The only piece of equipment necessary for installation is the purchase of a valve. The valve options for the Quad D.E. Filter are listed by port size, measure your pipes to determine the best fit for you. 261173 - 1.5" Threaded Multiport Valve 261055 - 2" Threaded Multiport Valve

Which type of pool filter is the most water efficient ? Living in the drought stricken State of California , this has become a necessary consideration. Please include backwash requirements and monthly or annual maintenance.

The larger type of D.E. filters used equals the less you will need to backwash decreasing the use of water. Also, the model of the pump will decipher the energy efficiency of the motor. Less amps drawn to function equals less electricity used. In the end, having a larger filter of any model per what the pump and pool system require will be more efficient as you increase the filter square footage.

I currently have a Nautilus stainless steel tank model NS36, Serial no. 0190-805. My pool is an in-ground 24,000 gal. with dive well. Will this new unit replace and match up exactly to the current multi port valve now attached to this tank?
Does it require more or less horizontal space than the NS36 steel unit I have?
Can I just get the interior parts and keep the same stainless tank?

Hi, This unit is sufficient for a 24,000 gallon pool. However, it will not match up or use the the same valve as the NS36 filter. This unit is about 4" wider then the NS filter. You can replace the NS36 Grid Assy - 192325.

Just bought Pentair Filter #188593 would not make water clear? opened up system and found all 4 filers blown apart what did I do wrong?

Hi Benny, When the unit was installed the inlet port may have been plumbed as the outlet and vice versa. Recheck how the filter is plumbed.

What is the best valve or multiports valve for the Pentair Quad Cartridge / DE Filter 80 - 188593 ? I am looking for a valve with the least hassle.

Hi, Rick. You can use one of the following valves, a. P/N 261055 - 2” Multiport Valve Kit, b. P/N 261173 - 1½” Multiport Valve Kit c. P/N 261050 - 2” HiFlow Valve Kit, d. P/N 263034 - 2” ABS Slide Valve Kit. The ABS Slide Valve Kit 2" - 263034 will provide you with the simplest operation.

Would these multi-port valves cause damage to the cartridge filters? Two of the vendors wouldn't recommended because, according to them, it will cause the cartridge filters to burst and tear. They said, unless I lower the speed of the pump every time I do a backwash. Then I should be fine. On youtube, I see so many people used a backwash valve or multi port valve with no issue. I am confused !! Would you be able to shed some light on this?

Hi, Thanh. The use of a slide or multiport valve is optional with this model filter and is recommended by the manufacturer. I have not heard of that issue happening with the use of a valve. The use of a slide or multiport valve will cut your cleaning time by more than 70%.

i have a 32k gal pool and a pentair 3.0 hp pump. i was looking at replacing the filter since it's old and the one thing that i have not replaced. i was looking into Pentair's Quad D.E. 60, but read that i may actually need the Quad-80. is this true? what would be more energy efficient? the way i see this is, if i have a bigger filter, it will require less operational time than a smaller unit saving $$.
BTW, i have 2" plumbing (maybe 2.5"). Currently have a Hayward 48sq filter.

Hi Edgar, Yes based on the size of your pump we would suggest this larger Quad 80 Filter. For most circumstances, a 3 HP pool pump will be outputting around 140 GPM's and the Quad 80 can handle up to 160 GPM's. The Quad 60 can handle 120 GPM's which would be less ability than the output of your 3 HP pump. In theory, you could run the pump shorter as there is more filtering capacity with the larger filter. If you really wanted to see an energy savings then if you switched to a variable speed pump like this Waterway 2.7 HP Variable Speed Pool Pump then you could see a savings of up to 70% on the operational cost of your pool pump.

I need to replace my stainless steel pentair nsp72 184945 tank, will the 80 line up the same as the nsp72 since the 184945 doesn't seem to exist. I don't want to have to "replumb".

Unfortunately, you will not be able to avoid replumbing your system when replacing the old filter. The NSP and the Quad series use different valves; and also have different port heights.
