I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?
Reply
Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

I HAD THE POOL PUT IN 1994. I HAVE REPLACED THE PUMP MOTOR IN THE PAST, BUT NOT THE PUMP. THE PUMP IS MODEL WFE-8, SERVICE FACTOR 1.30, 2 HP, SN 0892170, WHISPERFLO. THE MOTOR IS BEGINNING TO FREEZE INTERMITTENTLY. WHICH MOTOR DO I CHOOSE? DO I NEED TO REPLACE THE PUMP OR PARTS IN IT? IS THERE A REBUILD KIT?
Reply
Hello Tom - The correct replacement motor is model B843. The only parts you should need to replace are the seals. The seal kit for standard chlorine pools is part number GOKIT32. The seal kit for salt pools is GOKIT32SALT.

What is the maximum flow rate (GPM) for a WhisperFlo WFE-8 (2HP)?
Reply
Mary, It depends on how much resistance is on the pump, but base on 40ft of head or resistance this pump can generate about 135 GPM.

what's the average flow rate of a 2 HP Whiperflow pool pump?
Reply
Hi, To determine the flow rate you would first need to calculate the total feet of head of your pool. You can follow the steps in out How To: Size a Pool Pump guide for instructions. Once you've calculated the TFH you will have to use the Whisperflo Performance Curve Chart to find out the flow rate based on the TFH of your pool.

The housing on my pump started leaking. Is there any way to repair the pump housing or does it need to be replaced?
Reply
Hi Rip, You can repair the pump housing using epoxy base compounds to fix small cracks in you pump housing, however it would not hold up for long. You will need to eventually replace it.

I have Pentair 2 hp 011515 pump that started making noise. What bearings do I need?
Reply
Hi Milt, The motor for this pump will use the two of 203 Bearing (62032RS), one on the shaft end and one on the opposite shaft end. I would also recommend that you get the Pentair/Purex Whisperflo Tune Up Kit (GOKIT32) or GOKIT32SALT if you have a saltwater pool.

I have a Whisperflo pump circa 1999. The info I have indicates: WFE-8, 2Hp, 11-10.2 amps, 208-230 V, RPM 3450, Y56Y. It is installed about 20 feet from the pool with 2 inch piping.
Can you tell me how many watts are used per hour of operation?
Thank you
Charles

Unfortunately, I don't have any information on watts per hour. If you contact Pentair, 800-831-7133, they might have that information for you.

I have a bad wfe-6 1.5HP motor. can I replace the motor with a wfe-8 2HP motor or must I use the wfe-6 replacement motor
Reply
Hi, Joe. I would not recommend that you use the WFE-8 replacement motor unless you can ensure that your system can handle the additional water flow. You can use the steps and info in our How To: Size a Pool Pump and How To: Size a Pool Filter guides to determine if upgrading the pump will be in your best interest.

Is the pump motor attached the 7-177452-03 or the replacement B843, B2843 Y56 version? I have the WFE-8 but want the same size motor.

Hi Matt, The B2843 is the correct replacement motor for the 7-177452-03 motor that operates the WFE-8 pump. You will also need the Pentair Whisperflo Tune Up Kit GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT.

Hello-We need to replace a motor on our WhisperFlo 2HP -model WFE-8 C
serial number 0595-007.
On the motor it looks like B843 (it's faded a bit)
RPM 3450 FR Y56Y HZ 60
serial number BN6-293
At the top of the motor it looks like the words Magnetek and Century Centurion. The pump was originally installed in 1995. We have replaced seals before but never the motor. I live in Northern California and in the summer months the pump runs 6-7 hours. Thanks!

I just installed a WFE-8 how does the two speed work
Reply
Hello, There is normally a switch or wiring that you do for low or high speed. If you want to use the full capacity of the dual speed then you operate on high speed, when you are not wanting to use the full capacity you switch or wire for low speed which will run at half the speed.

my pump has stopped working, motor is hot. The pump has water in it. I am assuming I at the least need a new motor. How do I know if I need a new pump? Its a WFE-8 C pump with a motor B2843. I believe these were purchased in 2000.
Reply
If your pump housing is not cracked then you would need to purchase the replacement motor and seal kit.

I have a Pentair WFE-8 pump that is 17 years old. What is a good replacement for this pump? It is controlled by a Jandy RS4 controller. I have been told that the controller would need to be upgraded to handle a variable speed pump.
Reply
Hi, Louis. You can use this Pentair Whisperflo - WFE-8/011515 or the Jandy E-Pump - JEP2.0. Your Aqualink RS controller must have Rev O or later in order to be compatible with the JEP2.0 variable speed pump.

Do I need to replace the whisperflo when I replace the motor? Motor is screaming but not sure if i need to replace the whole unit.
Reply
Most commonly homeowners replace the motor and the seals. For your model, it would be the GOKIT32 if you have a chlorine pool or a GOKIT32SALT if you have a saltwater pool. If the housing is not terribly damaged or leaking then you may not need to replace the entire unit.

That motor used is used on the Superflo series so I believe the model you meant to mention is the 340040. If you are looking to replace the entire pump then we would recommend the Pureline Prime model PL2603. Also your replacement motor is the model B859.

Hi,
I have a 3hp whisperflo pump for my jets on my hot tub with about 40 feet of head. I want to increase the flow of my jets. Can I change impellors or do I need to go with more horse power?
Thanks in advance.

Hi. Michael. Typically you will have to change the motor, impeller, seals and or the diffuser. In this case since there is nothing higher than a 3 hp, you will have to replace the entire pump that will be adequate for you.

I have a Pentair WFE-8. Once the motor is running, it works no problem. However, it won't start on its own. I've been told there may be a faulty capacitor which stops the motor from getting the initial starting push. Is there a kit to replace the capacitor, or do I need to buy a whole new pump ($$$)?
