i have this Hayward filter system. it is inside a building and i want to extend a drain pipe to the outside of the building. i know that i need to have a shutoff valve inline, but do they have a drain kit of some sort to do this, or do i make it myself.

Unfortunately, there is no drain kit for this filter. Yo would need to build it yourself.

Will this cap fit my Hayward Pro Series Sand Filter Model # S 166T?
It is 1.5 inches at the outlet end.

Hi, Brendan. This Drain Cap Assy will fit the S166T unit if it was manufactured after 2006.

I have a S244T2. Will this drain plug fit?

Hello,
Will this drain cap fit an S270T Pro Series Sand Filter? If so, I've heard of too many reviews stating that the new cap leaked. In fact, I bought the entire set up and I don't think the original cap ever fit right; I think I may have overtightened and so t cracked. Should I have used plumbers tape? Seems other owners are recommending..

Hi Raul, these can be tricky to get on if the sand is not completely cleaned off of the sealing and threaded surfaces. This is the correct drain plug for filters made after 2006; older (pre-2006) filters used this Cap & Gasket Kit - SX180HG.

How does the gasket install? From inside the filter tank and when the sand is removed? I left the cap off one winter season and taped over the drain hole and apparently an animal chewed on the drain threads such that I now get a leak between the cap and the drain screen threads. This may be what I need to stop the leak.

Hi Ron, the gasket is flat and installs on the inside of the cap. It seals on the outer surface of the drain, so chewed threads may not be an issue, but it may not seal if the flat sealing surface on the filter drain was chewed up.
