Will a gas heater operate at the low speed of a dual speed motor?
Reply
Probably not - Most gas heater will shut off at low GPM levels (20-40) to keep the heater cores from overheating - 20 for 200 BTUs, 40 for 400 BTUs. Depending on your pool system you might get these GPM levels at the low speed but generally these heaters must be run at the motor's high speed.

What is the difference between an Electronic and Millivolt ignition?
Reply
The basic answer is that Millivolt is the old style of ignition, using a standing pilot light. While the electronic ignition uses a spark start system like a gas grill. Electronic ignitions are more efficient in gas usage and also are better suited for high wind areas where a pilot light might get extinguished.

The Raypak 2100 unit I currently have, has a "pool" and a "spa" switch. Is this the same type of deal on Raypak model 010104, but digital? Can you heat both together, or only separately, or both?
Reply
Yes, this heater will do the same job as your existing heater. Instead of two dials for spa and pool, the digital board will control both. You can set one temperature for the spa and one for the pool. You can also keep both bodies at the same temperature.

I'm looking for a pool heater and I see one at kijiji but is already 4 years old is it worth to buy it?
Reply
Mario, I'm not sure what kind of Heater you saw at Kijiji and what price but with it being 4 years old it's not coming with any warranty, so that's a call only you can make.

I have a spa only and a raypak spa/pool unit. Can I heat the spa when it is on the pool mode and will the spa heat any faster on the pool mode vs. the spa mode?
Reply
Hi, Since you only have a spa it does not matter what mode it's in. The heater will not heat faster in a specific mode. The Pool/Spa mode is for applications that has a pool/spa and wants each body of water heated to a different temperature.

Just want to confirm that this is a natural gas, electronic spark ignition heater with the cupro nickel heat exchanger.
Reply
Hi Jim, This unit is a natural gas, electronic ignition with a cupro-nickel heat exchanger.

I will need to run about 250 feet of a natural gas line for this installation. Are there any recommendations and/or limitation to consider? Size of line, etc.
Reply
HI Bernie, Please refer to the Raypak RP2100 Installation and Instruction Manual for all installation requirement. You will also need to contact your gas company and a authorized Raypak installer for installation recommendations.

Is the 336K appropriate for a 16x32 inground pool? Also what is the size of this heater as I cannot seem to find.

Yes a 336K would be a good choice for a 16x32 inground pool, here you can see The Dimensions of a Raypak Heater

Is there any harm in over sizing your heater to your pool size?
Reply
Hi, Bob. No there is no harm in oversizing the hearer on your pool. The larger the unit, the faster it will heat your pool, the less it will run. That translates into energy savings for you.

Do you have a draft hood kit available for the R336A so i can install it indoors. If not, what about using the power vent kit and what is the cost for that?
Reply
The item you will need will be the Indoor Stack Kit, R336A, R367A - 009840 our part number 6238-122

I am replacing the same unit that is approximately 10 years old. My current unit has the piping coming out of the left (from the front) side of the unit. Is that an option on this unit?
Thanks.

Hi, Thomas. These units all come with the inlet/outlet assembly on the right. it can be changed to the left, however, that process will have to be done by an authorized professional.

what is the difference on Raypak Heater 336,000 BTU's NG ELE W/ Cupro-Nickel Heat Exchanger and Raypak Heater 336 BTU NG ELE
Reply
Cupro-nickel is an alloy of copper that contains nickel and other strengthening elements. Because of this, it is highly resistant to corrosion in salt water. Pool heaters with a cupro-nickel heat exchanger are recommended for customers with a salt pool. Using one with a cupro-nickel heat exchanger will extend the life of your heater.

Is there a benefit with cupro-nickel heat exchanger when used in a chlorine pool in lieu of salt pool?

Hi, Kyle. The cupro-nickel exchanger can still outlast the copper exchanger because of the material.

I'm replacing a P-R335B-EN from about 15 years ago. What model should I be looking at if I want the same output without all the bells and whistles? Thank you for your help

Hi, Daniel. This P-R336A-EN-X or the P-R336A-EN-C models are suitable replacements. The P-R336A-EN-X has a Cupro-Nickel and the P-R336A-EN-C has a Copper Finned heat exchanger.

does this have the protek shield on it. I did not see it listed in the features.

Hello, this model series does not have the Protek shield. You can however add a zinc sacrificial anode that would serve the same purpose.

My pool heater just blew its thermostat out with water flowing. Its a PR-405AL-EN. What should it be replaced with? I am in Calif. We have solar and its salt water and natural gas.

So we have a 20 by 40ft , about 2/3 from 4 to 6ft, and one third 8ft deep. It is chlorine system, but looking to convert to salt very soon.
We are looking to install a natural gas heater. Considering a Raypack. What size and model would you recommend.
Reply
Hello Armando, based on the information we would recommend either a 336-406 unit. We would also recommend you check with the installer or gas company to insure that your feed would be able to meet the demand needed by these units.

I have an inground pool in Michigan that is 20 x 38 x 6. I figure 34,200 gallons. I am looking at a Raypack "P-R366A-EN-X-#51. cupro nickle. Would this be a correct heater?
Reply
Hi Mark, your pool has 760 square feet of surface area so, per our article on How to Select an Inground Pool Heater, you can expect about a 1.2 degree per hour temperature rise with the 336,000 BTU heater. This might be adequate if you are looking to extend your pool season a bit. Be sure to put a solar cover on it at night and when the heater is not operating to help keep the heat from escaping in the cool Midwestern evenings.
