I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?

Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

Does this pump come with the motor also? I currently own this model but it's making lots of noise. Trying to decide if I want to attempt to rebuild the pump and replace the motor or buy a new unit.

Hello Shawn, The 011774 Whisperflo Pump 2 HP is a complete pump, which means it comes with the motor and strainer housing.

Hi Al, The Whisperflo pump does not come with unions, you will have to purchase them separately p/n 11201-0154. The unions can be used with 1-1/2" or 2" pipes.

What does full rate pump refer to verses this pump

Hello Randy, From the specs of the 011774 that is a 1.5hp full rate, even though it says 2hp, because a 1.5hp single speed has the Total Horsepower of 2.25hp. So this is a full rate pump.

What type of fitting is required and what is the thread style on a Pentair Whisperflo Model WFE-28 2 HP pump inlet pipe?

You will need two of these 2" Male Threaded x 2" Slip Unions the ports on this pump are 2" female and these unions will thread into the the female port.

Pros: Quiet operation, ships in one piece, previous pump/motor lasted 16 years. I got what I ordered.
Cons: Damage from shipping. No con's for the actual product.
This replaces an identical WhisperFlo which finally gave out after 16 years. The new one is working well but I was concerned I may have to file a claim after noticing damage from shipping. The plate at the back of the motor (away from the pump) was broken off as well as the pedestal. The box was well-padded on top but the shipment from Florida to Texas did not holdup very well on the bottom. Fortunately, the damage seems to be only on the motor end. The pump shows no damage. The pump is up and running quietly.

Cons: took 4 days to get here
This pump was the replacement for one of our two pool pumps, it went in with on problems and took right off. on problems. will look to you again when we replace the second pump.
