What is the proper range for pressure setting for this pool filter? I have one 10 years old it's running at 20-25 psi.
Reply
On an ititial run, he pressure will range between 10-20 psi. It may be higher if you have hard water.

How do I backwash my Hayward Vertical Grid DE filter?
Reply
When the filter pressure rises 8-10 PSI over the clean starting pressure, the filter must be backwashed. Turn off the pool pump. Rotate the multiport valve to backwash position or slide the slide valve up. When the pump is turned on, the dirty DE and water will flow out to waste. Once the water runs clear, turn off the pump. With a slide valve, push the handle down and start the pump. Once the pump is primed, add the required DE. If using a multiport valve, rotate the handle to rinse. Turn on the pump and let water flow for 20-30 seconds, cleaning out the plumbing lines. Turn off the pump and rotate the valve back to filter. Turn on the pump and once primed add required DE.

Does this come with the valve assembly as pictured, or does that need to be purchased separately?
If it is not included, what is the proper PN?
Thank you

The DE2420 comes WITHOUT the valve. That can be purchased sepeartly. If you would like a Push-Pull valve, that part number is 4810-44C . If you would lkie a Multi-port valve you can either go with a 1 1/2 inch valve ( SP0710XR50 ) or the 2 inch version ( SP0740DE )

how to reattach the metal belt to the filter

Frank, Once you have the lid in place, you would place the clamp around the lip for the lid and the base. Once you have the clamp in place you would slide the bolt through the other end of the clamp then use the locking nut along onto the spring fastening the locking nut onto the bolt until the clamp is tightly fasten onto the tank.

Wich Pro-Grid D.E. Filter I need for a 10,000 gal. swiming pool.
Thank you.

Based on the approximate surface area of your swimming pool I would use a this DE2420 model but in the end it will depend on the model pump that you have. The more flow from that pump will demand a higher sq. footage filter.

Is this filter comparable with a Hayward DE3600? Equal or better?
Reply
John, the DE2420 is going to be smaller than the DE3600. The model that will be the equivalent will be the Hayward Pro Grid DE Filter 36 Sq Ft w/o Valve.

I have a DE filter stainless steel grids 24" long. What size filter should I get to replace the old one. don't know the model#'s
pool size 30,000 gals / 16'wide / 24' length. Or can I get parts for my old DE filter.

First I would need to confirm the model number of your DE Filter in order to determine the correct grid style. The information you have doesn't specifically identify your DE filter system. Generally speaking, though, you you would have 48sf size grids.

How much pressure should show on the gage? Also what do you do when DE goes back in the pool?
Reply
Hi, The filter pressure will vary depending on your pool's pump size, plumbing etc. A few things can cause DE to go back to the pool, you can read our "Getting DE Powder Back in Your Pool" blog for more info.

Is there a minimum flow rate through a filter DE grid, like say 1 GPM per sq.ft., to keep the DE on the grid with constant circulation?
And, is the micron rating of swimming pool DE roughly 5 nominal?
Reply
Hi, Paul. I was unable to find any info regarding a minimum only the maximum flow rate for filters. Yes, the normal micron of DE filters is around 5.

I havea16x32 inground pool with a 1 hp pump what size DE filter do I need
Reply
We would suggest the DE3620 36 Sq. Ft DE Filter and if your pocketbook can afford it the DE4820 48 Sq. Ft. DE Filter would be ideal. The 48 Sq. Ft. has a very large filtering capacity meaning more time between cleanings and less stress on your pump, allowing your pump to last longer.

I am looking for the metal ring that secures the Hayward Filter to seal it. I believe it is a DE 2420 the belt has long bolt with to washers that slides in to one side and a spring. Can you help me.

Hi, Rex. Filters are sized based on the flow rate of the pump. You can use this filter if your pump's flow rate does not exceed 48 GPM.

Hi, Tom. A DE Filter will provide you with the highest quality of filtration available. I would recommend a DE or sand filter in this case.

I have a Hayward DE2400 maybe 25 years old. The shell is cracking and since they have discontinued making these parts Id like to replace with the DE2420. My existing Hayward SP0710XR50 Pro-Series Vari-Flo Backwash Valve Coupling is only one year old and so naturally I'd like to continue using it.
Can the DE2420 be purchased without the standard slide valve assembly?
Reply
Hi, DonP. The DE2420 filter does not come with a valve, you can use your existing SP0710XR50 valve.

How do I determine what filter grids to buy. I cant determine my size filter . It looks a lot like the 2420 but how can i find the size for sure. Don't want to order wrong grids.

When it comes time to replace the grids on your D.E. filter it may have been years. In that time key information like owner’s manuals could have been lost. The unit tag information may have become worn and unreadable, making it difficult to determine the size and type you need. here is a How to determine D.E. Filter Grid size.

Is this the entire filter assembly? including all parts and filters with the exception of the flow control valve? From the pictures it appears to have the cap, gauge, plug and center band. In the description it talks about the filter grid. Is that included?

Hi, Kevin. Yes, this includes the grids. It does not include the valve.

Hi Barry, You will require this grid pack listed here Hayward 24 DE Grid Pack if you are needing the complete drop in grid assembly then you will need this Hayward 24 Drop-in Grid Assembly

If the older version of the Hayward filters DE2400Z9 ? We moved into a house and trying to change the gauge and potentially the head to system it is older. Sorry for the weird question. Your website was the best comparison Ive seen yet.
Yes, that is the air relief on the earlier series of Hayward ProGrid Perm-A-Glass D.E. Filters. All parts to this filter are located on this page https://www.inyopools.com/pool_parts_hayward_pro_grid_perm_a_glass_de.aspx if you prefer you may upload an image of the label on the filter tank and we will help verify the model number.
