how can you tell which finger tubings are bad and which ones are not?

Hi, Larry. Visual inspection of each of the tube is the only way. If there any holes, tears or broken tubes then you'll need to replace them. I would recommend replacing the entire assembly if they're more than years old.

I am cleaning my filter to put it away for winter and I noticed some of the plastic inserts in the flex tubes are broken. can I assemble them without the inserts or can I purchase the plastic insert separately?

These tubes are sold as an assembly.

Can I buy the whole assembly? All my tubes are plugged and/or torn. More than 10 years old. I would like to replace the entire tube assembly. Thanks

Depending on the unit you can and we can provide the part number. Can you tell us which model filter you have and we can look into it for you?

Hi, thanks for the quick response. It's a Hayward DE Filter, Model No. EC-50C. I'm also new to this...after doing a cleaning (opening drain valve and let dirty water escape) should I be adding more DE when turning back on? Thank you

I dont believe you need a new nest. You should give them an acid bath. Please see page 5 https://hayward-pool-assets.com/assets/documents/pools/pdf/manuals/Perflex-EC40AC.pdf?fromCDN=true

Have you compared the price of replacing entire filter? Usually it is cheaper to replace the filter and at 10 years old- ECX125175 Flex Tube NEST
