 pump but am not sure. Would you kindly look at the attached pics and advise whether I should be ordering the pre 98 GOKIT along with the PSR100 seal that uses the copper cone. Thanks!
Hi Lawrence, so in order to confirm the date of manufacture, you will either need to know the serial number of the pump or by seeing if the original seal plate has a cone insert where the shaft seal is installed. When in doubt, purchase the GOKIT54 which is the newer kit, and simply remove that cone insert in the seal plate.

The Sta-rite pump is 1996. So which seal a nd kit do I need?
Reply
Hello Darale. In order to identify the correct seal kit just a bit more information may be required. If the pump is a Sta-rite Dura-Glas or Sta-Rite Max-E-Glas manufactured in 1996, the GOKIT6 is compatible. The GOKIT54 can also be used by simply removing the copper cone insert from the seal plate. At times, working with the copper cone insert can be problematic. If you are unsure of the pump model please send a few photos of your pump and motor. Please take a close-up of the motor label and a wide photo of the complete pump including the pipes going in and out of the pump. Once received we can make the proper recommendation. The pump is 1996. The motor is newer as it was replaced a few years ago.
If the copper cone is still in the seal plate, GOKIT6 would be correct. However, there is a chance it was removed when the motor was replaced last time. My suggestion would be to get the GOKIT54. The GOKIT54 will work if there isn't a copper cone and if there is a copper cone, you can remove the cone and still use the shaft seal from the GOKIT54.

Hi Lola, the shaft seals are specific to the pumps and not the motors, and I can't find a cross-reference for the numbers you provided. Please send us pictures of your pump and any labels on it to upload@inyopools.com so we can be sure to recommend exactly what you need.
