What is a booster pump, and where does it attach to?
Reply
This cleaner is designated as a pressure side cleaner which means:Pressure Pool Cleaners most pressure cleaners require a booster pump which is typically a ¾ horse power pump that is dedicated for use with the cleaner alone. The booster pump allows you to operate the pressure cleaner without taking any suction away from your main pool pump. The addition of the booster pump does mean pressure cleaners require a more involved installation than either suction or robotic cleaners. The booster pump is installed in tandem with your pool pump.

I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?

Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

Our pool is 25 years old. Polaris pump motor was repaired once but lasted only one year. Considering the age of the pump and for simplicity of installation, we decided to replace the pump and motor assembly. Inyo provided all the parts including inlet and outlet connections at pump, flexible hose, clamps required for quick replacement of the pump and motor assembly. Thanks Inyo for making my job easy with all the parts and installation instructions in one package.

Can be done by hand, no tools required for replacing Regulator/relief valve internals.

LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE!! Before replacing the cleaner booster pump, check the operation of the Regulator Relief valve at the hose connection to the pool. Mine was not functional, guts had been carried away which results in no backpressure. This causes the filter pump and cleaner pump to run full out and cavitate (lots of noise). The fix is to replace the valve internals for about $7 instead of the $300+ for replacing the pump. Polaris/jandy and INYO didn't have this as first thing to check in troubleshooting and it caused me 3 days of headaches and over $300.
