How do I know if I need to glue my new spider gasket into the valve housing. Also, what lubricant do I need to coat the gasket before assembling the valve housing? Please advise because I will need to know because my new spider seal will be here this Friday or Saturday and I want to reassemble properly!Reply

Figuring out if you need to glue the gasket is about as easy as checking your current spider gasket. First, open the valve, try to pull out the gasket. If the gasket doesn't move, then it is likely glued in. For models that aren't glued into place, the installer may have used sticky silicone lube to hold it in place, but it is not as strong as glue.Reply

I have bought a whole new top for my Hayward sand filter, so all of the gaskets are brand new. My filter is still leaking through my backwash. Also when I am backwashing I have to hold the handle down the entire time to get the large amount of water to come out like it is supposed to when backwashing, otherwise it just continues to slowly leak out like when the filter is running.Reply

The spider gasket is in the multiport valve, not the pump. The pump's gasket would not affect the water routing of the valve. You either need to replace the spider gasket or the spring/key seal assembly. You have to hold the handle because something is not sealing correctly in the valve compartment.Reply

The only way to figure out what the issue is is to open the valve to inspect the gaskets and the diverter stem assembly. The issue could be a bad diverter spring, an out of place washer, or jiggly handle. How To Maintain and Repair Your Multiport ValveReply

Is spider gasket on pentair SM-20-2 usually glued in when replacing it due to leaking?Reply
InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S. Posted: 10/23/2020
Yes, the SM20 should be glued into place; the preferred glue is the RTV Silicone 6558-0.Reply

No water coming out of our pool jets. We noticed a few leaks on skimmer side that we glued. There are bubbles in pool pump. It appears the plastic under backwash handle is cracked, would that be a cause or do you think we have a clogged line? Thank you in advance!Reply
InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F. Posted: 11/7/2019
Most often, the reason why you are getting air in the pool pump is due to an air suction leak. In this video called "How To Determine Why a Pool Pump Won't Prime" we discuss and show the ways to inspect and resolve these types of issues.Reply

The pentair multi valve is leaking alot. I have another gasket do I need to glue it? maybe clean it up when I replace it and also only has filter, waist, closed, backwash, recirculate and rinse? which positon do I put it in before unscrewingReply
InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S. Posted: 7/11/2019
Is the one you are replacing glued-in? If not, then you do not have to glue in the new one. It does not matter which position the handle is in before you removed the key-cover assembly.Reply

Have you closed your suction side diverter or ball valves to prevent backflow?Reply

Can you do this while its hooked up with water in filter?Reply
InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S. Posted: 5/6/2019
Yes, but make sure the pump is turned off at the breaker and that any shutoff valves are closed to prevent any surges of water.Reply

How often should you change a spider gasket on a multiport valve?Reply
InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M. Posted: 3/4/2019
Hello Justin - The spider gaskets can last a few years. It's usually time to replace it when water starts to drip from the backwash line when the valve is set on filter mode.Reply

I replaced my flow valve a couple years ago and didn't know they had changed the spider gasket. I had a spx710xd that I had a spare . The new one is a spo714c or spo714g11m they don't look the same as the old one will it work or what do I need? Couldn't find these new spider gasket at any outlets. HelpReply
InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S. Posted: 12/18/2018
Hello Clifford - First thing, if they do not look the same, then they wouldn't work. The gaskets would need to fit into the same grooves as the one it is replacing. The SP714T and the SP710 series uses two different spider gaskets. They are the SPX0714CA and the SPX0710XD, respectively.Reply

Matthew Posted: 8/14/2018
Hello George - this is an odd situation. A gasket should not fail that often, especially one as vital as the spider gasket. The couple of things that come to mind the gasket groove or diverter has a defect. But if the problem has persisted to a new valve, the likelihood of that being the cause falls greatly. Are you changing positions while the pump is running? This is a common mistake made by pool owners. The pump needs to be off when changing valve positions or the gasket can be dislodged or damaged.Reply

I replaced the gasket on my Hayward Multiport Valve (710XR50) multiple times and every time I need to either backwash or set to Waste the gasket gets Pinched/Damaged in the same area near the port for waste. I need to replace the gasket every time I move the valve. I also have replaced the "head of the valve" last year thinking this was the cause but trouble remains. Any ideas? ThanksReply

The SP1091Z number did not bring up anything for us. What is the model number of your Hayward filter?Reply
Anonymous Posted: 5/16/2018
I have a leak from the backwash "port". I can not longer read the SP number on the top of the filter. I did get SP1091z off of an imprint in the backwash port. What part number do I need for a new gasket? ThanksReply

Ed - The spider gasket for the SP0714 family of valves is no longer sold alone but is sold glued into the valve diffuser. To replace this gasket, you will need to purchase the Key/seal Assembly (Diffuser w/ Gasket Glued In) (spx0714ca).Reply

Hello, I need a spider gasket for a SP0714G11M. What is the correct replacement gasket? Thanks,Reply
Inyopools Posted: 2/14/2018
darlynne huddleston - There are several models of the Triton II Pac-Fab valve. I would have to have the model number of the valve to pinpoint the spider gasket. Your best bet might be to try to match the number of spokes and dimensions of your gasket to this spider gasket list.Reply

My filter is a Triton II . Pac-Fab...which gasket do I need. sent for one but it doesn't fit in size...Reply

http://www.inyopools.com/Products/07501352020282.htmAnonymous (SP0714 gasket) - Hayward no longer sells the spider gasket on a SP0714 by itself. To replace the gasket you must buy the Key/seal Assembly (Diffuser w/ Gasket Glued In) (spx0714ca). See our guide on "How to Replace a Hayward Key Seal Assembly".Reply

I have the Vari-Flo XL valve SP0714. Which gasket does it use?Reply
Inyopools Posted: 10/19/2017
Bill - Yes, that is a match for your model. And Since your model does not have a Winterize, you can use use any of the other positions when disassembling the valve. Just make sure it is assembled in the same position and lift it straight off when pulling it apart.Reply
Inyopools Posted: 10/13/2017
Ralph - If your gasket was not secured with glue, it may have rolled out of parts of its groove, causing the seals between the ports to leak. Pull the top of the valve off again and see if your gasket has moved out of the grooves. If so, check for any damage to the gasket, replace if necessary, then glue the gasket into the grooves as suggested in this guide.Reply
Ralph Posted: 10/9/2017
I replaced my gasket but forgot to put glue on it, is that the reason that even when in filter mood my filter is throwing water out like if it was in backwash? It even drained out my whole spa... anyone know if this is the issue or something else? Only time water stops coming out like if it was in back wash is if I close all the valves offReply
InyoPools Product Specialist Dennis R. Posted: 9/15/2017
DMG123 - As you probably know, some valves come with the spider gasket glued in solid. The only way to replace the gasket is to but the key assembly that holds them. When you say the gasket was completely melted, was it damaged or was the gasket just installed solidly? Was it deteriorated to the point where it leaked like the first one? If so, that is highly unusual, and I would talk to the company you bought the valve from.Reply
