The plunger part of my backwash valve needs a new o-ring. Can I just purchase an o-ring? Also if that is not available, can I just purchase the plunger part without buying a whole new backwash valve.

Yes, you would be able to buy replacement O-rings. I have provided a link to the replacement parts we offer for the plunger valve assembly. Here

How do I determine if I have 2" or 11/2" valve?

Hi Matt, You would want to look at the pipe going into the valve, there should be some sort of digital writing or embossment which says either 1-1/2" or 2".

I have an Anthony 52" filter with the backwash valve. I purchased new o-rings and was able to install the three large round ones but cannot see how to install the small ring at the top ?? which without it water flows out the top when in the closed position and the filter pump running. Is there a special tool for installing the small o-ring ?

At this time we do not have stock we would be able to confirm with.

How do you replace the small 0-ring in the top plate on the Anthony Plunger 1 1/2" assembly V34-016

We unfortunately do not have any guides for this repair however I was able to locate a few youtube videos with some technicians repairing these slide valves.

You need to bang out the pins in the shaft with a hammer. Then the top housing comes right out. Be sure to have a couple of replacement pins in case you break one.
