Do you think with 16x32 Pool ave depth 4.5 ft that 95 btu is going be big enough
Keep at 82degrees in Ky area we use May -Sept

Do you think this 95K btu is large enough to keep our uncovered 14x28 screened in pool with an average depth 4.5 ft at 88 degrees in Tampa, FL from May through October?
Reply
Dick - Raypak's Heat Pump Calculator shows that their 95K BTU heater would be able to maintain your pool at 88 degrees in Tampa from May to October with 1.5-2.5 MPH winds. You should be able to change some of the parameters yourself on this calculator.

I may be way off base here: I want to heat a pool that has never been heated before. Is there something I should consider prior to looking for pumps? I really want to this within a few weeks time.

When deciding what heat pump size to choose for your pool, you will need to determine the surface area of the pool. I also, recommend contacting a Certified Electrician and Certified Pool Technician for any fees involved to have the equipment installed. You will need to check the equipment area to ensure there is enough space for the heat pump and an equipment pad. It is best recommended to purchase a solar blanket or liquid solar blanket, to help prevent heat loss occurred during evaporation. Feel free to follow up with us, using our Support Ticket Email System to provide us more information about your swimming pool dimensions.

I have a 15 x 29 Fiberglass pool. I live in lower Alabama and thought this Raypak would do the job so we could swim most of the year.
Reply
This would do the job, But with Heat pumps they pull heat from the air so when temps drop below freezing this heater will not work and freezing temps are dangerous for the compressors. So yes this will extend swims, but when you get freezing weather this will not work.

Hi, we would like to heat our 12 x 24 foot, 52 inch deep above ground pool. It is installed semi inground. Tried solar panels, didnt work. Really want to keep pool warmer and extend swim time. We live on Long Island, NY. Pool gets sun and shade during course of day. We dont have natural gas and dont want to deal with propane. Would this heater get our pool to 82 overnight and maintain that temp throughout summer?
Thanks for your help

Yes, that heat pump would be a great way to get your water temperature to 82 degree and is a great way to maintain that temperature. As long as your pool pump is on it will regulate the water temperature and turn on and off when needed. Very energy efficient.

Would the 103k btu heat pump be ok for a 27' round above ground salt water pool in CT? It is almost 19k gallons. Can I have it delivered and hook it up myself?
Reply
I would recommend a larger unit.

The 103 BTU heat pump would work for heating this pool during the normal season, but you would want a larger unit if you plan on using the pool in the fringe season. You would want a qualified electrician to hook up the electrical.

We have a pool in its 2nd year of use and our Rheem heat pump freezes solid - both the fins and the tubing. While it is in this state the fan is not working and it makes an extremely loud buzzing noise. Our pool builder said this is normal this time of year. I was under the impression there were defrost cycles to prevent this. Who is correct?

Hello Susan. An important question to investigate when considering a Heat Pump is the length of time a given size (BTU) Heat Pump will take to reach the desired pool water temperature. Based on the information provided, the volume of your pool is approx. 21,870 gallons. Attached please find a brief tutorial on the topic of pool heating. Please refer to the paragraph titled Calculating Heat Run Time. By inserting various Heat Pump sizes (BTUs) and desired temperature rise into the formula, an approximation of the time it takes can be calculated. Time to Heat a Pool A balance can be struck between the capital investment in the Heat Pump and the Heat Pump's Temperature Rise Performance. Raypak Heat Pump

Hello Yosvany. The Raypak Classic Series 103,000 BTU Heat Pump model R5450TI-E would meet the pool heating demands for year-round swimming in the Florida climate. Conventional Wisdom would state that bigger is better when sizing a heater or heat pump. The Raypak Classic series 103,000 BTU rating would provide an efficient/effective means to heat your 13,500-gallon pool (based on measurements provided). We have a 27x54 above ground pool in indiana. Holds 17,500 gal of water. Would like temp around 85-87. Would this heat pump work for this? Also how long does it take to reach desired temperature?
Reply
Your pool has about 600 square feet of surface area; this chart shows you that you can expect about a .5 degree increase in temperature per hour of running a heater with 103,000 BTUs. I think you would want something much larger for your location in the midwest. View our guide on How to Select an Above Ground Pool Heater to help you out, and don't forget to get a solar blanket to help keep the heat in when the pool is not in use.
