Part # PL1650
In June of 2017 this drain plug was changed from a long style drain plug to a shorter style drain plug. The shorter style drain plug is a direct replacement for the long style drain plug. Below we show the old style longer drain plug along with the new style short drain plug.
How do you replace a hayward sand filter drain plug? Mine leaks & I can't get it out.

The removal of the drain plug should not be so tough. It is not a piece that gets removed weekly, so it may offer up some resistance. The top cap, like the plug should un-screw and the plug should slide out. If the tank is still completely full, there may be too much pressure. Try to remove some of the sand and try again, perhaps with a crescent wrench ( for leverage )

Drain plug was exactly like the original part, easy to install,works perfectly. I took old plug out replaced with the new Drain Plug assembly,tightened everything down,turned on pump, no leaks,no more problems. I would recommend part to anyone needing to replace the Drain Plug Assembly on a sand filter system.
