Occasionally the salt level on the Hayward Aqua Rite may not match the actual salt level of the pool. If the salt cell is clean but the salt reading is off, the Aqua Rite will need to be recalibrated. The following steps will provide a guide on how to recalibrate a Hayward Aqua Rite.

I have a T-Cell-15 and it matches my aqua rite setting. The problem I’m having is I just took a water sample to Leslie‘s pools and they indicated my salt level was 3100. My aqua right indicates my salt level is 4400. How do I reset my salt level from 4400 to 3100? I’ve already performed the reset salt level but all it does is reset my salt level to 4400 rather than the correct display of 3100.Reply

How old is the cell? If it is a few months old or longer, have you tried cleaning it? In the diagnostic menu, what are the amps and volts readings?Reply

Im having the same issue and my cell is brand new. Please helpReply

The method shown in the guide is the only way to reset the chlorine reading. I'll answer your question with the same question I asked above: What are the amps and volts readings in the diagnostic menu? Knowing this answer will help determine if there is a cell or board issue.Reply

Having issues with my Hayward Aqua Rite Salt generator. It is about 3 years old. The "check salt" and "inspect cell lights" are on. The salt cell is clean. The choline level in the pool is almost 0. The generator is set at 100%. I have a T9 cell. It is programed correctly in the unit. The generator is indicating a salt level of 2200. The pool place is showing 3800. Any ideas? Thanks.Reply

I'd check the amps and volts of the cell in the diagnostics menu to see if they are in the correct range for the TCELL9. But, the cell likely needs to be changed.Reply

Hi, I have a T-15 cell and it always starts flashing low salt and check cell. I check the salt and the cell and they are fine. The average salt level is usually okay, but the Instant Salt is always low. Even after recalibration. This is a brand new cell, purchased end of June 2021. We cleaned it and it's still having this issue. Can you help?Reply

Hi, I have a t-15 salt cell. It was new last year. Everything was running fine but recently the average salt reading shows low. When generating, the instant salt reading is 3100. This matches a test strip result. The instant reading stays at this level while the average reading goes down. I have reset the average reading a couple of times. Each time it operates as expected for a while but again shows a low average when I check on it a day later.Reply

First, have you cleaned the cell, yet? This usually fixes a cell issue.Reply
Peter Posted: 7/8/2021
After calibration the salt level is still showing lower than the actual salt level in the pool. Only after changing the cell type in the menu from T-9 to T-5 the salt level goes up from 2000 to 3000 and the cell works again.Reply
InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S. Posted: 7/23/2021
Which cell type do you have? Also, what is the actual salt level of your water? have you gotten it tested to verify the results?Reply
Ben Posted: 7/3/2021
My instant salt reading says 5200. I had it tested today at the pool store and it is actually 3200. I have tried to recalibrate my box using your steps and it will not go below 5200. I just recently replaced my salt cell. How do I get it come co.e down to the actual range?Reply

When you replaced the cell did you make sure the correct cell size is selected in the diagnostics menu?Reply

I replaced my salt cell and the reading is 4700 for salt levels and my test is at 3100 they told me to recalibrate the salt machine I followed all the steps and it’s not recalibrating. What do I need to do now ??Reply

No , I didn’t, how do I do that?Reply

Hi Replaced salt cell. It’s a T-15 and I matched the panel setting. The cell voltage looks right both when generating and not. The cell AMPERAGE shows zero about 1/2 the time even when the voltage indicates it generating AND the green ‘generating’ light is lit. Short circuit? Bad setup? Chlorine in the pool reads perfect and the ‘output %’ is set at 30. The salt ‘recalibration’ does not count down- it reads in the housings and MAYBE goes down 200, in 100 pt steps. The ‘instant salt’ almost always reads ZERO. Average salt reads 3200 consistently. Should I have any concerns about the weird amperage reads? Thank you for the help- this ‘blog’ or Q&A is super informative, I appreciate your time.Reply

We have a Blue Essence chlorine salt generator. Our salt readout shows 3800, when we do the FAS (DPD) salt test we get 4600. Does the generator not read that high?Reply
InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S. Posted: 8/25/2020
I believe that model's salinity range tops out at about 4000 or 4200 ppm, according to the paperwork i found for it.Reply
Jason Stanton Posted: 6/26/2020
I have followed the salt calibration steps...but the system will not start a countdown. It just sits at the incorrect reading.Reply

What are your cell's voltage and amperage as listed in the diagnostics menu?Reply

Did you set the cell type preset in the diagnostics menu to the new cell number?Reply
Joey Posted: 4/17/2020
My problem is the opposite. When opening, our pool guy dumped double the amount of salt reading 7400. I have been wasting water, and refilling. The salt cell has dropped to 4700, but just stays there. I tested with pool strips, and took to local pool store and their reading is 2900. I have recalibrated the unit a few times and still reading 4700. This is a brand new pool, and the salt system has only been used for 3 week.Reply

Because the service company dumped so much salt into the water, I would consider giving your cell 's blades a chemical soak. Even though the salt was in there for a short period, it may have clogged a sensor, which is leading to the erroneous salt level reading.Reply

Hello, my pool salt level is around 3,000. However, the display reads as 0. The salt cell is functional. What is the possible problem? Thanks,Reply

The first section of this guide lists a few items to check and remedies to your situation: Troubleshooting Your Hayward Aqua Rite System. The most likely issue are your cell needs cleaning or to be replaced. Hopefully, the solution for your problem is quick and cheap.Reply

Thanks for the reply. My Cell is functional. I also replaced a new Cell. But it is still not working. The display still reads 0 for salt level. Thanks!Reply
InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S. Posted: 4/15/2020
If the cell is functioning as normal and chlorinating the pool, then it doesn't seem like there is much of a problem. If the cell stops working, you can refer to the guide mentioned in the first response.Reply

Hi, the countdown only starts at 2800, but test is showing 3600, how do I set the correct number ? ThxReply
InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S. Posted: 2/25/2020
Give the cell an acid bath to clean the plates and censors of any scale that could be altering the test. If after the soak, the recalibration is not working, follow the troubleshooting steps in this guide to determine if the cell or display board needs replacing: Diagnosing and Troubleshooting Your Hayward Aqua Rite SystemReply

We just replaced our cell. It is set to t-15. Test strips show reading of 3100 but the reading on the screen is 1700 and the “check salt” and “inspect cell” lights are stating luminated. When I try to re-calibrate the number stays at zero for instant read. It does not ever begin a countdown.Reply

Hello Stacy - Press the diagnostic button on the control box until you see a T#. Does it display T15?Reply
Richard Posted: 6/17/2019
My salt cell is not matching the correct reading on the board so no chlorine is being made. However the pool is clean and clearReply
Anonymous Posted: 5/27/2019
If all the above has been done and salt cell is one year old & been cleaned. What should I do if it keeps reading “inspect cell”? It is generating!Reply
Paul Posted: 7/9/2019
This is just indicating it’s time to inspect the cell, not an error. Press and hold the diagnostic button for five seconds to turn it off. Paul-25 years exp as a tech.Reply

You may have a faulty cell; which means it warranty time. I would contact the star from whom you purchased the cell to get any order numbers and to let them know of the issue. Then I would give a call to Hayward to start the warranty process.Reply
