Frequently Bought with Hand Knob Kit
I'm thinking of purchasing this replacement part but wanted to know how to remove the old, stripped plastic swivel nut from the pump? Does it just pop out with a little prying? Thanks so much.

You are correct in your assumption that is should just pop out. When they are new, they slide out real easy. As the pump gets older, they do get a little more set in place. A simple tap on the side with a screwdriver should pop it out.

under what circumstances would part # 5110-62 become faulty? i suspect this part is faulty as it is not tightening and the water is escaping?

Likely if the threads are bad from the start and or the knob itself is molded wrong. In the end such a part would need to be deemed defective by the manufacturer though.

Hello Lonzey, The 5110-62 Hand Knob Kit (spx1600pn) includes just one knob and one swivel nut.

Concerning the Hayward swivel nut, I always have to replace them. Just about every year they either snap in half or get stripped. When I buy new ones I have to get the handle with it. Don't they sell the nut alone, and do they have any brands that make the nut in metal? I see another type listed by you that is metal, will it fit and work on my Hayward DE filter?

Bob, Unfortunately, they do not sell the nut by itself. The older style was a brass piece but Hayward changed the material to plactic several years ago.

I have a Hayward Super Pump Pool Pump, 1.5 HP and I can't get the Hand Knob (for the pump basket housing) to screw back into the pump. The part that the Hand Knob screws into looks like it is stripped, but the Hand Knob itself looks to be OK. Are there are any instructions on replacing the part that the Hand Knob screws into?
Thanks, Dennis Foster

Hello Dennis. The swivel nut can be extracted from the pump housing by placing a small flat head screwdriver into the threaded hole and gently pushing the swivel nut forward enough to grab with pliers and remove. Prior to installing the new swivel nut, place a small amount of o-ring lubricant on the body of the swivel nut. This provides for ease of manipulation as you align the swivel nut to accept the threaded knob. Place a small quantity of o-ring lubricant on the lid o-ring to ensure a good seal and prevent over-tightening.

Pros: quick - easy to replace
Cons: not realizing it was so simple
Leaking air in filter on suction side of pump - so air was getting in water not leaking water out. Gasket was damaged and one screw had been overtightened and threads damaged. ordered, received, and repaired within three days. If you see air bubbles in water to pool this may be your problem

This is why I really like Inyo Pools! They have the stuff you can't find anywhere else... when i was closing my pool in the Fall of 2022 this strainer basket lid knob handle broke off the bolt.. which when it happens it's no good anymore... can't be glued this is what puts the downward pressure on the lid to seal it with the lower have of the strainer and the gasket.
