What is the Pentair Intellichlor Dummy Cell used for?
Reply
The Dummy cell is basically a cell with no internal parts, this cell is used during cleaning of the real cell. So when you remove the real cell for cleaning you would put the dummy cell in place of the real cell. After you have finished cleaning the real cell you would remove the dummy cell from the plumbing and place the real cell back in place. You may view or purchase the Dummy Cell here >http://www.inyopools.com/Products/03500001032551.htm

my replacement IC40 came in with a peace of plastic in the end where the cord is. my other one did not have this. should i take that out before i install it?? it will slide out its not connected.

Hi, I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to, you can contact Pentair at 800.831.7133 or if the plastic piece does not prevent you from plugging the cell into the power supply then it should not be a problem.

I have an IC40, about 3.5 years old. The Green Cell light is flashing. I cleaned it and after start up the cell light stays solid green for 3 mins then starts flashing again. I cleaned it two more times (last two times no bubbling,so cell was clean) and after each cleaning same result. Cell light on solid green for 3 min then starts flashing.
Does the cell need to be replaced or is there something else i can check?
thanks

Hi, Marko. Based on what you've described the cell has run its course and will need to be replaced.

How often do I need to replace this. The needs salt light stays on even after adding salt and its only 4 years old.

The life span on these cells varies from 1 to approximately 5 years. Time it is being used and chemistry play a big role

What's the best way to clean the cell?
Reply
Mix one quart of muriatic acid with one gallon of tap water in a plastic five (5) gallon bucket. Always add acid to the water, never add water to the acid. Always wear eye protection and use rubber gloves. Always work in a well-ventilated areaPlace the cell vertically in the bucket with the cap end down, as shown in right side illustration. Carefully pour the acid solution (as described above) into the cell until the blades are just covered. Allow the acid solution to bubble, and to clean the blades. The acid should only be contained in the cell and not around it. A foaming action will begin, which is caused by scale being dissolved from the plates. If rigorous foaming action does not begin, the cell does not need to be cleaned.

I want to acid clean the blades on my intelichlor ic20 but can't find the right sized end cap to seal one end. Can antone tell me the proper size? A 2" cap is too small and a 3" cap is too big.

Bob, If you have the Intellichlor cell, you will need the Intellichlor Acid Cleaning Kit.

I've read the reviews and responses can you please clarify the warranty on this unit. One response says 60 days the other says 1 year. Thank you very much for the assistance.

These replacement cells are under warranty for one year.

You're showing the IC20 and IC40 as having the same dimensions. Is this correct? If so, one can upgrade from the IC20 to the IC40 without doing any piping modifications? I run the IC20 max and it has a hard time keeping up (even when new), I'm always having to supplement with CL.
Reply
Yes, you can upgrade your cell with no modifications.

It appears that the controls are upside down compared to my old cell. Is there a way to get one with the flow coming in from the top and having the controls legible. Mine is mounted vertical
Reply
Hi, Casey. There is not a way to this cell is a different orientation.
Reply
Could you please clarify your answer to Casey? I have the same question. Flow in the top and out the bottom. Why is the replacement cell showing a reversed flow? Please advise
Reply
Hi, Joe. The flow switch is now located on the bottom of the controller. I'm not sure why the design was changed.

If I have an IntelliTouch power center, I can just wire the IC40 to it without having to buy the IntelliChlor powercenter, correct?
Reply
You would need to confirm your specific Intellitouch model. Only certain models already have the power center in it for adding on an Intellichlor.

How do you increase the sanitizer output. There are buttons that say less/ more but they don’t work. Is there a trick? Mine is a 2% and like to increase a little... if possible
Reply
Hi, Stacey. Using the Less/More Buttons will increase or decrease chlorine productions. If the buttons are not responding, then there is an issue with the unit.

We have a Pentair pool and spa system that includes an EasyTouch control panel and an Intellichlor IC40 salt system. The circuit breaker for the Intellichlor salt system keeps tripping and the salt cell has no power. Does this mean the salt cell is bad and is there anything else I should look at before ordering a costly replacement cell? Thank you!
Reply
If you have a voltmeter you can measure the DC voltage going to the cell. Normally about 35 VDC if higher or lower you would need to replace the cell.
Reply
None of the lights are working on the panel. I have power connected, any suggestions on what could be wrong?
Reply
If you have this as the only cleaning system in your pool do you need to add salt or anything to the pool after installation and in general.
Reply
Hi. Using the IntelliChlor to sanitize your pool, you will have to add salt to maintain the proper level along with your pool chemistry like the pH, Total Alkalinity, etc.
Reply
Cell light on unit will not come on. Possible problems. Red low salt on. Can't seem to add enough salt to get green light on.
Reply
In most cases when the Pentair Intellichlor IC40 Salt Chlorinator is not producing any chlorine, if the light is off, then the unit is in off mode. If the Cell light is on and flashing, it shows that the unit needs to be cleaned. You will need to check the cell and then clean the Pentair Intellichlor IC40 Salt Chlorinator as necessary.

The cell has been cleaned. What does "unit is in off mode" mean?

Hi, we moved into a house that has a faulty iCHLOR 30. Is this the correct replacement? Our pool is approximately 35,000 gallons.
If this is the correct device, will the IC40 fit in the same space left by the iCHLOR30?
Thanks!
Hi Molly, Yes this is the proper replacement Pool Salt System for the iCHLOR 30.

I need to replace my Pentair IC40. Is it necessary to replace the Transformer at the same time? I assume the new unit simply screws back into place both at the transformer and at the pipe connections. Should the filter be drained prior to removal? (in ground pool with filtration system above)
Reply
Hello. It is not necessary to replace the Power Center Transformer at the same time unless the transformer is defective. The connections for the new IC40 Cell are made identical to the cell being removed. Prior to removing the old cell, open the air release on the filter allowing the circulation system to depressurize. This process will minimize any water draining from the system as the new cell is installed. IntelliChlor Salt IC40 Chlorine Generator - EC-520555
