This guide provides an overview of a series of guides on how to set up diverter valves to control the flow of water from the different sources of water from the pool to the returns back to the pool. The series starts with the most basic configurations to the more complex. The series is broken down into 4 guides as described briefly below. To access each of these guides simply click on the key provided at the end of each description.

Bart - I would suggest inserting a two-way valve into your system so that you can restrict the amount of water going from the pump. You don't have to bypass the excess water back to the pool. Just make sure that you don't shut the water off completely.Reply

Hi,We have a simple existing waterfall feature in the yard of a home we just moved into. It has a pond basin (no aquatic life) There is a pool pump behind the waterfall (the label is faded and I do not know the horsepower). The basin hold between 100 and 200 gallons and is about the size of a soaking tub. We would like to reduce the water flow to a more pleasant and quieter waterfall. One option would be to replace the motor with a smaller hp. Could we also possibly reduce the flow by have a diverter valve installed to bypass the waterfall and direct some of the water back to the pump?

Cleaner stuck on drain -Generally there is a diverter valve that selects flow between the skimmers or main drains. But I don't think that is your problem. Many cleaners get hung up on the raised main drain. A product was designed to correct this problem. See "Polaris UniCover White". It helps the cleaner transition over the drain.
