How many hours per day should I run my pump?
Reply
There are many factors to consider; bather load, gallons of water, pump horsepower, type and size of filter just to name a few. A good guideline is 8-10 hours a day. On the cooler days and early and late season, you can cut the run time down to 4-6 hours because there is usually less swimmers and cooler water requires less chemicals. In peak season, when it is the hottest, raising the run time to 10-12 hours per day will help to keep the pool clean and circulating during it’s time of heaviest use.

Hi, can this pump be used with a salt water chlorinator [generator] made in South Africa by Justchlor which requires a salt level of 6000ppm by weight, yes I know most USA systems call for 3500ppm. After 27 months my pump motor bearing is whining badly and I presume the shaft seal has gone, I see Hayward has a kit with a salt shaft seal, do you stock this pump "salt ready" if this is what I need?
Reply
The SP2610X15 is a 1.5HP 230/115v single speed pump that can be used with salt water pools. The main issue with a higher salt ppm level is that the salt will corrode the rubber seals and any metals that it comes in contact with at a quicker rate. Unfortunately the pump does not come "salt ready". You would have to purchase a salt water tune up kit separately. I recommend changing the shaft seal every season with a salt water pool to prevent shaft seal failure.

The water pressure seems to be week as it exits into the pool. Does the motor lose efficiency over time or maybe the empeler needs to be replaced.
Reply
Motors will run full speed until the day they freeze up and stop. The most likely culprit is the filter. Trying this : if you have a sand or DE filter - put the multiport on re-circulate. If you have a cartridge, remove the element from the tank. Then turn the system on. If this returns the system to its usual power , you know you have to clean, or get new filter media. If that does not help, there could also be debris wrapped around the impeller. You can try to reach it by removing the basket and putting your hand in, or you have to separate the motor from the housing to really get at it.

My present model is SP2610X15 with a I I/2 HP motor. The PVC is I I/2 ". Can I use a 1 HP motor and if so what is the model number ? Can the complete unit come with salt water seals?
Reply
Neal, You can go down in horsepower to the UST1102 A.O. Smith 1 HP Round Flange Up Rate Motor, but you would also need to replace your impleller with a sp2607-c (spx2607c) part number 5110-10ca.The pump itself will not come with a saltwater seal, so if you decide to reaplce the motor I would suggest getting the salt water tune-up kit GOKIT3SALTSaltwater Tune Up Kit Hayward Super Pump.

I am using a superpump as a jet pupil for a 700 gallon in ground hour tub. It is feeding six jets and is approximately 75 feet from body of water. I only have descent flow from two of the jets a and very little from the other four. What is the possibility that this pump is not powerful enough to provide pressure to all six jets?
Reply
Hi Dan, Giving the distance the pump is from the body of water this pump would not provide the water flow needed to properly operate the jets on your hot tub. You will need a high performance pump like the Hayward Super II Pump or Tri-Star Pump.

My Hayward Super Pump 1 1/2 HP is now extremely LOUD and seems like air is in the lines. What is the potential problem. Is the noise the bearings ?
Reply
Hi Robert, The noise could be the bearing or could be because you have a suction leak cause the pump to draw air into the lines. You will have to first resolve the air leak issue, we have a How To: Identify and Correct Air Leaks guide.

Depending on the size of the plumbing, you can purchase just the pump Housing, 1 1/2" Strainer Super Pump (spx1600aa) or the Housing, 2" Strainer, Super Pump (spx1620aa). Please not that the housing is just the housing and does not include any additional parts like o-rings or locking knobs.

My in ground pool of 30,000 gallons currently uses a Hayward C48L2N134B3 Series SE02 pump. Can I replace it with the Super pump SP2610X15 you offer with the strainer housing? If so what is improved over my old pump and what size is the pvc from the pool to the pump as well as from the strainer basket to the filter? What other options are available and what are the advantages of each over what I have now?
Reply
The Super Pump would be a great replacement pump as far as the pump you have now and the SP2610X15 both being 1.5HP. As far as telling you the differences between the two, I would need to know which model of Hayward pump you have, not the motor.

what is the rated throughput (cubic meter per second or gallon per second of model # SP2610X1551?
Reply
The gallons per minute (GPM) for this pump is based on the Total Resistance to Flow (Feet of Head). Here is a link to How Do I Calculate Feet of Head for My Pool? if you need assistance determining that number. The product page for the Hayward Super Pump 1.5 HP 50 Cycle 220V - SP2610X1551 has a chart to help determine the GPM of this pump.

I have a Centurion b129 (01-64304-24) motor on a hayward super pump (sp2610x15). I am fairly certain the bearings are going due to high pitch whine from the motor, and I think I have a bad seal due to a leak at the area where the motor connects. Can you suggest
a. the proper replacement seal kit
b. replacement motor
c. what dual speed motor would work with my setup

Hi, Seth. The Century Motor B129 and Tune Up Kit GOKIT3 or GOKIT3SALT are the parts needed. You can use the B2977T as a dual speed option.

I have a Hayward super pump exactly as pictured in your model SP2610X15 with the gold colored pump. Mine is model # C48L2N134B1 ( 1 1/2hp) and says SP-1610-Z1-M. made by A.O.SMITH. I need a replacement motor and seal kit but from what i see the replacement motor you recommend is a Century (C48L2N134), MODEL UST1152. Can you tell me why can't you buy the exact same replacement motor as the original (gold) or does that only come with the complete pump. I'd like to stick with hayward equipment.
Reply
Hello, the original motor on your pump is currently a Hayward branded Century Motor. The only difference between the UST1152 and your current motor is the gold colouring. If you wish to have another gold Hayward branded century motor, you will need to purchase a whole new pump.

Model number is C48L2N134B1 - 1 1/2 HP, 3450 RPM. I am going to replace the whole motor/pump at this point since I do not want issue later on and now need just a pump. What model do you recommend?

Nore, there's only two screws.

On the top of the pump you will see a decal that has a wiring diagram. You can use this picture to see how to wire the pump depending on if you are using 110 or 220

Thanks for the answer, however not quite clear on the diagram on which screw the black wire goes on. My model is C48L2N134B3, Serial 02217CH. Volt 115/230, HP 1 1/2, RPM 3450. As you can see in the picture it's set to 230 volts and i've placed the black wire on top and the white wire at the bottom... Is this the correct wiring configuration for 230 volts ?
If it's 230v, it doesn't make a difference since both lines are 115v hot. As long as you have 1 wire to line 1 and the other to line 2 and green to ground, it will be fine.

We currently have a hayward super pump 1.5 hp that the motor went on. We previously had the same hayward super pump with 1hp. I'm trying to figure out if we need to be at a 1hp or 1.5 to replace ours. Our pool is roughly 20,000 gallons. I will attach photos of my pump. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, Samantha. Unfortunately, we're unable to tell using pictures. You can use our How Do I Calculate Feet of Head for My Pool? or our How to Size a Pool Pump guide to assist you with properly sizing a pool pump.

The pool that is 20K gallons will need a pump to turn over at least 42 gallons per minute in hours to turn the total gallons over one time. The Hayward Super Pump 1 1/2 HP Single Speed - W3SP2610X15 is the better choice for this particular application. We offer How to Size a Pool Pump for Your In-Ground Pool that will help provide more details to pump sizing and choice of types of pumps needed, remember every pool is different, it is not only the gallons per minute that factors the specific pump to order. I was just going to order a replacement motor for my model C48L2N134B1 Hayward Century Self Priming motor, which looked like it was your model UST1152, but when we followed your how to video to disassemble the motor from the pump, we cracked the pump because it was too tightly fastened to the motor. Now I think that I need to replace both pump & motor. The pump that I have is Model SP2610X15.
Hi Michelle, If you wanted to replace your entire pump then this would be the proper replacement and might be the way to go. We also carry the Waterway 1.5 HP SMF Pump which is a drop-in replacement for the Hayward Super Pump by using the supplied adjustable bases and will save you a little bit of money over the Hayward. The Waterway Pump does have 2" Ports where the Hayward has 1.5" ports so you will need to pick up a two of these 2" x 1.5" reducer bushings

I have a Hayward 2610X15 pump w/ pump serial number 600021 operating summers since ca. 1995. Bearing squeal is intermittent. If I were to buy a replacement 2610X15, could I unbolt its motor and pump guts from its pump housing by removing the 4 exposed bolts and swap it for the existing motor/diffuser/impeller/etc assembly? If the dimensions allow this to work, is there any history of internal pump erosion that would require replacing the existing pump housing to achieve full performance?
Reply
We do not recommend doing that as it will void the manufacturer's defect warranty on the Hayward Super Pump 1 1/2 HP Single Speed - W3SP2610X15 If you want to replace the motor and those parts, we recommend ordering the Century 1.5 HP Round Flange 56J Up Rate Motor - UST1152 Generic Super Pump™ Style Drive Train Upgrade Kit 1.5 HP - 5110-53 All pumps have a lifetime of 10-years, once they have surpassed the ten-years the whole pump should be replaced or the motor with the upgrade kit. *Note, if the housing is 25-years old, it may be best to replace the whole pump as the housing could weather and pin-hole leaks could come about.

is this super pump suitable for outdoor exposed to rain and direct sunlight service?
Reply
Hello. The Hayward Pool Products Super Pump is designed as an outdoor pool pump and as such is exposed to the weather. Protecting the motor from direct sunlight and/or direct exposure to water (rainfall or irrigation) can increase its life span. A protective pool motor cover can provide such protection. Protective Pool Motor Cover - R221016 Other recommendations: maintain good airflow around the pool pump - keep the air cooling ports free of debris. make sure the pump installation site has sufficient water drainage to prevent water from building around the motor. clean the pump basket and pool filter per the manufacturer's recommendation.
