What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

No, these seals are sold separately and are dependent on the model name or number of the front pump housing that the motor bolts to.

Hi guys, I need to change my pump motor in the pool, this is the P2RA5D 120L, I would like to know if I am on the right page A.O. Smith 1/2 HP Square Flange 48Y Up Rate Motor - USQ1052. Will I also need this? http: //www.inyopools.com/Products/00500022000635.htm Tune Up Kit Sta-Rite Dura-Glas & Max-E-Glas Pump Pre 1998 - GOKIT6 or no...thanks
Being that the motor details are illegible I would recommend getting the part number that should be molded on the impeller to confirm the motor strength. You can always use the GOKIT54 on this series and just remove the copper cone in the seal plate.

Hello I have a Sta-Brite Max-E-Pro pump. Will this replacement pump work. I have attached reference pictures.
I have a STA-RITE motor 1/2 hp. The pump model number is P2RA5C-179L, MOTOR # IS C48H2PA 105C1. it's 115/230, 3450 RPM, S.F.1.3 Type B, Code K. It's an A.O Smith motor. I did not see anything that had a code K for a 1/2 hp motor. The label does not have a frame type on it. What do you recommend as a direct replacement for it? Would Century 1/2 HP Square Flange 48Y Up Rate Motor - USQ1052 work for this ?
Thank You
Hi Bill, yes, this is the correct single speed replacement motor for the motor included in your photo. You will also need a Sta-Rite DuraGlass seal kit when you replace your motor. Be sure to remove the cone insert from the seal plate if you have one. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

I need to replace pump motor DURA-GLAS II POOL PUMP marathon motor. model number P4R2D3-186L, MOTOR NUMBER AP100DH2, 3/4 HP. HOLES ON SQUARE MOUNTING PLATE ARE 5" CENTER TO CENTER

The correct motor replacement for model AP100DH2 is model Q3102.

This was the suggested replacement however, I have questions with respect to that.
1. My original pump motor has a frame Y56Y, this is a frame 48Y, are you sure this is compatible
2. The original pump has a start/run capacitor mounted on the top, this one does not.
Sorry for the followup but do not want to buy this if it is not a correct fit. my original ticket was 600614 that contains the pictures.

Hi John, the quoted motor is the most perfect one for your application. The 48 and 56 barrel sizes are interchangeable as long as the frame shape matches (which it does). Most 48 frame motors have a shim in them to add to the motor mount to help make up the difference in their slimmer size (it is about 1/2" difference on the mounting height). Our guide on What Does My Pump Motor’s Frame (FR) Rating Mean? will have more information, but the USQ1052 motor will be perfect for you. Be sure to get a new motor shaft seal for a leak-free installation.
