Can you replace single speed pump motor with dual speed pump motor?
Reply
Yes but you can't go with a higher HP than the single speed motor. For example if you have a 1 HP single speed you cannot go with a 1.5 HP dual speed motor; you would be able to use a 1 HP dual speed motor. Customer would need to purchase a toggle switch or timer to switch from high speed to low speed.

What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Can you direct me to the proper hi low switch for this motor?
Reply
Unfortunately the manufacturer does not offer the switch for the 2 speed 220v motors any longer. If you already have a 220 volt timer (on/off) you would need an Intermatic T106R to switch from high to low speed. If you do not have a timer currently you would need the T10604R which is a 220v on/off timer and a high/low timer.

I am replacing a pump motor, original is STA-BRITE Model P6RA6F-206L Max-E-Pro (also says Model C48L2PA105). 1.5 Hp, 1.1 kW. What would be the correct A.O. Smith motor?
Thanks.

Hi, Martin. You can use this motor if you're converting your single speed pump to a dual speed and already have a controller. If you do not have a controller you can use the B2982T Motor w/ Controller. If you want to stick with the original motor you'll need the USQ1152 motor.

Is the correct two speed motor to use with the pentair challenger CH9II-N1-1 1/2A 1-16-G03 34-6206 with 1 1/2 inch PVC piping?

Hi, James. This Century SQS1102R motor is the correct dual speed motor that can be used with your Challenger Pump. I would also recommend that you get the Challenger Pump Tune Up Kit - GOKIT5.

Is the SQS1102R motor a valid replacement for the Flotec FPT20515 pump? The motor model number is K48L2P104B1.

I didn’t realize that the screw in the impeller was left hand thread. I trashed it getting it out. Can I run without it?

Hi, Steve. You are able to operate some pumps without an impeller screw. You will need to provide the make and model of your pump in order for us to confirm.

The pump is Dura-Glas H/L with the AO SMITH C48L2P104 motor. I bought the rebuild Kit from you and couldn’t get the screw out in one piece.

Steve, That model pump is able to operate without an impeller screw.

Hi
I’m not sure if you received my reply of your message. I’m trying to find out if my pump will run without the impeller screw that I trashed. The pump is a dura/Glas h/l with an AO Smith motor # c48lp104.

Hi, Steve. You can scrap the impeller screw only if you're using a new style motor.

I replaced the motor on my P6RA6YF-206L with a Century SQS1102R. It works fine on high speed but does not register a flow on low speed and salt chlorine generator gives a steady NO Flow indication and eventually trips breaker. I replaced the flow switch but that didn't help. Filters and skimmers are clean. Any ideas?

Based on your e-mail we are not clear as to whether the low speed of the motor is coming on or not. If low speed is actually coming on then the issue is with the sensors/flow switch or system itself. If the low speed is not coming on we you need to determine if the motor is getting power to low speed. Have to determine if it is a motor or system issue.

I am looking to run this motor as a single speed motor for my pool. Is it possible or do I also need to purchase the two speed end bell.

Chris, it is possible to have the Century Motors A.O. Smith 1 H.P Square Flange 48Y Dual Speed Full Rate Motor - SQS1102R only run at one speed. We would suggest contacting the motor manufacturer for advice on exactly how to do this. AO Smith Century Motor Company can be reached by calling 866.887.5216.

Will this part fit on the Haywood Super Pump, 1Hp 2 Speed, self priming? Can I use the high low switch it has or do I need to purchase a new one?
Hello. The Century Motor 1.0HP Dual Speed motor will NOT fit the Hayward Super Pump. The Century Motor 1.0HP Round Flange Dual Speed Motor model STS1102RV1 is fully compatible with the Hayward Super Pump. Without full knowledge of which high/low switch is currently installed, I can not make a recommendation in full confidence. I would speculate that the switch is compatible. For a definitive answer, I would suggest consulting a licensed electrician or the motor manufacturer. It is recommended that the motor shaft seal, seal plate gasket, and diffuser O-ring be replaced at the same time. The GOKIT3 contains the necessary parts to complete this project.
