What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

my pool pump is making a high pitched noise and it getting hot
it is working but very noisy
what could it be that is causing this noise ? the pump is about 12 yrs old 1.5 HP inground pool
Reply
Good afternoon. The high pitch noise is the bearing starting to go. I can not say how long you have before it gives out. It could be a matter of days or weeks. The bearing are starting to stick which in turn causes more heat.

If the breaker is still tripping then it is not likely the breaker and more likely an electrical issue or the motor.

Many design changes occur every few years, the motor manufacturers are not going to have these parts available separately. We would recommend a new motor.

I have a Hayward Pro-Flo Matrix that uses the Century sp1515Z1ESC motor which is only 3 years old and today the pump motor did not start and I have 120v into the motor. What could cause this and can it be repaired?

Possibly a start capacitor or insufficient voltage being delivered to the pump. look for burning on connecting wires and see if the cylindrical cap behind the end pack is leaking fluid.

The 3-prong plug on my motor SPX1515Z1E gets too hot and the prongs 'burn up", first...why is this (electrically), and if I were to replace the cord/plug, what size conductors and plug amp ratings would I use? 1.5 HP 115vac
Reply
I am not sure how you have it wired, however, it must connect only to a grounding-type receptacle protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI). Do NOT bury the cord. Locate cord to minimize abuse from lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, and other equipment. Contact a qualified electrician if you cannot verify that the receptacle is protected by a GFCI.

It looks like my pool pump motor went bad, it is a century motor, SP150Z24ESC, Part # 7-193824-01. The name plate says it is a 2HP motor, but when I cross it on your website a 1.5HP motor comes up. Is this correct?
Hi Rich, the correct replacement motor for your motor part number 193824 is the 5111-88. When replacing a pool motor we do suggest a Seal Kit. OK, thanks for that clarification. The picture is the one currently being used on my filter. So that is the one I want to replace. Hopefully take the one off and put the new one on. I also believe there is a kit required to replace the mechanical seal, but not 100% sure.
