Mary- You are correct,the hayward plug W/ O-ring SP1022c is going to be a standard thread.

My Hayward plug is stuck and can't loosen

It may be corroded stuck. Try tapping is slightly with a hammer. Then stick a heavy screwdriver between the two uprights on the plug and twist counterclockwise. It should twist off.
