The manual says that a diverter valve can be installed for vacuuming to waste during heavy spring clean up or pulling rain water out of the pool. Where would it be installed? Do you sell this valve?
Reply
Yes we do carry this diverter valve which you may view or purchase through this link http://www.inyopools.com/Products/07501352023400.htm This valve has 3 ports on it, the valve would screw into the disharge side of your pump and you can have the handle turned so the return water goes through your filter or you can turn the valve in the opposite direction so the dirty water goes to waste and bypasses your filter, this is very helpful when vacuuming or for heavy spring clean up.

Why buy a more expensive Hayward de pool Filter if this one says in ground all types all sizes EC40a or ex 50a
Reply
Warren, You would have to match the filter size with your pump GPM. That's how you determine what size filter to get, the bigger the filter the better.

Is the 20ft good enough for a 24ft rd 4ft pool or am i pushing it. Would I be running the pump constantly. i'm guessing there are 9 to 10 thousands gallons in pool.

Hi Pete, I would suggest going up to the 25 Sq. Ft. EC50AC Hayward Perflex Filter for a 24' round pool. This will put less strain on your pump and means longer time between cleaning your filter.

I just opened my pool. I have a hayward DE earth filter. The pool is pretty clean but the filter runs only a few minutes and loses pressure, I bump it and only a few minutes it loses pressure. Do the fingers need to be cleaned or replaced? It is an old filter with a new motor, and I clean it out every year. What should I do? Thanks
Reply
Hello Brian - If the pool water is clear and the pressure rises on the pressure gauge quickly, the fingers will need to be cleaned or replaced. If the water is cloudy and the pressure on the gauge rises quickly, this is normal. You may have to backwash several times a day until the water is clear. If the pressure on the gauge is dropping, you may have an air leak. Check out our guide on how to correct air leaks.

I have a Hayward DE filter model EC45 2 yrs. ago changed motor last year the filter housing cover just put it altogether started it filtering and noticed water coming threw bump handle shaft is there gaskets for that also if i change that should i change the housing gasket

I would suggest the Hayward Perflex Bump Handle Gasket Kit if you are just getting leaking out of the handle then this kit should be all you need.

I have model EC-50. Its pretty old and when I back washed I noticed what looks like pieces of the fingers coming out of the port. Can I just replace the fingers or is it time for a new filter? If i can replace the fingers what is the part number and where can i buy it?
Reply
Hi Ray, You would need the EC50 DE Fingers, considering the fact that the complete EC50AC Perflex DE filter is less expensive then replacing the EC50 DE Fingers then I would go with the complete new EC50AC filter.

Hi my pool size is 15x26 WXL with a 1 HP pump which model filter should I get. My pool is rectangular
Reply
Hi Robert, If your pool is an above ground pool then this EC40AC filter would pair nicely with your 1 HP pump. If you have an inground pool then I would suggest going with the larger EC65 Perflex Filter.

Hi Can you tell me what would cause the filter to leak on both sides? where the top & bottom are joined with that black collar...we've tightened them & the leak gets even worse....I even put pool lube all around the top nothing seems to help...we have taken it apart several times it seems to be fine with no leaks until we turn the pump on & then there's a steady stream of water running down both sides....Thank You in advance

I would check the gasket which goes between the top half and bottom half of the filter, if you see any imperfections in the gasket then it may be time to replace the gasket.
Reply
Hi Patrick,Thank You for getting back with me so quickly. Although you said in our previous conversation that our gasket may need to be replaced due to the leaking around the seal when we connect the top of our filter to the bottom....we have a D.E.filter model# EC40C92S and there isn't a gasket between the top & bottom, the two pieces just butt together. Do you have another idea for this model ?? Again Thank~You in advance. (serial # 21120811002628006)

Hi June, You should have this EC40 Body Gasket between the top and bottom of your filter. This gasket is depicted as key #12 on the EC40 Perflex Parts Diagram. If you do not have this gasket installed then this would be your problem. If your do have this gasket then I would inspect the gasket to see if there are any imperfections in it.

I have had this Hayward bump filter for 15 years, it's the one that has all the fingers down inside, I had a very low ph, I started adding ph+ and right away my filter started plugging up, I cleaned it in acid and water for 3 hrs, started back up, flow was good for about 45 mins. Do you have a suggestion?
Reply
Thomas, Did you clean the fingers with a product like TSP before acid washing? If not, dirt and oil can be sealed inside of the cloth covering the fingers. Another possible cause for what you've described is particles in the water (cloudy water).

After the filter runs for 4 to 5 hours it leaks heavily from where the top seals. if you turn it off and back on it takes several hours to leak again. filter is 3 years old

We would suggest replacing the EC40AC Body Gasket (Key #12) and / or the Bump Shaft Kit (Key #13). Both items can be seen on the EC40AC Perflex Filter Parts Diagram.

Where can I get TSP, do pool suppliers carry it?
Reply
The easiest bet would be to purchase it online. You can Purchase TSP Powder Online here.

Will the ec40 be large enough for a 32'x18'x 54 in. pool?

If possible I would suggest going up to the Hayward EC50AC Filter.

I keep seeing backwash the filter if the pressure is going, I have the bump de filter, is there a backwash on this filter ? I do not see anything on my filter that says backwash, am I missing something?
Reply
Thomas, On the DE and Sand Filter's the term backwash refers to the process of cleaning out the filter. You can find the instructions to clean the filter in the Perflex DE Filter Owners Manual under cleaning.

Hi Geoffey, I would recommend leveling the filter. Also where is the filter leaking from, you may need to replace a gasket or o-ring.

I would like to install a Hayward 1 Hp PowerFlow 2 speed matrix Pump (SP15922S) along with a Hayward EC50AC filter. In addition, I would like to use a Hayward Heat Pro Heat Pump (95,000 BTU.)
Is this an efficient configuration? What are your recommendations for the base for the pump and filter? Are there base units that accommodate this pump and filter? Where would I find them?

We have a 24 feet above ground pool with a Hayward De Filter, model ec45. We've been using it for 12 years with no problems. However, this year, the DE is flowing back into the pool. Do you know what can be causing this? The pool water has been tested and it is fine. The water is clear except for the DE which is making it cloudy when stirred up. This will be our last season for the pool as we will be getting rid of it. I don't want to replace the filter since it is our last year. Thanks.

Hi Anna, This is most likely damaged DE fingers. You can replace the damaged DE Fingers by using the Perflex EC Replacement DE Fingers.

I was thinkibg about purchasing the ls40 grid for my filter, but can across the perflex de 20, my pump is a Hayward 1.0 hp, any recommendations never used a unit with those fingers in the filter

Hi Joe, I'm not a big fan of the finger as they can be quite expensive when they need to be replaced, almost as much a complete filter.

I have a EC40AC and DE seems to be seeping into the pool, I had a bad check valve, replaced it and it fixed the issue of cloudy water in my "basket" but it didn't solve the problem of DE seeping into the pool, I inspected the "fingers" as best I can and they seem fine, any suggestions?
Reply
Hi Guy, A small tear in the fingers that is invisible to the eye can cause DE to get back into the pool. If you're sure it's not tubes them it could be the diaphragm.

Our above ground pool is a 15 x 30 oval and 52" deep. Will the EC-40 D.E. filter system be big enough?
Reply
Hi, John. The Perflex EC40 is large enough for a 15'x30' pool as along as your pump does not exceed 40 GPM.

What size pump do you need for a 10,000 gal pool? My pump handle is broken on present one, Should I replace ? It is 20 yrs. old. The new model seems a lot easier. Probably worth the investment, please advise.

Hi Charlotte when you say pump I assume you mean filter. For a 10,000 gallon pool I would suggest the EC65A PerFlex Filter

is the ec 40 ac filter body the same configuration as the extended cycle ec 50. I have a bad set of fingers on my ec 50 and want to replace it with the 40 ac filter and body

Hi, Phil. The EC40AC body is smaller than the EC50 unit but the swap should not be difficult.

Hi, Janet. There is no trick to installing the check valve. You can purchase a different type of system that does not use a check valve.

I have a Hayward Ec40ac filter that is developing high pressure after running for a short period of time. Once the pressure is approximately 23 to 25 psi, the filter losses flow from the discharge side. I have cleaned the flex tubes in muriatic acid but that didn't resolve the issue. I appreciate any suggestions with this issue.
