What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Am needing to replace electric motor for Power-Flo Matrix Pump by Hayward. Reading instructions for seal replacement seems to lead to motor removal. Once motor removed from pump housing, how do I remove the collar and impeller? Will it be obvious once I see it? Or will other tools or work be required to swap that to new motor? Thanks

The SPX1510Z1XE part number 5111-86 would be the correct replacement motor for you powerflow matrix 1hp pump. I would also recommend you replace you shaft seal when replacing the motor which is part number SP1500KA.

The pump/strainer is leaking between the motor and strainer. There's play between the motor and the strainer. Is there a possible quick fix? Is this a common breakdown. Seems the cause would have been from the struggle to open the strainer lid. HELP!
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/18/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Typically this type of leaking is caused by a bad shaft seal. If you do have a Hayward Power Flo then I would suggest a Hayward Power-Flo Tune Up Kit which includes the shaft seal and all of the orings for the pump.

 Reply

A  Answered on 5/24/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

This really depends on the pump this motor is hooked up to. This motor is most commonly used on the Hayward Power-LX Pump which has an average Gallons Per Minute (GPM) rating of 80 GPM. This motor is normally used on above ground pool pumps or hot tub pumps and not inground pool pumps.

i have a Matrix 1hp pump brand new de system started the pump up got the filter full shut down to get the de from my garage weighted it out went to start up the pump to start putting the de in the skimmer and the pump just started humming wouldn't pump the water . is this a centrifigal switch bad or a frozen shaft or just a bad pump altogether.
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/25/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Normally a pool pump humming would mean a bad motor capacitor and we would suggest replacing the motor on the pump. The correct motor for the 1 HP Hayward Matrix would be the motor on this page, we would also suggest replacing the Hayward Matrix Shaft Seal.

I welcome any help at this point Thanks Cal.

A  Answered on 6/4/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

HI Cal, Several this can cause a pump seal to fail. The most common is not maintaining your pool's water chemistry. Other reasons like If the pump runs dry, the pump is vibrating and improper installation. You can go with a  hp pump but I would recommend that you first find out why your seals are failing.

Hello. I have a power flo matrix 1 hp (SP1510Z1XEHC). Sometimes when it starts it will start up and begin pumping then it will start to hum after about 10-15 seconds then shut down. After I let it cool down it will start and run for hours. It is random. I can't find a capacitor. Can this be a faulty or sticking centrifugal switch? Sometimes it smells like something is burning when it starts to hum. Then it may start up and run normal after it cools down. Is there a hidden capacitor somewhere?

What you describe could be the capacitor, the switch or the windings of the motor. (windings are least likely but possible ) A capacitor would be located on the back of the motor next to the switch. Sometimes replacing the capacitor is a short term solution & you could end up having problems within a short period of time, we suggest you replace the motor & of course the shaft seal & o-rings. 90-423-5362 ( lid o-ring), 90-423-6000 ( volute o-ring ) & 35-150-3303 ( shaft seal )
