How does the dual speed feature of this pump work?

Some dual speed pumps have a toggle switch in the back of the motor to change speeds manually, but many do not. Generally you would need to tie this dual speed pump into one of our dual speed pump timers/controllers. One of the more popular models is the Digital PE153 series. This timer has 3 functions: one to turn the pump on and off, a second auxiliary to switch from high speed to low speed, and then a third for any other piece of pool equipment. I was given a Hayward Super II 2 hp 2 speed pump model SP3015X202AZ to replace my 1hp single speed Super Pump for my inground pool. I know that I need to reduce from 2" to 1-1/2 to pipe it up. The motor is an AO Smith K48M2N116, 2-1/3 hp, 230v, 2 speed, 3450/1725 rpm motor. 1. Aside from busing down the ports, can I use this pump as a replacement? 2. Is there a manual two speed switch I can add to the end of this motor? Thank you. 2.

Hi, Steve. Aside from reducing the plumbing to 1-1/2" and getting an external controller like the End Cover Switch Assembly - 1011431-001 or Pool Timer Dual Speed Pump Timer - T106R you will need to determine if your system can handle the additional water flow on high speed.
