What is the Pentair Intellichlor Dummy Cell used for?
Reply
The Dummy cell is basically a cell with no internal parts, this cell is used during cleaning of the real cell. So when you remove the real cell for cleaning you would put the dummy cell in place of the real cell. After you have finished cleaning the real cell you would remove the dummy cell from the plumbing and place the real cell back in place. You may view or purchase the Dummy Cell here >http://www.inyopools.com/Products/03500001032551.htm

I have a pool that is about 10,000 gallons but I am thinking of buying a salt chlorine system for pools up to 20,000 gallons. Would the larger unit be a problem?
Reply
It is not a problem to oversize a salt system. It would take the larger unit less time to produce the necessary chlorine so it is actually more efficient. When the pool volume is very close to the capacity of the salt chlorine generator (for example, the pool is 18,000 gallons and the generator is rated at a maximum of 20,000 gallons), we would recommend going up to the next size generator.

Is the salt included with the salt chlorine generator?
Reply
No, salt is not included. You would purchase the salt locally and the quantity will depend upon the number of gallons of water in your pool. Use a salt that is at least 99.8% pure NaCl. The preferred salt is evaporated, granulated, food quality, and NON-iodized. Avoid using salt with anti-caking agents like sodium ferrocyanide, also known as yellow YPS (prussiate of soda). These cause some discoloration of fittings and pool surface finishes. DO NOT use calcium chloride.

Recently my pool pump shorted out and tripped the breaker. I replaced the pump, but there seems not to be any power going to my chlorinator. It does not show any signs of life. The pump and the chlorinator are on the same timer. The pump is working great. Is my power source to the chlorinator out?

Hi John, Something could be wrong with the Power Center. You can refer to page 34 of the IntelliChlor Electronic Chlorine Generator Installation and User’s Guide to troubleshoot this issue.

What would the cost be for just the IC40 generator without the power center?

Randy, take a look here for the part and price: IC40 Replacement Cell, 520555

Do I have to have the power center for the Intellichlor, or can I just hook it up directly to my pool breaker box near the pump?
Reply
Hi Jeff, We do carry the Intellichlor Powercenter, you will not be able to control the cell by hooking it up directly to your breaker box.

Hi Wayne, You can find the Cell Cleaning instructions on pages 22-23 in the IntelliChlor Installation and User’s Guide.

What is the right Intellichlor for a 24000 gal pool?
Reply
Hi Bob, The IC40 is ideal for a 24,000 gallon pool. When sizing a chlorine generator to a pool you always want to oversize the unit to the pool so that the unit works less causing the cell to last longer.

Will this SCG handle 36K gallons with a waterfall?

Hi Nicole, The Intellichlor IC60 is the system that I will recommend for a pool your size.

Will an IC15 work on a 40000 gal pool?
Reply
Good Afternoon Johnny, I would recommend The Intellichlor IC40 Cell and Power over the IC15. anything over 20k is to much for the IC15

I have a 30,000 gallon in-ground pool with a 1.5 HP Sta-Rite single speed pump and an IC40 SCG system. I'm considering replacing my pump motor with a two speed or VS type. Will the slowest speed (600 rpm) in the VS pumps sustain the minimum flow rate for the IC40? I suspect so but was unable to find that bit of information in the IC40 installation and operation manual.
Reply
Good morning Andy, No, at the lowest speed there will not be enough flow to generate chlorine. Depending on pump settings you may have to run pump longer. I would suggest changing output on your salt system by increasing the output that way when it is generating it will be making up for the times it is not.

I have ic40 no power to cell , might have got hit by lighting .Is the cell bad or power controller.
Reply
It could be either that have gone bad due to the surge. That is something that you would need a licensed technician to come and physically inspect on site or call Pentair direct at 1-800-831-7133.

Should I be shocking my salt pool the guy where I get my water checked told I should do it every week
Reply
Hi, Ron. You can use a Non-Chlorine Shock, you'll get the oxidizing effect without increasing the chlorine level.

I am only getting 15 volt out of transformer the green light is on in box but it gets brighter when I tune pump on
nothing lights up on inline salt unit
Reply
Hi, Bob. The transformer should have an output of 22-39 VDC. The transformer is bad since your getting 19v.

I have a 12500 gallon pool with an ic40. The high salt light is flashing. I have calcium deposits all around the pool. I had the water tested, specifically the salt, it was at 3600. My Pentair reading shows 4700. What would your recommendation be to get these numbers in sync or closer and reduce the calcium deposits in the pool? Thanks Rick
Reply
Hi, Rick. I would first recommend inspecting the cell to see if there is also a build up on the cell blades. Follow the cell Cleaning the IECG Cell Blades procedure located in the Intellichlor Owner's Manual. You can follow the steps in our How To Remove Calcium Scale Deposits From Your Pool Wall guide to aid you in removing and preventing calcium deposits in your pool.

I have a Aqua Rite with a T15 cell 40,000 gal. I would like to change over to the IC40 with controller. Can I change over the T15 cell in existing plumbing without changing plumbing to accommodate the IC40 cell? I have already changed the pump to Pentair VS pump and have IntelliTouch.
Reply
Hi, Tom. You will have to redo your plumbing to accommodate the IC40 cell. The T15 cell connections are not compatible with the IC40 cell.

My Pentair IC-40 had stop working last season. Its approx. 8 years old. Should I have the electrical connections & step down transformer check out before replacing it. They are pretty expensive. Thanks.
Reply
Hi, Jeff. If will not hurt to have them checked out before replacing the cell.

I have an IC40 and Powercenter. My salt cell has all solid green but does not appear to be producing chlorine, its only 2 years old and has just been cleaned. Any advice on what I should do?
Reply
Hi ZR, Could you let us know at % output you have the cell and for how many months out of the year you run your pump and for how many hours per day you run your pump?

My IC20 needs to be replaced. If I install a IC40 in its place can I use my existing power center (which is working fine)?
Reply
Yes, the old control panel can be used with the new cell. The control panel is the same for all sizes of the Pentair Intellichlor
Reply
I see this comes with power center Do I need the 'power supply' that is sold separately?
I am switching chlorine pool over that is not automated with a control panel.
Reply
Robert, This is a complete salt system (power center and cell). You will not need to purchase any additional parts other than PVC and PVC fittings.

Is this the latest version of the IC40? Just want to confirm because I plan to connect it with a new Intelliconnect controller and I don't wan't any old firmware issues.
Reply
Hi Bryan yes this is the latest version of the Intellichlor.

I'm using IC20 cell. The pool is 28,000 gallon. The cell has died. I think I should replace it with IC40. Is the IC40 a drop in replacement without any plumbing modification? Also, the power center is fine. Is the cell available to purchase by itself without the power center?
Reply
Hi Ron, Yes the IC40 is a drop-in replacement for the IC20 as it has the same dimensions. The IC40 uses the same power supply as the IC20 so you would require this IC40 Replacement Salt Cell.

I'm changing out pool equipment due to the recent freeze in TX. I purchased the Easytough for pool and sap bundle with screenlogic. What else is needed to convert my pool to salt with the above mentioned panel?
Reply
Hi Angela, This would be the system you would need and would be all that would be required. You may want to get some Salt Test Strips for start up.
