Can I reduce the 2 in connections down to 1 1/2? Do you have to use ridgid pvc pipe or can you use flex piping? Does this unit come with electrical cord?
Reply
Hello Trevor - You can reduce the connections down to 1.5". Flexible PVC can be used. This heater does come with a standard 120 VAC 3-prong power cord.

Does this heater come with the 11/2 in manifold output connector shown in Fig. 11 of the owner's manual? It mentions the supplied 2" connector. what about the 11/2" connector?
Reply
Jerry, This unit does not come with 1-1/2" hose connector that is shown in Fig. 11 but it does come with the 2" union connections.

why is an electric connection needed

The 156 is available standard with Raypak’s propriety AFT digital control. This control handles all the safety functions of the heater as well as the electronic ignition and flame supervision. State of the art diagnostic reporting and fault recording. This is the same control we use in our bigger gas pool heaters. Only the best will do for the model 156. The electronic ignition system requires external power (120VAC or 240VAC) and generates a pilot only when there is a call for heat. Units come with a 3 foot, 3 prong power cord

i turned off the heater to reaplace the spa water, when i turned on, the display tells me that the water sw is open and the heater will not fire up. how do i fixe the problem??

Hi Armando, According to the Raypak 106 & 156 Installation and Operating Manual, the problem is the Pressure switch. They asked that you "Verify water flow and pressure CLEAN FILTER / STRAINER - backwash if neccessary."

Is the heat exchanger stainless steel inside with copper fins outside? Is this heater OK for an above ground 24' pool?
Reply
Hi John, The heat exchanger in these units does not have stainless steel tube, it has copper tubes and fins but the sheets are stainless steel.

I am replacing a heater that I had for 7 yrs. I have some concerns. I have an above ground 18' X 33'X 52" oval pool will the 156 be able to handle that size. I live in New Jersey where are your heaters shipped from and do you guarantee heater will be delivered in good condition and if not do you have free return.
thank you

Hi, John. To effectively heat a pool of your size would require a 200K BTU heater. These units are packaged and shipped to prevent damage from occurring but if your unit arrives damaged you would refuse delivery and notified us immediately. The return delivery on damaged goods are of no charge to the customer.

I have 24000 gal. pool how many BTU's do I need to heat pool & spa?
Reply
Hi. Heaters are sized based on the pool's surface area, you can calculate your pools surface area and heater sizing using the formulas from theses links The Surface Area of your Swimming Pool & The BTU Size of your Swimming Pool Heater.

The pilot knob plunges slightly but will not turn to pilot. It is sitting in the on position. Does their need to be water in the heater for this knob to function?
Reply
Hi. Water has to be flowing through the unit in order for it to begin ignition. The Gas valve must be in the on position. I would recommend using the flow chart in the Owners Manual - Models 106 & 156 to diagnose any problems with the unit.

When my pump motor shuts off at night does my heater shut off too.

We installed this heater today. It started up perfectly and heated for about 30 minutes and then shut off. The display reads Rollout Sw open. What do we need to do?
Normally that occurs in windy locations, are you in a windy location? If so you will need one of these High Wind Stacks If you think that wind is not the issue then it is possible it is a faulty rollout switch and we could send you a replacement. Here is a Video on How to Replace a Raypak Roll Out Switch which is a pretty straight forward process,

It is not normally windy here but it was yesterday afternoon when we installed the heater. Is there a way to reset it to determine if that was the issue?

Hi Karen, From my understanding is that when the conditons become less windy then that error code should go away, was that not the case? You may want to give Raypak a quick call at and they should be able to troubleshoot with you by phone. Raypak 805-278-5300

I contacted Raypak and they said that I need a new rollout switch. Will you replace it?

Hi Karen, please give our customer service a call at 407-834-2200 and they will get you taken care of. If Raypak gave you a part # for that switch then please have that handy.

I have a 12K gallon above ground round pool and I live in Alberta Canada at 2200+ elevation above sea level. What size and type of heater do I require. It is typically windy here as well.

One of the Hayward Universal H-Series LowNox heaters shown here http://www.inyopools.com/productlisting/heaters_hayward_lownox.aspx would be a great choice, they include a kit to use the heater up to 10,000 feet above sea level. The minimum BTU size for your size pool is 100,000BTU. The Hayward heaters start at 150K if you installed a heater for that size it will take approximately, one hour to raise the temperature by 1-degree with the use of a Solar Blankets or Natural Chemistry COVER FREE 32 Oz - 07100 to prevent evaporation, 80% of heat loss is due to evaporation without a cover or liquid cover it will take longer to heat and maintain temperatures in the water.

We have a 20’ x 40’ inground pool that holds 45,000 gallons. Would this heater work for a pool this size?
Reply
Hi Angela, more than likely you will need a larger unit to efficiently heat your 45k gallon swimming pool. There are a few variables that need to be considered to size a pool heater. Here is a guide that we put together called "Sizing Your Pool Heater" that should help.

do you have to install a chimney
Reply
Hello Mike, so for these units in a high wind area you will want to use a high wind stack to prevent the pilot light from going out, and for indoor installation, you will want to use a vent adapter kit to allow the exhaust fumes to be directed outdoors.

I have a 15X30 pool will this effectively heat the pool ?

One of the most frequently asked questions we hear from pool owners is, “How long does it take to heat a pool?” This is an important question because it helps pool owners determine what size pool heater they need to purchase for their pool and how long in advance they need to start their heater so that it is warm enough to swim.
