Does this system require scheduled maintainance ie: clean the salt cartridge etc.? Is this system suitable for pools ranging from 10,000 - 15,000 gallons?
Reply
Hello Peter - The salt cell will require occasional maintenance. The digital display will present the following messages when the salt cell needs to be cleaned or inspected; "Low Flow; Purifier Off" or "Check Cell". This system is suitable for your pool and pools up to 22,000 gallons.

I have heard that the larger the cell, the less running time (pump) is necessary to produce chlorine. I also heard this type of set up will increase the life of the cell because it wont be working as long. If true, what size should I look at for a 20K pool.
Ps.... Are there any draw backs to this theory other than the initial cost?

Hi Carl, Over sizing the cell to your pool will allow the less to work less extending the life of the cell. The AutoPilot ST48 would be the recommended size for your pool, it can treat up to 40,000 gallons. The upfront cost is the only drawback, but it's worth it.

Went with Auto Pilot system because that is what was previously was installed. Removed old unit, took pic of how wires were hooked up at timer, also wrote them down on paper, mounted new unit on side of house (smaller box than old one) began running all new plumbing from pump to filter to heater then to salt cell plumbing hook up, and into return lines.
Once that was finished ran wiring to Salt chlorinator power box, then the wiring to salt cell, once completed double checked all my wiring to pics I took earlier, double checked all plumbing connections, after examining and everything appeared OK turned breaker back on, waited a minute then turned timer on which turns on pump and salt chlorinator.
Nano started displaying on screen, set my pool size in gallons into unit, it then told me how much salt to add to pool, set to 50% per instructions and it ran just fine. Super easy job to install, works like a dream and already saving us money by not needing any other chemicals to add when we get water tested weekly! Love it!
