My bulbs burn out after a few hours of use. What would cause this?
Reply
My first guess would be to check the voltage. If you are getting anything more than 12v to the light, it will run hotter and burn out quicker.

Hi. Andrea, can you provide us with the specific model number of the pool light or the bulb specifications. The light label on the rear of the light should have the model number and the bulb often times have the specifications printed on the very top of them as well.

Is there a color changing LED 12 V option for replacing this light?

Hello, yes please see our 12 volt LED pool/spa light options here. Please see their product descriptions as they're only compatible with certain pool/spa light fixtures.

Our pool/spa and lighting was installed somewhere between 1978-1984 (Northern California, if that matters). Our spa has an 8 inch casing and the bulb and lens is shattered. I have no idea what the Voltage or Wattage is. Any suggestions on how to do determine? Is it safe to go with lower wattage? Is it more likely to be 12v vs 120v from that era?

Hi Eric, You would need to shut off power at the breaker to the pool light and then remove the pilot screw on the front ring of the light. You should then be able to bring the entire sealed fixture up onto your deck. On the back of the light where the cord attaches to the light housing there should be a product label with part #'s if you could take a photo of that label and send back to us then we can determine the proper replacement. To send photos simply click the reply link below and upload.

There isn't any labeling on it though is evident where there used to be one. There was a plastic pouch but the wording is very faded. I do see 791048. From research it appears to be the SS face Amerlite (https://www.inyopools.com/pool_parts_pentair_amerlite_pool_light.aspx). It appears to have been an incandescent bulb, but it is shattered and stuck in the socket. I don't see a transformer but the circuit breaker shows no rating on it. 120V 400W bulb seems like the right choice.

Hi Eric, Yes most likely the 400W 120V is what you will require.
