I need to replace my the capacitor on my 1.5HP pool pump. Do you carry the capacitor I need?

Please note that capacitors store an electric charge and should be handled with the utmost caution and care. We do not encourage handling a capacitor without any type of safety measures in place and highly recommend contacting a professional service company for repair/replacement. For those that feel comfortable changing the capacitor here's >How to replace a pool pump capacitor. In order to match up the capacitor you will need more specifications on the capacitor. You will need to match the voltage, the MFD, whether or not the capacitor is a >run or >start type and the actual dimensions of the capacitor body.

The capacitor I'm replacing from a STA-Rite (model XP-1241 120 VAC) pump motor is labeled as such: 20UF/ 330VAC 50HZ. What is a comparable sized capacitor you sell?

Hi Sherry, This capacitor is the correct replacement base off the info you've provided. If the motor is more than 5 years old I would recommend that you replace the entire motor.

Hi, My 2 HP Hayward SPX1615Z1MNS Maxrate Motor will not start, I can hear humming noise. Could it be the run capacitor problem? Or run capacitor doesn't effect starting the motor?
Reply
Hi Val, The Run Capacitor does not affect the motor starting just it's running capability. This motor does not have a start switch either so the windings are bad so you will have to replace the entire motor.

Checked my pool yesterday and found that my capacitor had actual blown up. Is this as simple as just replacing it.

Yes, Replacing a capacitor is quite easy. You will want to correctly identify and purchase a replacement capacitor from the markings on the shell. Here is a great How to video available on our website, How To Replace a Pool Pump Capacitor.

I have a 2 speed pump motor (Starite Ultimax 1016174) that was running well until the run(?) capacitor "blew out the top" with burning smell. This would be the replacement one, But, it was attached to a relay-looking thing within the cap cover that has some plastic case melting--might still be good, rest of visible wiring looks fine. Do you sell the relay? What does it do? Thanks, GC

Hi, George. The replay allows the motor the go from high to low speed, if you provide us with the spec off of the replay we can see if we have that part.

i have a STA-RITE 2 speed pump. The motor is only running on low speed, after checking I found the capacitor is bad and has blown up leaking fluid. The capacitor is a Genteq 25uf 97f9606 50/60Hz 370VAC +6 -6% model #628318-307? I am having trouble locating a replacement that matches all serial numbers. Am I missing something or what part do I need?

Good afternoon Ronald, Is the capacitor located on top of the motor or in the back? If it is a silver capacitor located on top then this would be the correct partCapacitor, Run Rd 25-370 (17586325) - 628318-307

How can i check to see if my capacitor is bad?
Reply
Hello Scott, when a capacitor goes bad it hums to test this Use an analog or digital volt meter. Both work in essentially the same way and are both appropriate for the job. Set the meter to 1k ohms to begin the test. Touch the two terminals with your ohms meter test leads. The basic check involves touching the test leads twice and comparing the reaction. Touch the test leads to the terminals and then reverse them. The needle in your meter should swing to 0 ohms and swing back to infinity on an analog meter, and should display open line every time that you reverse on a digital meter. If it does, you've got a live capacitor and your problems are elsewhere. If there is no difference the capacitor is dead.

Would this be the correct RUN capacitor for a Century B668 (7-187400-20) motor? The capacitor that I am replacing is a CSC 628308-405 25.0uf +-6% 440VAC/B (picture included). Should I be concerned about the 440VAC vs 370VAC? I might have been running with the wrong capacitor for years.
Hi Rob, this is the correct replacement capacitor for your part number 628308-405. The original version is no longer available but this one can replace it.
