does the flat side go on top or does the ridge side go on top

Hello Dick, the flat side of the gasket should fit into the gasket groove with the ridged side facing outwards.

I have been looking for a Perseus 5 Star Spider Gasket #713 for some time (years). Does this Par t# 4870-130 cross reference to the Perseus Spider Gasket? It seems to be the correct dimensions. The Perseus Spider Gasket was used in Proline Filters. This filter is 20 years old. Ü Thanks, Mike

Yes, the 4870-130 is the correct spider gasket for your valve.

Is this gasket able to be used to repair a Hayward SP 714 thathas the integrated spider gasket?

Hi, Tim. Unfortunately, this gasket will not fit the SP714 series valve, you will need to replace the Key/Seal Assembly - SPX0714CA.

Yes, with that unit we would recommend adding some Adhesive For Valve Seat Gasket (81731)
