I am considering changing my pool to salt water.
I have a variable speed pump that I purchased from you last year. I run this pump,24 hours a day with a very low flow for 12 hours overnight. Will I still be able to do this with a salt system?
Also, what is the difference between the regular and the heavy duty system besides the extra year warranty?
Thanks
Reply
Hi Clem, yes you will be able to do this with the set up you described. The heavy duty salt system has a 10,000 hour cell life, where the standard cell has a 7,000 hour life. The extra lifespan on the heavy duty salt cell is due to more Rithinium coating on the cell plates.

My pool is 24,000 galllons. Should I buy the 40,000 or 20,000 gallon system?
Reply
If your pocketbook can afford it I would suggest the 40,000 gallon unit as you can dial it down to a lower chlorine production and you will see much longer life out of your salt cell.

After you add the initial amount of salt, do you ever have to add salt again? Or do you periodically have to keep adding salt
I have a 27' round pool with half of it 6' deep.
Reply
Hi Garry, Salt does not evaporate out of the water so normally you are not adding much salt after the initial dosage. You would only need to add additional salt for some of the following reasons... water evaporation, party where kids are splashing water out of the pool, heavy rain, or if you have a leak in the pool. All of the above scenarios would mean that you would be adding fresh water back to the pool causing you to dilute the concentration of salt. Even in the scenarios I listed above it would be much less salt then the initial start up dosage.
Reply
Clarification to answer above: water evaporates; salt does not. Thus evaporation INCREASES the salt concentration in your pool. Adding fresh water to replace what's evaporated only restores the original salt concentration. There's no need to add salt in this case.
Reply
Hi, jstearns. The salt level will not be restored to its original level because the salt will become diluted when you add more water to the pool. The potency will be reduced.

If I buy this system and have problems with it who handles warranty issues??
Reply
Hi Don, the warranty on the Crystal Pure salt system is backed directly by Inyo Pools so you would deal directly with us, which is nice as sometimes when you get several parties involved the warranty process can take longer.

I have the 40k generator system. is there a dummy pipe for winter?? Does the Hayward dummy pipe fit as i see both body looks similar?
Reply
Hi, Yes we would suggest this Dummy Cell for Crystal Pure Salt System.

does the salt water needed to generate chlorine have any effects on my vinyl liner, like fading its print or making it brittle?
Reply
As long as the chlorine level in the water is kept at a moderate level and not too high then the liner should not wear quicker than average.

What is the daily electricity consumption in KWatt for the 40,000 gallon unit?
Reply
Hi Michel, When in use the salt cell is generating chlorine, the average amperage is between 21 and 27 amps, and the voltage typically falls between 2.5 and 7.8 volts. Wattage can be found by multiplying these two values, so on the low end you're looking at about 53 watts and on the high end you're looking at about 211 watts. These number vary because if you run the system at 10% chlorine output the wattage is lower vs. running the system at 100% chlorine output. Based on the #'s above if you ran the system 4 hours per day you are looking between .21 to .84 killowatt hours per day. I hope this helps.

Other than the warranty, what is the difference between the Crystal Pure Salt System and the Crystal Pure Heavy Duty Salt System? Thanks for your help.
Reply
The Heavy duty is the same system as the standard but with two main advantages...1. The warranty is 3 year on the Heavy Duty Vs. 2 years on the Standard 2. The cell life on the Heavy Duty is 10,000 hrs. Vs. 7,000 hrs. on the Standard. The extra lifespan on the heavy duty salt cell is due to more Ruthenium coating on the cell plates. Cell life works as follows, say you run your pump 8 hours per day and you set your Crystal Pure to 50% chlorine output then the cell will be running for 4 hrs. per day, thus using up 4 hrs. of cell life per day in this example.

Does the system include a flow switch? What is the required length from end to end for this system including the flow switch?
Reply
Hi, Andy. Yes, this system includes a flow switch. You will need at least 22" of horizontal run to install the cell and flow switch. You can also check out our How To Install a Crystal Pure Salt Chlorine Generator guide for the specifics.

Do you still have to monitor ph and alkalinity and do you have to add algecide and shock?
Reply
Hi, Michael. Yes, you will still need to monitor and maintain your pool's water chemistry. Algaecide and shock will be used on a minimal or as needed bases.

Hi, how much amperage does the 7707 cell drawn when producing? One of the above answered questions said 21-27 amps. Is that correct? Seems very high compares to a Hayward.
Reply
Ideally, these systems will draw approximately 8-10 AMPS.

Reading the fine print, I see the difference between the “standard” and “heavy duty” kit versions in the cell life being rated at 7,000 and 10,000 hours respectively. I have two questions:
1. How do these average life ratings compare to the “name brand” cells? Will I get more life out of the higher priced systems?
2. Are there a difference in the controllers of the Standard and Heavy duty kits? Can I buy a standard duty today then upgrade to the HD replacement cell later?
Reply
Hi, Mike. Most system cell life or expectancy will be rated at the 7,000 hours range. You will not get a higher lifespan going with a brand name system. Yes, you can upgrade the cell to the HD version by replacing just the cell.

I just purchased a Hayward VSP and wanted to know if this salt generator can be powered by the VSP or does it need its own power supply. I no longer have the manual timer as shown in the installation instructions.
Reply
No, the salt system will need its own dedicated circuit or will need to be wired to your main pool timer.

What’s the difference between the Hayward AQR 15 40000 gallon and the vs. the Pureline HD 40000
Reply
Hi, Jack. Aside from the brand name, there is no difference. The PureLine HD unit is comparable to the Hayward Long Life Cell.

I have 1 1/2” plumbing .. but the generator is 3”. Any issue installing the 40k Heavy Duty system where the system plumbing is 1 1/2”?
Reply
Hi, Mike. There is no issue with using this system with 1-1/2" plumbing.

What are the lengths on the salt cell cord and the flow switch cord? And do you have extensions available? My best mounting point for the control unit is where my pool timer is mounted, which is about 15' away from the pool. The only other option I have is to mount it on a 4'x6' that is 3' away from the pool, but that is not to code.
Reply
Hi, James. The cell cord is 12 ft and the flow switch cord is 15 ft.

I have a Pentair Intelligent 011018 And a Quad De 100 filter. Can i easily integrate this system with my pentair pump? Is there any reason I should stick with Pentair? Does this tell me when it needs to be cleaned or do I just clean it every couple of months and assume all is well?
Reply
Hi. This system can be installed and easily integrated into your system. It will indicate when the cell will need to be cleaned.

I have a 30 year old DoughBuy above ground pool. 28 foot. Structure is still in good condition. Obviously, the liner has been replaced many times. I am concerned about changing over to a salt system about whether splash and incidental exposure to salt will accelerate corrosion of structure. What if my liner develops a slow leak and the salt water seeps to the structure? Should I be concerned about salt water corrosion or is it no worse than a chlorine system?
Reply
Hello, Salt water is very corrosive, if you have an above ground pool with steel parts, we do not recommend changing over to salt. Please read the article below http://www.inyopools.com/Blog/will-a-salt-chlorine-generator-rust-my-above-ground-pool/

Is there an installation video out there?
Is there a recommended distance for any 90's or 45's from the generator or flow meter?
Reply
Hi Cody, We have a Plumbing Video for the AquaRite which would be the same as the Crystal Pure. We do have Wiring Videos for the Crystal Pure which you may find helpful. There is no specific recommendations on the 45's or 90's but the fewer the better, also if you can use two 45's instead of one 90 this will help reduce head pressure. We have a Video on How Fix Common Pool Plumbing Mistakes which goes into best practices about the use of 45's and 90's you should find that video helpful.

what is the shipping weight for the PL-7707 salt system? We are looking into having it sent to our son and then he can send to us in the US Virgin Islands...
Reply
Hi, Grace. The shipping weight is approximately 15 lbs.

you wouldn't consider shipping it to me for less than the $200+ quoted as "global"? we are the US Virgin Islands and all US postal rates apply.
Reply
Grace, This will have to be shipped UPS Worldwide for insurance purposes.

I just installed and powered this system on briefly yesterday and realized that I have no way to control power to it apart from a manual switch. My pump is a variable speed and handles turning itself on and off daily. Is it ok to leave this system on 24/7 and just let the flow switch control whether it is producing chlorine? Or should I look into somehow powering it off when the pump is off?
Reply
Hi Ed, It is fine to have the power supply on 24/7 as the system will only generate chlorine when the flow switch is engaged. This is the exact way I have my Crystal Pure Salt System installed and have had no issues.

I am wanting to switch over to a salt system this summer, but I'm wondering how I should go about doing it. My pool has been sitting all winter it's super green. Should I start it up with chlorine and get all of the chemicals in specs and then switch over to salt or would it be ok start it up for the season with the super chlorination mode with this salt system?
Reply
Hi Brian, I would start up your pool with the normal process outlined with the salt system but also supplement the startup with additional shock or liquid chlorine as needed during the startup process as this additional chlorine will clear your green pool quicker. We have an article on How to Convert to a Salt Pool as well as How to Clear a Green Pool which you may find helpful. I would use a combination of the two approaches.

I have a Biogard Mineral Springs Salt Sanitizer panel (burn up @ end of last year) with Hayward Tcell940. Is the Pureline Heavy Duty PL7707 direct replacement? I want to be able to put the new cell in without any plumbing work. I have a Salt Water plaster pool that is 28,000 that I use Biogard Mineral Springs. Thank You
Reply
Hi Jay, Yes this is a direct replacement for the Biogard Mineral Springs Salt Sanitizer which means no re-plumbing is required.

How long is the chord from the Pureline in-line chlorinator? I need to see if chord from chlorinator will reach my shed/power box. If not, can an extension be applied? Thanks, paul
Reply
Hi Paul, The cell cable that runs from the cell back the power supply is 15', there is also a cable from the flow switch which is also 15' and that also runs back to the power supply. If you are wiring the power supply 115V then you can wire a 115V cord off of the power supply to plug into a standard outlet. We carry this 6' Cord with 3 Prong Plug which would get you 6' closer to cell.

How much water pressure is the threaded collars rated for?
The reason I’m asking is because the collar on the outlet side of my 2 month old salt chlorinator shot off splitting the pipe open, when I start up the pump which purge at max flow (3500 rpm 3hp Intelliflow) for 5-8 sec before throttling down to 2200 rpm, and bypassing my solar heater, which normally is on all the time.
The pressure on the filter reaches 45 psi during the purge.
Hi, Jannik. The PSI rating for the collar is 50 PSI.

My salt cell control panel displays low salt warnings when my pump shuts down every night. It does not correct itself when the pump comes back on the next morning. This is what it displays. It just started doing this the past 3 weeks. I've had to flip the switch to OFF and then to AUTO to correct it. What's going on with this thing? I just bought this SCG a few months ago. I checked the cell and it looks fine and my salt level is around 3300.
Hi, Brian. If the No Flow light does not come on when the pump is off, the issue could be the Main PCB.
Reply
Mine just started doing the EXACT same thing. How did you resolve this issue?
Reply
Hi Brian, how was this issue resolved? I am having the same exact problem. My unit is almost exactly 1 year old. Thank you.

It is best to complete troubleshooting with the system. Please change the setting on the dial to 100% and toggle up to super chlorinate/boost, push the system status or diagnostic button, and provide the 1-9 readouts from the display in the sequence you see them and provide them. I prefer to see a water test by a local pool store if possible, one that provides the full panel readings for water chemistry too.
