What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

I'm trying to find a replacement motor for my pool pump but my model number doesn't match what you have listed as the model number. My model number begins with a C48 and yours begins with an SP. Please help.
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/18/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

What we have listed on our chart pages is the pump model number. The model number you have will just identify the motor. If you look on the plastic housing on the pump there should be a sticker which will have the pump model number. You can usually find this by the discharge port on the pump. Once you locate it you can choose the correct replacement motor. Be certain to change the shaft seal and gaskets as needed. You can use our >How to guide if you need help.

Will the AO Smith UCT1102 cost less to run than the UST1102?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/2/2013 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Yes, the UCT1102 will cost less to operate compared to the standard UST1102. Depending on how the motor is cared for, it should last several years. When replacing the motor, I would recommend buying a tune up kit based on your pump model and age.

I am looking to replace an ST1102 1HP motor on a Hayward Superflow pump. I think I would like to upgrade to variable speed for more energy effeciency. I see the STS1102 and UCT1102 and was wondering what the difference is? Also, it appears that I would need some additional parts, like a timer or special switch, is that correct? I also have to ensure that the replacement motor is the exact same length as the installer left me barely enough room to extract the motor. Thanks for your help!!!
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/27/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Wayne, The STS1102 is a dual speed replacement motor and the UCT1102 would be an energy-efficient single speed motor, neither of these would be a variable speed motor. Here is the link to the Variable Speed Motor for the Hayward Super Pump, the variable speed replacement motor does have a controller so no additional timer would be needed. We have Detailed Dimensions of the Hayward Super Pump Variable Speed Replacement Motor here, I would take a look at these dimensions to determine if this motor will work for you. We would also highly recommend a Hayward Super Pump Tune Up Kit when replacing your motor.

What other parts such as a new seal should also be installed when putting in a new pump
 Reply

A  Answered on 11/16/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

This will be dependant on the condition of the other parts. You may need to replace some of the other seals and gaskets as well. Usually we recommend to purchase the entire seal kit just in case they are needed. The kit type would be dependant on the model of the front pump housing. It would also be wise to inspect the impeller as well for any damage or cracks.

Hi Dale, This UCT1102 is not a replacement for your ST1102 Motor. Please click this link for the UCT1152 Energy Efficient Replacement Motor that you will require. Your ST1102 motor is a 1 HP full rate motor which is equivalent in power to the UCT1152 motor which is a 1.5 Up Rated Motor. The motor does not come with a shaft seal. I'm not sure which Hayward Pump you have so I can't make a suggestion on a seal, the most popular Hayward Pump is the Hayward Super Pump, if you have a Hayward Super Pump then you will need this Hayward Super Pump Shaft Seal.

Two green and one black. One green which is longer than the other I know is connected to the ground screw. Where do the other two wires go and which one is the hot wire (black or green). Also does this motor come pre-set at 230V and if not how do I change it from 110 to 230V.
