What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Am needing to replace electric motor for Power-Flo Matrix Pump by Hayward. Reading instructions for seal replacement seems to lead to motor removal. Once motor removed from pump housing, how do I remove the collar and impeller? Will it be obvious once I see it? Or will other tools or work be required to swap that to new motor? Thanks

The SPX1510Z1XE part number 5111-86 would be the correct replacement motor for you powerflow matrix 1hp pump. I would also recommend you replace you shaft seal when replacing the motor which is part number SP1500KA.

The pump/strainer is leaking between the motor and strainer. There's play between the motor and the strainer. Is there a possible quick fix? Is this a common breakdown. Seems the cause would have been from the struggle to open the strainer lid. HELP!

Typically this type of leaking is caused by a bad shaft seal. If you do have a Hayward Power Flo then I would suggest a Hayward Power-Flo Tune Up Kit which includes the shaft seal and all of the orings for the pump.
