What is a booster pump, and where does it attach to?

This cleaner is designated as a pressure side cleaner which means:Pressure Pool Cleaners most pressure cleaners require a booster pump which is typically a ¾ horse power pump that is dedicated for use with the cleaner alone. The booster pump allows you to operate the pressure cleaner without taking any suction away from your main pool pump. The addition of the booster pump does mean pressure cleaners require a more involved installation than either suction or robotic cleaners. The booster pump is installed in tandem with your pool pump.

I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?
Reply
Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

Can I buy a polaris booster pump with out buying the motor?

Hi Mike, There is not a pre-assembeled pump housing without the motor be we do carry all of the Parts for the Polaris Booster Pump here.

Is this same as the motor listed here (http://www.inyopools.com/Products/00201319001532.htm)? I purchased the motor in March, and it has already failed. Also, I have leak from shaft seal. It appears that a housing or a mounting blanket might be cracked. I am thinking to upgrade to a compatible model.

Hi Gen, Yes this is the pump which uses the B625 motor, so the B625 motor comes with this pump.

My pool guy wants to use the Hayward 6060 booster pump.
In reading reviews it seems the Hayward isn't last more than a few years.
It has been suggested I get the Polaris instead...how long do they seem to last?
Reply
The life expectancy will vary based on the wear and tear on the unit. Both Hayward and Polaris make very reputable booster pumps. I would recommend staying within the same manufacturer between the pump and cleaner if possible.

My Polaris 380 will not "crab traverse" across the pool floor at the walls any more. I also am not seeing any pressure bleed off from the relief valve in the UWF.

Hello Kent, Are you trying to replace your motor for your booster pump or you want to replace your whole booster pump? The number 7-187400-20 came up with Motor Polaris Threaded Shaft .75hp (b625). That goes to an older version and obsolete version of the Polaris booster pump.

Hello John- Do you know if your booster pump was purchased before or after 2011? If you don't you may have to call Zodiac at 1-800-822-7933 with your serial number for them to determine which seal you will need.

I have a Polaris PB4 booster pump manufactured on or around 1998 that needs replacement. Are the electrical terminals/connections/wiring exactly the same on the PB4-60? I would like to do the installation myself but will be unable if I have to change the wires or the connectors to the terminals.
Reply
Frank, The wiring will not be the same. Please note that the motor comes preset to 230v but can also be wired for 115v. The wiring of the motor is considered to be somewhat difficult for the average homeowner that is not a DIY'er.

Hi,
I had purchased a 1.5HP variable speed pump and a salt generator a few months ago. I did some troubleshooting and I still can't get enough water circulation to effectively turn all of the water in the pool. Will a booster pump help if I install one between the output of the filter and the return line?

We would need a little more information to help-pool size, what vs pump? length of run, type of filter? something does not sound right...vs pump should have done the job.
